Imagine the horror of only recruiting candidates based on their experience, skills and competence.

It's the gaming industry. They hire people based upon how willing they are to work massive amounts of overtime for little pay just for the joy of working on vidya gamez.

Not being in Los Angeles, SF, Seattle, or even NYC means feeling more separated from industry peers at different studios. The Rockville area is suburban hellscape.

BIPOC professionals, beware. The company is made up of mostly white males, especially in leadership positions. There are ERGs, but they are volunteer-led, meaning there's no real movement for diversity initiatives or planning. Ignore the BLM statement on the job board - it's for show.

More on the hiring process, I got a peek into what that looked like internally, and leadership only relies on resumes that show you've had experience in games, which greatly limits the pool of candidates.

Pros

-It can he a fun place to work sometimes -Made great friends while employed there -Free food, fun parties -You're forced to learn very quickly -Looks great on a resume

Cons

-Clique-iest place I've ever worked, by far. -Employees who are clearly bad at their jobs get promoted for being mediocre. -The path to promotion makes very little sense. There is a "score" that employees are graded against during reviews, but everyone is told that the highest score is unattainable. -Some managers expect perfection, and constantly use negative reinforcement to manage their teams. -Employees are underpaid, and Bethesda knows they can get away with it, since the video games industry in the MD area is nonexistent. -Employees of color are still rare, especially in management roles, despite promises of better hiring practices. -HR would rather downplay or hide serious issues than address and correct them. -Upper management has been run by the same 10-15 at Bethesda for the better part of 20 years. This results in an "old boys" environment amongst managers.

Advice to Management

Try to legitimately build a culture in which employees feel empowered to drive their own careers and do meaningful work. Hire more people of color.

They should give one this chump's job.

Got to love Todd's damage control over why the enemy NPC's in Starfield have shit-tier AI.

Starfield looks like generic Fallout 4/Outer Worlds trash with somehow worse animations/combat feel than Fallout 4. I'm curious to see what the new TES game will be like, though.

I hope they bring back attributes and actual builds for ES6.
They most likely won't though because apparently zoomers can't make builds and get buttmad they can't just be great at everything all the time, and get their perception of RPGs from Critical Role.

Oh, and then they'll complain that Stealth Archers are op. It's almost as if removing builds and attributes removes the need to compromise and adapt, and instead makes the most powerful option the go to in every playthrough.

Not progressive enough.
White men (oh sorry, I mean "body type A") characters get a debuff to all of their stats.
Redguards and orcs get a massive set of stat bonuses.

Yeah, that's the biggest concern. Not like Skyrim or Oblivion weren't casual as fuck, but decline is eternal, and the level of decline encapsulated in Fallout 4's character system would definitely be a step down even from Skyrim. I guess we can only hope they show some restraint and don't go full retard.

My team has the sexiest and deadliest waifus you can recruit.
Different regions in Daggerfall only differ by the town art assets. Areas don't feels substantially different in that game because of the overuse of procedurally generated content.

That's not quite true. Some areas do have unique art. Afair some of the southern areas have different building textures etc. The vegetation is different. And the type of people there tend to vary too, operating off my very old memories of playing it in DOS era.
