How is it on the performance side? I once tried the Overhaul; it made the game run at horrid, unplayable framerates.

Yeah, all discussion of design versus improvement aside the rehaul tends to run like shit in my experience. It's hard for me to give up a basic MGE install that extends the draw distance and still runs at 60fps.

I have a pretty good computer. No slow-downs. I often experience one or two crashes during a game session. Usually in area transitions. I think that's a standard Morrowind-on-newer-computers issue, though.

I have a pretty damn good gaming PC and the overhaul, when paired with MGE's distant land, runs like ass.

maybe it's not as good as you think.
or maybe you're doing some unnecessarily enhanced modding.
I think it's perfectly fine the way I modded it.

It's thoroughly modern and runs every new game great. I'm sure I could have tweaked it to run better but the point is I would want a locked 60fps. Not sure how attainable that is, didn't seem easy to achieve at the time.

It's all kind of irrelevant 'cause I said "damn that's ugly" and uninstalled anyway.

I approve of the overhaul, pick and choose what you think fits. Ran pretty badly on my previous computer but this one doesn't even pay attention.

It's fine if you don't have a toaster for a computer.
I have a decent computer, even fiddling with various settings won't really help, just different shades of horrid. I put it down to the Bethesda programming brilliance.

Guys, when discussing performance, you should probably post your PC specs (at least CPU+GPU) and the resolution you're running at. Saying "I have a good PC" doesn't really mean anything - what I consider "good" someone else might consider only "decent", 1080p requires less resources than something like 2560*1600, etc.

Max settings at 1920x1080

-i5 3470 CPU with a Turbo setting of 4.2 (because it's 'locked' the highest is supposed to be 4.0, but messing with the motherboard a tiny bit nets some gains, never been anything but stable)
-Two 6850s in Crossfire
-12 Gigs ram
-10,000 rpm boot drive (won't trust SSDs for probably another couple years)

Think I've gotten tired of Morrowind again. Playing with GCD leveling mod even though I'm only level 12ish I was able to kill a Golden Saint in about ten seconds without much trouble. Of course... it does help I stumbled across that Umbra guy and took his sword.

I guess playing Morrowind for the fights will never yield any overly satisfactory results, mods or no mods.

Not sure whether gimping your character helps. I did that unintentionally during my first playthrough with a Dunmer pure mage, and he was still struggling till level 18 or 20 or so.

Oh yeah, the early hours of playing a Mage...feels like you're made of tissue paper. And then you miss with a fireball from the last magicka in reserve, and watch the bandit loaded for bear storming forward. FML.

Ah, but then you just cast invisibility and backstab the fucker with your bound daedric Murderizer. :smug:

Why not create a custom spell that drains the bandit's Willpower, Strength, Intelligence, Luck, Agility and College Fund, makes him 137% weak against every kind of damage, and gives him AIDS for 2 seconds instead of casting a fireball? Are you stupid?

Always been my hang up about Morrowind -- even without 'exploiting' things eventually the challenge just stops. It's still fun to explore but without the risk the rewards feel hollow. My interest always wanes before I do Bloodmoon/Tribunal content.

Overhaul runs like ass but it's not intolerable if you tweak the settings just right. The first time I played Morrowind was on a Windows 98 computer at 640x480 and I could barely get 20 fps so that kind of thing doesn't really bother me anymore.

No worries, if you do Tribunal and Bloodmoon content, the rape will return. Not always in a good way, but it will be there.

People shitting on Morrowind's combat don't appreciate classic combat ratings and RNG fun.
Last night I was on 2 millimeters of health up against some Daedra master-fucker at half HP. I had no potions, and my Sanctuary daily spell was on cooldown. I thought I was dead for sure, but I hit 3 heavy slashes with my sword, and he got down to a centimeter of health. For a minute, we were both just failing our weapons at each other, and I'm like "FUCKING HIT OH MY GOD." But he hit me... BLOCK! "YES NOW HIT HIM AAAAH" --- TURBOHIT, knocking him down on all four like a bitch leaving him with only a sliver of HP. So I just wildly flailed at him with instant-attacks and managed to kill him.
That shit was more exciting than any fucking Skyrim dragon or Oblivion shit.

I love Morrowind's stat-based combat. I also like good skill-based combat. Each have their appeal. I tire of this debate where we act like one is bad objectively.
