Well we don't know when the new Thief is setted do we? Might be during the TMA era.
Love them too. They made my Thief experience 100% more challenging in TMA than in the first one.

It's supposed to be set during some undisclosed time after the original trilogy, although it's really a reboot.

Have they really said anything about that ?

All I have heard is thats its a straight reboot starting from a clean slate, flavoured with a few homages to the earlier games such as the keeper glyphs and Mechanist symbols.

I'm afraid that even the devs itself don't know when the thi4f is settled.
They just got some IP from ancient time when game entry was high, mobile gaming exist as GameBoy or indestructable Nokia with Snake.
They don't understand the lore inside this game (Keppers? Are they iluminati or what? Pagans? Ah, ecologists. Mechanists? People with trains obsession?), propably spend few minutes with some summary (or just saw article on mobygames.com) and make their own interpretation which is - in reality - making clone of Dishonored.

Old fans? Who cared about them. We got work to do. The're never satisfied anyway.

Funny thing is when I watched the stream earlier with the Eidos dude, some journalist asked him "What makes your game a Thief game".
His answer was basically : "First off, it's a story-driven game. Also It's a first person game you know. Well it's true it was third person at earlier stages but now we're sure : it's better in first person"
Heh.

Yes, the UI is awful. The complete and jarring disconnect between the UI and the gameworld makes me want to sack someone.

Spellcaster this is a reboot. Total reboot. From wikipedia:

In serial fiction, to reboot means to discard all continuity in an established series in order to recreate its characters, timeline and backstory from the beginning.

Hammerites never existed. If there are keepers, they're not the keepers we know. Pagans apparently also dont exist. Whole other world, whole other timeline.

Watched some streams for as long as I could hold the bile in.

- Objective and button icons showing through walls.

- Dash from cover to cover ability, so that you don't have to worry about that 'timing' nonsense

- Falling into plain light in front of a guard? Meh, no biggie

- Icons above npc's heads showing their alertness level.

- A reticle for the bow. Cause, you know, why learn how to aim.

- Emotional (c) Engagement (c)

- Hud constantlyl bombarding you with information, objectives, directions, so that you stick_to_the_fucking_path

The circuit court of Codexia finds Eidos guilty on all charges and sentences it to triple life, no parole

Also, like it how the stream is people talking about Skyrim and Halo 5. They hit the spot with the fanbase

I just watched a stream where the Thief-Taker General murdered some random Watch guard because he didn't do his job properly. So dark and edgy.

No, he's a clone of Daniel Day-Lewis in his role in Gangs of New York, but with a limp and a crossbow on his arm because why the fuck not.

So I just opened a stream and was met by this :
NSs2nKH.jpg

Meanwhile in the chat some kiddies asked if the first two games were released on consoles and then the streamer going "There were three Thief games?".

Fuck you Eidos.

The writing to is bad across the board. Even the softer lore friendly words like "Taff" and "Taffer" are now just common gutter bile. All to no doubt help push for the 18 rating to appear edgy and cool.

"Good authors, too, who once knew better words now only use four-letter words writing prose... anything goes."

Sums it up nicely for me.

Hey guise, I don't know if someone already posted this but anyway:
Square Enix and Amazon, in collaboration with a host of gaming partners including AMD and the team behind The Dark Mod, today announced the ultimate THIEF mod contest in celebration of the upcoming reboot to THIEF.
Beginning today, the company challenges the THIEF and modding communities to put their imagination to the test.

“Whether it’s creating a new heist for Garrett or reworking a classic level from the series, Square Enix and Amazon are looking for fans to submit entries in one of two categories; either a short video playthrough of a mod they’ve created, or a pitch for a mod they would like to create.”

Once submitted, all entries will be voted on by the community, members of the Thief development team, and members of The Dark Mod team.

One winner from each of the two categories will be chosen and will receive a host of prizes from key partners, including:

- A high-end gaming rig from AMD which includes an AMD Radeon™ R9 290X graphics card
- An all-expenses paid trip to E3 2014 with Square Enix
- Steam code for all Square Enix Games with the matching Prima Guide
- A bundle of game development books on Kindle
- An Amazon Kindle DX

In addition, every entrant to the competition will also receive a free digital version of Thief: Gold (1999) courtesy of Amazon.com.

Closing date for entries is April 14, 2014.

Now the big question is; will the remake of THIEF support mods or is Square Enix trying to take advantage of the first game’s community in order to spark interest for the new THIEF title?

THIEF is coming to PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox One and X360 on on February 25th.
I find funny that one of the prizes is Thief: Gold. They realy must know their game is so much shit that no one would want it so they are giving a good game instead. Hey, guise, anyone don't have have played Thief: Gold? Square Enix are being magnanimous in giving a 15 years old game for free.

"Our game has actually no modding support. Fuck you modder cunts. Wait actually i take that back. Give us a full video of a mod idea for us to make DLC out of it. Thanks!"

Mechanist stuff outside of more simpler technologies like electric light and steam systems, that were brought by them, was banned and considered a crime after the events of TMA. That's made clear already on T3, where you can't find robots and cameras anymore. They're the nazis of Thief's lore and have become taboo, so probably they won't bring them back on this game. A shame, they were cool as fuck and one of the best parts of Thief.

Let thy praises to Father Karras be heard :flamesaw:
Thiaf has nowthing to do with to old trilogy lorewise, so they could easily include robotic stuff.

NO! This game has nothing to do with the old Thieves. I'm not hearing you. tral-la-la-la-la *covers his ears*

On another note, I'm glad that the game turns out to the trainwreck we anticipated. :D

ffs stop spreading false information, this game has a completely new setting, unrelated to previous Thief events. If that wasn't the case, they'd desperately try to shoehorn all original factions into this, but instead they are free to do "their own thing" (tm) and good fucking riddance, it's much more lulzy and less tragic. Also, I'm fairly sure those dickheads think their new dark (c) mature (r) gritty (tm) new vision is liek loadz betta than the original one.

Keep in mind that Steam version will require the unofficial fixes to work properly.
Unlike the GOG version, that works fine without any additional hassle.
