What game are you wasting time on?

I tried to play Metro Exodus. This game has some potential, but it's just cut scene after cut scene and QTE here and there! I was hoping for Stalker 1.5, and I got a story shooter.

Not for me...

Yeah, i wouldn't go into Metro expecting Stalker. These games are incredibly atmospheric, but they are as linear as they come and mostly just on rails story shooters. Metro Exodus allows more freedom with open maps, but it mixes them with railroaded story missions.

If you want another Vatnik game somewhat free, I guess there is Atomic Heart, but still it's on rail story shooter.

I just want a decent map (or maps, it doesn't have to be open world), some nice guns and enemies to kill, without stupid cut-scenes every 5 minutes. I'm here to play, not to watch FFS!

Atomic heart has the advantage of having ... *sweating* ... interesting cutscenes. :shredder:

Those Russians damn know what the male audience wants.

Way too linear and way too many cutscenes.
STALKER is just plain better, to be honest.

Killing zombies in Dead Island 2.
Better go with Dying Light, you Poles did the best zombie games.
I completed most Techland zombiekilling games: Dead Island, Dead Island: Riptide and Dying Light. Wanted to pick up Dying Light 2, but since Techland was bought out by the Chinks I decided to check what the Brits managed to come up with.

So far its enjoyable. Except for the Haus dlc which was a slog.

What's the best way to play it nowadays? Anomaly?
Vanilla
I already played vanilla a couple of times. SoC and CoP. Clear Sky just didn't work with all the bugs. There's anomaly, anomaly redux and gamma. Gamma is about crafting the guns and is more grindy, as I understand?
Gamma is survival autism at its finest, Anomaly is uninteresting chore. Didn't play Anomaly redux.

There might be some cool mods out there, but I think that far too many focus on adding ridiculous amounts of new weapons that do not fit at all into the world and setting of the Zone.
That and trying to enhance the graphics to ultra realistic levels that eventually breaks the original tone of the game.

Not surprised. I remember in some of Thief's texture packs dude changed one of the portraits to his girlfriend.

Some of the guys around here might be able to help you better than I can in that regard.
I think Vanilla is the best experience and the best way to play it.
I would put something to remove head banging every step. But overall that's it.

Unfortunately, the first Stalker I've ever played was Call of Prypiat and it's hard for me to get into SotC, mostly due to UI. Still, I managed to finish SotC, which is indeed the peak of this series.

Dying Light 1 during night time put many horror games to shame, and it's one of the most unforgiving experience with zombies.

I'm trying Ghost of Tsushima. I can barely run it and its a bit boring so far, still at the prologue/ start of the game.

Recently went through Black Souls & Black Souls II, both absolute MASTERPIECES and the only soulslikes worth caring about. Incredible story & well-researched lore (based on an actually in-depth foundation in the extended Cthulhu mythos and gnostic theology combined with victorian literature references, real life serial killer trivia etc.), great writing, memorable characters, engaging and incredibly well-designed strategic combat (you can 100% complete both games on level 1 as long as you know what you're doing and apply the right strategy to each enemy), most importantly especially Black Souls II is really vast and even after completing it (including the DLCs) and getting the true ending after a few NGs I've still only seen maybe 80% of the game's content. And the way this stellar achievement of game design gatekeeps out normies by disguising itself as a "rpg maker dark souls porn parody / loli rape simulator" is just the cherry on top.

I'm just playing this stuff. As you can clearly see, US is in war already and I'm still trying to get Rostov and other Ukrainian cities. NAZI Germany doesn't have economy to have that many units. That front line is big.

What do you consider to be the "true" ending? Both endings end up continuing the cycle for DS1. Arguably it took the third game to finally hash out a conclusive end to the trilogy in the form of the Lord of hollows ending.

Black souls is Japanese RPG maker game. It's kinda isometric. Also sex scenes. And rape.

That's a DS2 retcon. Your choices at the end of DS1 are to propagate the age of fire or plunge the world into an age of darkness. It is implied that linking the fire is a temporary measure and so ages of fire are cyclical in nature with rekindling leading inevitably to decline, but that's not the case for the dark ending. That's a wipe the slate clean moment, a rejection of cycles. No one can know what plunging the world into darkness will entail, but at least it isn't an endless repetition of decay. It's also clear that Gwyn was the one to usher in the age of fire, so any propagation of such would be started by the player character, not continued.

Then the second game cheapened everything with its "this has all happened a gazillion times, you're not special" bullshit.
