I can't figure out which stats to pick. I'm making an Engineer with specialization in bots... But which weapon to choose..? Hmm.

A good problem to have in a game like this -- no clear cut choices. Lots of ways you can build the characters.

The only not obvious choice is how good crit is due to how armor works. 40dmg - 60 dmg - 500 crit ftw...

A good problem to have in a game like this -- no clear cut choices. Lots of ways you can build the characters.

Here's an even better problem which shows the game's great character system:

I settled on two-handed weapons. I planned my build until level 33 in the following manner:

9 points in Healing Bot
9 points in Heavy Lifting
5 points in Gunbot
5 points in Ember Hammer
5 points in Shock Grenade

So here's my issue:

Shock Grenade doesn't deal weapon damage
Coup De Grace is required for this build to really shine

I'm thinking Tremor might make sense instead of Shock Grenade, but Tremor says "Physical Damage taken increased by 10% for 10 seconds." Is that you or the mobs? Because I don't think this build will have enough HP to withstand additional punishment.

If it refers to the mobs, I think Tremor might be the way to go, but that just makes Coup De Grace even more necessary. Also, can you crit with "spell attacks" like Ember Hammer?

Anyway, it's been a long time since a fucking action game made me think about character customization like this. I love it. And don't get me started on where that build should put its stat points.

Played it for a bit, seems like they followed the #1 rule of successful skill-based H&S: maximum of conflicting skills.
Trash atmosphere, trash gfx, trash sound, at the core is the combat & skill system and if there are excluding skills you automotically have a reason to play again.
Simple but effective.
To the game: Again, simple&effective. At the various diff. levels there is enough challenge to overcome for almost all kinds of gamers, gfx are actually pretty neat, music too. While it doesn't reach Diablo 1 in terms of "atmosphere" it certainly delivers in loot/stat-whoring.

anyways it's juts a H&S, I am drunk so hf!

So far my Veteran lvl 37 Cannon Engineer build is, mistakes included:

Stats
Str and Vit - Who needs crits?

Actives
Overload Cannon (RMB) - Way better than the lvl 35 skill Cannon Barrage from the first skill point.
Healing Turret (1) - Due to level cap it loses a bit of punch by level 35+ but still relevant.
Shooting Turret (4) - Win button. Pop it and solves any encounter. Pop it twice for bosses.
Armor Overload (2) - Just got this because I had 8 spare points. Gameplay changer. Pop it, OLOLOLOL in. Pop again on cooldown.
Rocket Boost (3) - Got it as a 1-point wonder panic button. It doesn't work and the damage is shit. Skip.
Cannot Barrage (RMB alt) - I'm still in lvl 4 but so far very very very lackluster. Damage output is shit, even with 5 minions you're sitting duck while being hit. May work better in a focus build :/

Passives
Aegis - Lifesaver, got 9 points for a 10% and it's saved my ass countless times.
Heavy Lifting - I didn't notice it worked for cannons too until level 30. I spent 5 points on it but haven't noticed much improvement from the base 30% stun.
Coup de Grace - Go all in or don't, so I didn't.

Spells
Healing 3 - Nice
Summon Imp - I always forget about this one.

Pet spells
Summon Imp I
Summon Imp II
Summon Imp III
Summon Skeleton II

Weapon
Your cannon needs mana steal and - armor on hit. Cycle is RMB-RMB-RMB-LMB-RMB-LMB so you can use Overload Cannon as often as you can. Pop Overload when needed.

You mean Storm Burst? Aw man, I was planning to go deep into that shit with my 2-handed build. It doesn't have to deal much damage, honestly, just work as a panic button that recharges your mana to boot.

The levels seem kinda...... smaller than Torchlight? I'm only level 6 but they do seem a LOT smaller. They may get more lengthy later on though.
The dungeon levels are smaller but there is more variety overall. I think they still have endless dungeons if you want them.

Hmm, apparantly it's not down, it's just full so you have to reconnect a bunch of times until you get in.

Yeah I'm now level 16 and there are definitely larger areas.

Have really like the variation of areas.

Played a bit of co-op with a bro as a tank-gineer on elite... and tanking seems pointless at that difficulty. You're probably better off just kiting stuff. I might give elite a rest because while it is challenging it's also quite frustrating. Think I'd rather just veg out on veteran and collect the loots!

Codex 2016 - The Age of Grimoire Enjoy the Revolution! Another revolution around the sun that is.
I'm playing engineer (is everyone?) and am at level 15... I can't stop playing until I get to the sentry guns at level 21. There is absolutely no way they can live up to my expectations, but I have visions of a TF2 style combat.

I'm doing a cannon engineer and probably gonna end up like Pakoito. Going to grab as many minion abilities as I can while thumping enemies with AOE cannon blasts. Was going well until I started getting to snowy areas and yeti wizards give me guff. Looking forward to getting access to sentry bot.

You mean Storm Burst? Aw man, I was planning to go deep into that shit with my 2-handed build. It doesn't have to deal much damage, honestly, just work as a panic button that recharges your mana to boot.
It has four problems that each makes it useless:
0.- All skills in TL2, unlike Dota, are single click. What this means is you travel towards the mouse direction. If you are clicking at the enemy (and your netbook runs the game at 15fps) is not uncommon to end up running towards him.
1.- Distance is very small, so it doesn't count as a blink and getting out of a clutch is not probable.
2.- It has a small delay after finishing, combine with 1 to make it not a runaway skill either.
3.- If aimed incorrectly, you take the enemies with you, no stun to them. O>-@--- ends up like ----O@

Aegis vs Overload
In retrospective, at lower levels Aegis is better than Overload because of no mana cost and lack of access to manasteal weapons. Midgame you'll be popping Overload on cooldown and relying on Aegis just in crunch situations.

It's a little annoying always being 2-3 levels behind the dungeons on Elite... Even when I'm doing optional bullshit as well.
Takes a very long time to clear a big room. Bosses has to be kited almost through the entire dungeon.

Just got through Grell on veteran after playing Elite exclusively. It's miles easier. I probably could have done hardcore because so far I only died once at the start when I wasn't paying attention. What's even funnier is I'm playing Berserker with just passive skills -- haven't taken any active ones yet. I just walk up to shit and punch it to death. Just stood by Grell and kept beating on him. I can't imagine what normal and easy are like.

When I go back to elite I wouldn't even bother trying with a melee class. Probably go with a shadow/summoner Outlander. I basically cheesed winning Hardcore Very Hard in TL1 by going summoner alchemist -- just stood back while all my stuff did the killing.

yeti wizards

Those things are fucking retarded with the frost circle and whirlwinds. That's pretty much where I hit the wall on elite: the ice cave with the Alchemist's journal in it. Those guys plus the chargers plus the fucking swarming bats.

Compared to Diablo 3

Because it's what Diablo 3 is not - a sequel to Diablo 2

ZOMG you even have 3 skill trees where you can make choices and you can't unlock everything.... in a linear fashion!

You can even pick 4 stats which is zero times more than Diablo 3 - because when you multiply by zero you get zero.

Not only that but there is no health regen and even pots heal you slowly. And yeah - I even have to use them instead of dick-measuring "who collected more hundreds of HP pots"

Pets are p. cool too. Can learn spells, can be buffed or turned into monsters with special abilities for the duration of the buff.

And it has 6 player co-op and LAN and no error 37!
In my brief, so far, playthrough of T2 I thought that it was kinda sucking donkey ballz v. T1... IMNHO...

[EDIT]
I mean as far as actually playing, etc. but hey to each his own...
[/EDIT]

Do you get less XP from Elite? I played a bit on Veteran and was owning shit hard and out leveled everything by far, but then we started to play on Elite with my friends and now everything caught up to us on levels. Eh, shit isn't that fun on Elite anyway. Terrible HP bloat for everything.

I clear the big area first and I always end up in dungeons on the highest level specified for it or higher. Usually last one I'm 2-3 levels higher but end up just on par level wise for next big area so I guess it's intended.
