I am actually really disappointed. I was expecting something like Uncharted, but with focus on exploration and survival instead of cover based shooting. Unfortunately it is vastly inferior to Uncharted so far. Uncharted was paced, scripted and staged like an actual movie, you actually felt like your are playing interactive Indiana Jones-style film. Thats why i tolerated all it's next gen bullshit and consider it "good for what it is". TR completely fails in this regard, most of the time it feels like a series of awkward cutscenes, while lack of control and constant QTE's are almost unbearable.

I am disappointed by the game as well. I haven't killed so many people since Max Payne 3, ffs. The beginning was not bad when you only had a bow and had to kill wolves with it, but it got downhill from there when it became a popamole cover shooter. The enemies come in hordes and die over and over again. The tedious fights are sometimes interrupted by terrible QTEs, some of which took me about 10 or probably more attempts to complete because they were too lazy to write which buttons you actually have to press.

The graphics are nice and I liked some of the climbing, but there is no exploration, at least at the about 30% I have completed so far. I didn't bother with updating weapons and leveling up as the game is too easy even on hard. There is an abundance of ammunition and too any boring, repetitive enemies.

Does it get better at any point or it stays the same? I hate killing literary hundreds of people.

I actually read someplace that the game is structured like a "Metroidvania"

I'm a sucker for those types of games. So if true, I'd be able to look past the Cinematic/Emotionally Engaging faggotry.

I was struck by how deeply misandric this game is. A hot, innocent young girl killing hundreds of nasty 40 year old men who all want to rape and kill her.

Where are all the women on the island? Why do all the men look and act like crazed hobos?

I woudn't hold my breath to game journo retarded articles discussing misandric connotations in these games. But that's how nature rolls

The plot isn't really complex, don't tell me you're that dumb. Everything is explained, and given out on a silver plate.

Anyway, i'll give you a hint. Nobody can get off that damn island, and there's plenty of weird shit going on there to question one's sanity.

But that would mean Lara would have to kill women enemies too, and that would be unacceptable encouragement of violence against women.

Precisely. Which makes it all the more likely that the cultists would want to spare at least some female shipwreck survivors and try and indoctrinate them, either for mere relief of sexual needs or to try and repopulate the island/Yamatai society. Not to mention they would then have a greater pool of female candidates to draw upon for their rituals. They've been there for ~30 years after all, and yet there are no women there - even as slaves? That makes no sense.

I'm not expecting it, merely pointing out one of the cavernous plot holes.

If no one can leave the island how come there are so many guns, bullets etc? And those enormous metal structures-who built them, were did they get so much iron from? It should have been transported by ships, but how when they can\'t leave the island? Do they have factories or something? Also, why not send more distress signals, try to get more attention to the island? Making a big island with enormous structures and a great supply of ammunition and weapons when no one can leave it is retarded. They should have thought of a more believable story, like not being able to leave the island for the last 10-20 /or even 50 years, ffs/, not ever. Or they shouldn't have had so many guns and more bows and axes. On the whole they shouldn't have gone for hundreds of enemies.

Yeah they shouldn't have had any game in this movie whatsoever. The story is most important, when will they learn?

The game is a joke.

Most modern videogame stories are completely at odds with the mechanics and Tomb Raider is a prime example. Sweet, innocent Lara goes from being some amateur archaeologist to being ridiculously physically adept, has Navy SEAL capabilities in dealing with injury and survival techniques, and after the game leads up to and makes a huge deal of her killing someone, she then proceeds to mow down literally hundreds without remorse, because it's an action game. The story never touches the point again.

Faffy pointdexters call this "ludonarrative dissonance" and it's why Uncharted can get away with it and Tomb Raider can't. Uncharted is Indiana Jones level wink-wink, nudge-nudge material that's always in on the joke and knows how ridiculous and silly it is. Tomb Raider never acknowledges that maybe, just maybe, an action game bordering so far from reality might also conflict with a "realistic", super-serious, dramatic story.

In my opinion this was completely the wrong direction to take the franchise and more importantly shows that the developers were not really thinking intelligently about their game despite the "dark and mature" facsimile.

wtf

Only TotalBiscuit would praise a game for leaving its core mechanics, theme/gimmick behind in favor of mass market lowest common denominator shooting/cutscenes/QTEs/etc. and making any unique and defining parts of it optional instead.
