Hm...Many korean grinders I can't even remember the name, Champions Online during beta, a bit of UO on freeshards, Warhammer Online, Guild Wars...never for more than a month or so, though. The only MMO I've dedicated a good time was world of warcraft back in TBC, I had a good guild that made an otherwise boring game p. fun to play.

Also, some quick impressions by some dude on the beta: http://www.betacake.net/2011/10/07/the- ... pressions/

Dragon:

A whisper of a rumour of a shadow, this Asian group is the most secretive of societies. With no fixed territory or structure, the Dragon have dissolved and reformed throughout history. They believe that a closed, controlled society is a sick society. Only through collapse and rebuilding, the natural chaos of life, can the world be in harmony. Recently, they have taken root in a nameless district of Seoul, Korea.

To an outsider, their strategies are incomprehensible. Fractal patterns, chaos theory, random numbers, unrelated events. The Dragon understand that there is no pattern, only acts of great change to be committed. From a whisper to an explosion, they divine that an incident here, a disappearance there, can change the course of everything; acupuncture applied to a paralysed planet.

In the order of the Dragon, you are given the entire cosmos in potential. They have practiced martial and mental arts attuned to the true harmony of the world. The most dangerous and unpredictable of magics bend to the wills of those who are dangerous and unpredictable. In the approaching dark times, things will never be the same again. You are in the Dragon's element.

Illumanati:

The Illuminati may have ancient roots, but they remain forever young and hungry. In every growing empire they have played for it all. And they play for keeps. Stealing the Americas from under the Templars' noses, they grew with the United States to become a shadow superpower. Their corporate headquarters, the Labyrinth, is in an undisclosed location beneath Brooklyn, New York.

Acting silently, unless the occasion calls for a gunshot, the Illuminati push for a New World Order. It will be empowering and ruthless. Failure is not an option. Complacency is worse than not an option. Their arsenal is the ambition of a new media startup, the rhetoric of a congressman and a mogul's business sense. Working hard, playing hard and fighting dirty.

The Illuminati's golden agents enjoy power, money and glamour – but the real power they offer you goes beyond that. Information worked from every civilian, government and clandestine organisation in the world. Advances in modern magics, in the 'New Magic', that the secret world has never seen. They can give you everything...and they can take it all away.

Templars:

Proudly tracing their royal lineage back to Babylon, the Templars are the lions of the secret world. When they roar, everyone listens. Old Europe is theirs, and the Templars' marble hall dominates the old London borough of Ealdwic - historic capital of the secret world. It's not just a show of strength. Nothing is just for show with the Templars.

At the forefront of the war against darkness, they decide for themselves what counts as darkness. Never backing down from a fight. Never forgetting a grudge. They have tradition to uphold. For thousands of years they have been single-minded in their mission to obliterate evil in all its forms. Where angels fear to tread, the Templars kick down doors.

As a soldier of the Templars, you will benefit from their military might. They have hoarded vast occult libraries and the hard-won knowledge of battles throughout time. Their traditional magics, the old mysticism of sorcerers and priests, of life and death, are powerful still. And the loyalty between Templars may be old-fashioned, but it is absolute. You will not stand alone.

A quick summary for those who may not have read the 3 factions...

The zealousness of the Templars is amusing...

This is how the factions will play out:

Templars: Typical goodie-two-shoes players, and kids.
Dragons: All the pubescents who usually pick an evil faction, come here because they look so kewl. Also, weeaboos.
Illuminati: Just like the typical "evil" faction of any MMO... except all the superficial kiddies will be gladly stolen away by the Dragon.

So the choice is easy.

I wonder what the Goons will be.

I honestly don't like any of the three factions, the Dragons are just more interesting than the other two.

Well, when it comes to the Dragons, what it could be...

What you we will get once the players hop onboard is a bunch of weeaboo fashion disaster bullshit and goth-fags.

The combat system unfortunately won't be as good as AoC's, but the setting looks good - since it has every fiction you can think of, everyone should be satisfied :)

As long as MMOs go - the first few areas had great atmosphere, though the cities were still a bit bland. The HPL aspect of Kingsmouth is really good - the atmosphere is menacing.

Dunno 'bout you, but for me the "realistic" art design (not cartoony/manga/epic pauldron which is too prevalent since years) can be a selling point, after AoC goes down of course.

Some AoC spoilers ahead:
...speaking of AoC and HPL - Funcom writers/designers seem to be drawn to his work. The last boss of Tier 2 was merely a "space traveller", but Rise of the Godslayer goes further. The main playfield is a giant "spaceship" crashsite, you'll battle a few tentacled bosses, you'll see names like Dagon, N'yarlathotep etc. The still unfinished raid Tier 4 is centered around something taken out the crashsite that would make people go mad only after looking at it.

:M Yagkoolan yok tha, xuthalla!

Well, Conan and the Mythos have always lived closeby, since Howard and Howard were bros back in the day and made cameos of each other's work in their work. So it's fairly canonically feasible to consider the Mythos world and Conan world the same.

It sure is, though there was not even a slightest mention of it in any of the movies for example. Here you have a whole expansion pack (and the only one atm) built around it. Most players don't even know about this, while for me it's an insta-boner

Speaking of AoC, I came back to try it out since it went f2p and it feels good now man...there are predictably many more players in leveling zones so I can find people for dungeons with my lvl 52 Barb (I play on Crom EU). There is also an appearance tab and I finally look kickass, not like some faggot in a skirt.

PvP for me is almost nonexistant though, since minigames are more boring than looking for a jerk-off-worthy porn in the middle of a night and on a pve serv it's the only form of pvp until endgame. Still better than dealing with gankers on pvp server.

I will propably level to 80 and see for myself if it's worth playing then, you can't trust those what those cocksuckers on official forums say. If I don't have to grind for too long in weaboo land than maybe I'll buy a premium. Anyway, I recommend trying it out since you can easily level to 80 for free and it's propably the best leveling experience any MMO has to offer.

Is the Khitai 20-whatever area any good? I'm bored playing through Tortage again.
You can't skip Tortage - at least until you level to 16 (few hours...). The Gateway to Khitai is meant for players 20-40, so it's the same like Khopshef, Conall or Wild Lands - but for the new race. It's harder, but the experience gain is faster.

@Delirius: The main plot of RotGS is a very clever expansion of "The Tower of the Elephant" and is very Lovecraftish. Here's some blurb about the factions which are the main players - http://aoc.wikia.com/wiki/Factions_of_Khitai. How weeaboo is that?

For me the situation is simple: I can play a game with REH/HPL lore or I can play few other games with Pandarens and other retarded crap. Or not play at all :)

Yeah, Gateway to Khitai is the best place to go at low levels because it's the most challanging and quests are most diverse, not only about killing shit. If I remember correctly there was one involving your char becoming a manwhore, which I thought was funny at a time because it ironically points out what a xp whores mmo players are, ready to suck cocks just to level up. It's mostly about defending Great Wall from Mongols though, which was pretty cool.

Also you get your first AA points there in some quest, which other than talent points are used to customize your character. I only know they're a big deal in endgame.

I know the lore is great. But I'm more worried about the amount of grinding in the endgame. Btw what's your class?

You can train them "offline" once you're 80 - so works pretty well with casuals and altaholiks. Some things are pretty must-have and make your character more powerful or give you the skills are needed for Hardmodes - but those you can get relatively fast. The rest takes a bit longer to get, but it's not so crucial.

I play mostly on PoM and BS - both healers which can also deal good damage (all classes can in AoC). I also have 6 other well geared and with a good amount of AA.

Do you have a high-lvl Barb? I'm asking because I've heard some people saying you have to go Reaver in endgame PvE? Fuck that, I don't want no stinking dual-wielding on my char (I only use it on very rare occasions). Bigass two-handed sword, that's where it's at.

So, is it true? Berserkers are unwanted in PvE?

Nah, you can do well with a 2H - you'll be tougher, but the dps will not be the best. All barbs in our guild are 2H.

For pure PvE it's actually best to go hybrid - dps in dual wield and switch to 2H for stuns/knockbacks. My freshest toon is a barb and I just recently switched from 2h to hybrid.

Nice! How's the beta so far? Did it start for realz or is it still only weekend stuff?
Don't have time for it - spending what I have on AoC :)

But I can tell you the art direction is superb and the HPL influence is big.
