I would back another of their kickstartesrs but only if Infinitron lets me write the review.

Do you need an authorization to post a review ? I thought being committed to write it would grant the access...

New Vegas shipped with a lot of bugs so it's more like a transitional game before the curb-our-ambitions Obsidian that truly started with Dungeon Siege III.

What would you say was the major lesson you took away after the development of FNV to apply (if possible) to future projects at Obsidian? Something you guys really got right, or wrong, for instance?
Use less complex scripting in quest scenarios and stage the development of quests in a more progressive fashion. I.e. start by implementing the A-priority, bare-bones, 100% solid scenario for everything first. Only after everything is in at A-priority does mad experimentation begin. The advantage to this is that if your mad experiments turn out to be completely idiotic experiments, you still have an A-priority path that, if arguably a little bland, still works as designed and isn't going to blow up in the player's face.

Starting with a scenario that is a complex Fabergé egg sets up a difficult task. If anything goes wrong, you're stuck with a non-functional scenario that's reliant on something that you can't immediately resolve. Both backing up or pushing forward can result in more problems and potentially wasted time. And if it somehow magically gets working, you really won't know how robust it is until it's tested thoroughly, which may be months away.

Everyone thought Josh would end fun through mechanics, but it was making sure they release working games instead.

R.I.P. fun.

Don't keep your hopes up. Even Tim Cain makes jokes about turn-based knowing it'll never happen.

But oh man would I pledge instantly.

With this latest KickStarter Fargo has all but admitted that the Big Four Kickstarter AA RPG developers -- inXile, Larian, Obsidian and Harebrained -- have signed a nonaggression pact and have no intention of trying to steal market share from each other.

So by fiat that makes Larian the turn-based developer. HBS won't do it unless it is another Shadowruns expansion/sequel, instead trying to capture market share from From Software. Obsidian is going after that sweet Bioware money while attempting to maintain normal relations with the AAA publisher world (Pathfinder is almost surely going to become a console RPG). inXile is making all the old games we never got and if anything is going to take a piece out of that Besthesda cash pile.

Put me in a bit of spot. It was in what might have been some obscure interview/social media thing and I'm not sure I can find the message in a realistic amount of time. Also has been spread out over several slightly distinct messages.

The effect was that he disparaged the idea they (referring to KickStarter developers) needed to compete with each other, noting that they aggressively supported each other's campaigns in social media and were often talking to each other on telephones.

"Nonaggression pact" was of course poetic license.

And they all will make Action RPGs with a white haired guy because of sales.

Then the war begins.

Who's Stalin and who's Hitler in this scenario?

Larian is Hitler, expanding fast and grabbing as much land and resources as it can. Early successes in war. inXile made an accommodation with them, so that makes them Stalin.

"Nonaggression pact" was of course poetic license.

Who's Stalin and who's Hitler in this scenario?
More importantly, who's Poland?

Harebrained Schemes. Least established and most vulnerable. Not to mention that they are also making third person action RPGs now apparently.

Note - Obsidian is the U.S./UK.

 You got me on this one. (Why did I take the Frederick's avatar, oh my)

And it seems that noone understood my polish-white-guy's pun. I miserabily failed. Oh well.

curb-our-ambitions Obsidian
That's them alright. :decline:

If they don't try, I see no reason to support them.

The wise move would be to make shorter games, cut the filler, and keep the ambition. Who needs 40h of stretched shit when you can have 15-20h of quality?

I miss Ziets, MotB was Obsidians highpoint. Sure he's doing the lords work for Torment, but eh. The evil path in PoE was totally underwhelming compared to MotB.
New Vegas was a much better game then MoTB.

Tim created the weakest parts of PoE
We have no idea what he created, that later got rejected by the anti-christ of fun. For instance, Tim Cain said there would be low-int dialogues in the early stages of development. That would've been fun, so it didn't make it in.
