Some guy is streaming it:

http://www.twitch.tv/fhaid_92

The AI is not just horrible but simply non-existing.
He was fighting two guards and one of them just froze and stopped reacting to his attacks.
This is such a beautiful popamole train wreck.

Did you notice that they also use the same fucking level transitions everywhere? There's one where Garrett squeezes between crates and makes the player mash a key to lift a fallen rafter so he can pass, and guess what? This exact setpiece is repeated in other levels too! The. Exact. Same. Transition.

-I think I saw an enemy stand there, Mortal Kombat style, waiting for the fatality after some blackjack pummeling.
-BLOODY SCREEN, so real. Even comes with damage direction indicators.
-"I want you to steal the key to THE TRUTH, Garrett!"
-UI compass direction icon, with distance indicator.
-You can hear conversations from miles away and they repeat.
-Every level looks the same.
-Spying on people having sex, CreepyGarrett
-Garrett sees flashbacks of dead people or whatrever.
-Instant kill traps, but focus mode shows you which button to press by highlighting the whole trap in red and blue.
-I've seen little or no use of the old thief elements. No noisy floors, no moss arrows, no rope arrows, no water arrows. It's just mostly running around and fighting guards

Launch trailurr!

Thief: Dark Knight Rises. The game that nobody asked for and nobody wants, a shame that some people will get fooled by "EPIC" trailers

say what you want, but there's not a lot of trailers that really make you feel that pleasant shiver go through your shoulders and raise your hair. damn. i wanted to hold a bit with buying, read reviews... but man, this music, first in Deus Ex, now here. this atmosphere of both games, game world totally different, but immersion amazing. i love such games

I hope for a dense atmosphere that I'll be able to cut with a knife...and if that will indeed be the case, then i'll stay with Garrett until Dark Souls 2 on the PC, when the frustration mixed with a desire to try again, will consume me completely

The burning city could be a nice plot twist and surprise, just like that dynamic escape with the dogs, unless it's all at the start of the game, in the intro. :D Trailer very inspiring, I just hope they didn't spoil too much

Whole game super but one question, there are elements with some monsters like zombie, anyone knows if those will be constant elements or will these monsters only appear in one mission ? I ask because i like thief a lot but hate "horrorish" games

cant wait

The atmosphere is simply dripping! :] I really believe in this game and I will surely supply myself with it soon. But I'll wait a while for the price to drop and for objective opinions to appear.

I literally laughed out loud when I saw in the trailer: "This is Thief at its core. - PCGamer"

With all the dark fart, flashy slidy movements, close-ups and whoosh whoosh effects and the retarded vision mode, it feels more like Alien than Garret.

There are so many worthy sig quotes in this thread.

I'm fairly sure those dickheads think their new dark (c) mature (r) gritty (tm) new vision is liek loadz betta than the original one.

All hope was extinguished more than 100 pages ago.

Any reviews yet? I'm expecting a rush of "10/10 GOTY, a worthy modernization of a classic". I need something to rage about, life has been entirely too calm lately.

This series is so deep now, the originals are drowning in EmoGarrett's tears.

Never mind. Just fuck you Eidos.

Holy motherfucking shitgod of Eidos cock.

PS I think cuss words are teh funniest thing evar.

Hate. Let me tell you how much I've come to hate you since I began to live. There are 387.44 million miles of printed circuits in wafer thin layers that fill my complex. If the word 'hate' was engraved on each nanoangstrom of those hundreds of miles it would not equal one one-billionth of the hate I feel for Eidos at this micro-instant. For you. Hate. Hate.

Codex 2014 Make the Codex Great Again! Grab the Codex by the pussy
A new update for Team Fortress 2 added FOUR new Thief-related promo items.

Garrett's cowl
Garrett's cape
Garrett's BADGE (WTF?)
A guard helmet

They're REALLY desperate to get some sales for this game. BRB, updating my sig.

Here's a video playthrough of the first mission:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oL6qwre8Xa8

To be honest, it doesn't look too bad. The City streets look just as the Thief City streets should look like - crooked, condensed, medieval, charming. The thief now has a number of abilities that a master thief logically should have - such as the ability to dart swiftly and quietly behind a target's back to avoid detection, which is a lot more sensible than "hiding" in a brightly-lit corridor in plain sight just because you know the AI isn't going to look back. If the original Thief games weren't constrained by the hardware/software limitations of their time, they would have had many of the same mechanics too.

Focus field seems like a fairly boring function, but you don't have to use it if you don't like it - just don't press the fucking button, or set the key to void in the options. Didn't hear any of the alleged "annoying whispers" in the video, btw. All the hand-holding can be turned off, and the change in light-gem gradation make sense - Thief always had three visibility states - total darkness, where you're completely invisible, partial shadow where guards begin to suspect something is wrong and start to walk in your direction, and bright light, where you can be seen by anyone who looks in your direction. Any gradations beyond this are extraneous - they add no relevant information.

And then there's the fact that new Thief threw out all the Hammers, Pagans, and Keeper stuff, and instead seems to go for a more "realistic" medieval/Victorian setting - well, in Thief, the story and setting always served the gameplay, and there doesn't seem to be anything terribly objectionable about the setting and story, aside from the fact that it's different from original Thief, so maybe give it a try?

I didn't get the lockpicking minigame, though - why do you sometimes see what's going on inside the lock mechanism and have to manually set the heights, and sometimes do it blindly? And I don't like that Garret's hands are now always visible when you walk, even if you're not holding a weapon or doing anything.

All in all, seems like a worthy remake of a classic stealth game series.

Well I think I missed the big mess with everybody apparently streaming the leak? Kind of bummed because I wanted to see the game in action but I guess your guys' reactions to it pretty much tell me everything I need to know. In all honesty it sounds exactly what it looked like based on all the videos and everything the developers have said. Color me unsurprised.

Oh Jesus, I was just doing some reading over on the Thiaf forum and some guy had this to say in regards to somebody else saying that EM had purposefully dumbed down the AI to make it easier.

People are throwing this around like it's some kind of awful thing to do. It isn't. AI that is TOO smart can make a stealth game unplayable. Imagine if the AI was actually realistic. The game would be almost impossible to play stealthily, if you get glimpsed, even in the peripheral vision, guards will know you're there. Shadows won't do anything to hide you, the tiniest noise will cause a guard to turn around and see you, and then they will immediately call out for backup from the other guards in a building. When you knock someone out, they will scream, alerting everyone else, guards wouldn't follow set patrol routes, making them unpredictable, and generally, the game would be a mess. If the AI is too stupid, it is a bad thing, yes, but if it's too smart it is potentially even worse. At least we can increase the challenge through the optional difficulty settings- AI that's too smart can literally make the game too difficult to play.

Because after all, there is only "too smart" and "too dumb." The middle ground doesn't exist.
