That was embarassing to watch. Also, bolters are not submachine guns. They are rocket launchers.

Ever heard of these? some interesting reading...it seems the bolter was a real weapon. Albeit i don't think they got around to making AP-HE ammo for it.

Yeah, I have. The difference between that and a bolter is that a bolt is fired from a cartridge like a normal gun so that it has a high muzzle velocity, then the rocket bit kicks in, so it's a two stage weapon.

It's basically a rapid fire recoiling rpg in a very small calibur. It's probably possible to make, just not very practicle compared to regular bullets with the small projectile size.

WH40K games where you play a lonewolf completely go against what makes WH40K so awesome.

Theres plenty of potential for a solo individual to make a difference, space hulk and inquisitor come to mind. There is even a varient of wh40k rules written for small unit battles, pitting special forces type units vs goons.

I imagine any title based on 40k these days will have to be a 'safe' title as after the success of dawn of war, I imagine getting the licence would be pretty expensive.

But they are still involved in unit tactics. When was the last time you played a game of WH40K and came to the table with one unit?

Get with the damn program.

Last time I checked, Mephiston sends entire units fleeing without breaking a sweat. And fluffwise Space Marines... Well... Kick ridiculous quantities of ass as individuals.

But you are right. The presence of allied troops is a MUST for the atmosphere.

Now the company is again dipping into Games Workshop's gleefully violent and chaotic Warhammer 40,000 universe and preparing something new, this time only for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Utilizing a proprietary engine and being built by a new console-focused team, Relic is busy putting together Space Marine, a third-person action-RPG. After seeing some early footage, it looks as though it's going to be as bloody as Warhammer 40K fans might expect, filled with large-scale battles, brutal weaponry, and frantic fighting.

Looks fairly badass, kinda reminds me of Too Human for some reason. I'm glad ARPGs are finally starting to move away from the traditional isometric viewpoint, that shit was getting tired.

Bah, Warhammer is so kitsch.. used to like them when i was younger, but those were the dark times. That game could be nice if it's baldurs gate dark alliance type of game because PS3 lacks those kinds of games (atleast good ones). Trailer didn't seem too promising, but then again trailers usualy are crap.

I've actually had a few games of 40k lately with my old figs from when I was a teenager... game is pretty fun.

Space Marine will probably suck, but be pretty while it does it.

Trailer is just lame, I bet it makes game look twice more cool & dynamic then in fact it will be. Plus that epic, heart gripping, lotr style music :?

But that's the best part, we enjoy it ironically! It's like those hipsters who 'enjoy' crappy music/art/films. We can be cool just like them!

Point there, but then again cold capitalists ruling Games Workshop take that coolness away. I mean when i was stupid enough playing wh40k (crappy game btw.) they were constantly raising prices and they actualy boasted to potential investors how the customers were stupid enough to pay ridiculous price for piece of plastic and other stuff :D. I think the pricing policy mighth have backfired now, but i'm not sure.

Calling it Space Marine was a bad idea. That links it in my mind with Fire Warrior.

I could be convinced to be excited, but not by what they're showing here... It'd be a better concept as a straight-up brawler, or at least more fun. Hell, I'd suggest doing it as an FPS if there wasn't such a dependency on closing with the enemy and entering melee combat.

Maybe a squad-based FPS focusing on an Imperial Guard commando unit? Success isn't measured by how many objectives you complete but by how long you manage to stay alive in an intensely hostile environment where every last living (or dead, or robot) thing is bigger and badder and tougher than you.
