Haven't had problems with camera myself yet, but I'll keep an eye on how it behaves once I'm back to playing.

The problem I have with it is that it isn't standart wasd+mouse way of controling, pressing a makes character run left, then pressing d makes him stop, turn around, and run right, in Risen1 a, and d were strafing (traditional FPS controls with TP camera) it gives much better control of movement.

Oh dear, I thought the SpeedTree fever was over. I'm surprised anyone in the AAA zone is still sticking to it. Maybe the problem was poor and lazy implementation but I never liked how crap looked in games using SpeedTree.
Actually most AAAAAAAAAAaaaa games still use SpeedTree as far as I'm aware, but it's progressed quite a lot since its early days. To be quite honest the foliage looks very good in R2, it's just that something is bugged on some of the systems with it right now.

Expanding on what Aeschylus said. Only part where player skill really matters in G1/2 are enemies that can hit combos like Sentenza, orcs or those 2H skeletons. Humans who have less than 30% 1H skill are piss easy because you just hit and block. Versus animals it is all stats and items.

How clunky is the animation? AssCreed works the same but animations and the controls are good and fluid and I was pretty comfortable with it.

True. Though I suppose there are one or two enemies where just player skill and a good enough weapon can win it for you. If you know the right tactics you can beat trolls at a very low level by just strafing around them. Skeletons are truly annoying. Fortunately you can get those undead killing scrolls.

My GAME order has just been cancelled. Looks like no online retailer has this now, except for Steam, where it costs £39.99. Looks like I won't be playing Risen 2 any time soon. Maybe I'll be able to buy it if it gets cheap during this year's Steam summer sale.

mouse y axis look speed is about 20% of x axis, with no option of changing it except cfg file editing.

I refuse to buy this Bastion sequel. I hate this whole "world appears as you move" idea. It's even more ridiculous in 3D.

Better than first Risen, I'd say. Combat animations certainly are more varied and fluid. Overall animations are pretty good and as soon as they remove the glitches (mostly to do with plant life) it'll be pretty solid. There's also a good amount of idle animations, and NPCs have daily schedules as usual per PB games. NPCs also react to trying to get into "forbidden" areas and to sneaking - again, as usual.

Ran into some interesting enemies just now, of the wildlife variety.

First, a jaguar. Fucker tore half my healthbar, thanks to Patty's help didn't have to reload. Fast and tough sods though, and seem to totally ignore block.
Then, a giant crab. By the water. Funny creatures, you can knock them on their back sometimes, and then slice their unprotected belly. Otherwise they're quite resistant/immune to damage of my sucky Officer's Sword.
Finally, ran into a bunch of black slaves. They went for Patty mostly, and one of them had a machete. :smug:

Btw. found out more about the DLC I was talking about in the other thread in regards to:
http://www.pcgames.de/Risen-2-Dark-...mit-simplen-Kaempfen-und-wenigen-Bugs-879112/
Kind of roughly translated:
[...]As negative one could assess the way, in which the game puts your nose towards missing already released and future DLC. Missing entries in the list of NPC-companions, that are marked with a question mark indicate further upcoming Mini-Add-Ons. The empty space for the missing legendary item from The Treasure Island-DLC is also shown in the main game and the player finds a letter in a bottle, which presumably has something to do with the upcoming Expansion around The Temple of Air. These loose ends make players feel uncomfortable about missing out on content, without buying the additional DLCs. Annoying!

1) Treasure Island - Which people would get for Pre-Ordering and which costs ~10€ after, an entire island with extra quests and stuff, according to official word and a few sources this alone is up to 5 hours of extra content
2) Pirate Costume - A special armor, boots, hat, gun and ring giving special stats and XP-Boni etc. (it's included in the Collector's Edition, but can apparently also be bought separately)
3) The Temple of Air - Which is apparently exclusive to the "Stahlbarts Schatz" Edition of the game that costs 90€ and people not ordering it that way can apparently only buy it "a few weeks later" e.g. only the people buying that Steelbeard edition will be able to visit that island, it's also an entire island with extra quests etc.

That site says it'll be out on the 3/8/12.... 97 days. Haha.

I'm not bothered now anyway, looks like Pirahna Bytes have turned into real assholes and have sliced the game up into DLC which some people have to pay for. So, fuck them.

Combat in Dark Messiah is probably the best sword and bow combat that we have witnessed in history of gaming, and i mean ever. It's not about its animations or if it looks pretty or not, but about the mechanics. If Arkansas won't make combat in Dishonored on par with Dark Messiah or even better, i doubt we will see this kind of combat ever again.

From what I've played so far the game seems to be a fun if dumbed down PB title. However I'm wary of it falling apart later into the usual generic dungeon crawler stuff. The DLC shit alone also makes sure I'll wait for a GOTY edition if I'll ever will want to make a purchase.

Must also say that the story and the writing so far feels forced. I'll just jot that down to 'pulpy on purpose' cos I'm a nice guy.

Shit, in Polish version the main character has the same voice actor as Jaskier (Dandelion) in The Witcher, and Carlos has the same actor as the main character of the Gothic series. Feels weird a bit, but nothing wrong with that, I guess.

Glad I waited. I'm sure it'll be a decent enough experience if/when they bother to patch the optimization and performance and the DLC is all out and at 50+ percent off.

I definitely liked Dark Messiah's combat( though visuals and sound had a lot to do with it), but I think Blade of Darkness beats it rather easily.

And pirate version has all three.

Does this game work well with a gamepad? Not to be a decliner, but I've been looking for a good game to chill out with on the couch now that I have my PC attached to my TV. I haven't been able to find any PC RPGs that are both good and work with a controller. Risen 1 didn't even though it had console ports, the UI was completely different and unsuitable for a controller in the PC version.

I "tried" it for an hour. Glad I won't have to buy it (which I would, had I liked it). I didn't experience performance/graphics issues - the game ran fine.

I guess I just wanted a new Gothic-like game, not a continuation of Risen. I don't remember any of the returning characters and I even feel distanced to the player character himself. It's the same problem I had with the Witcher 2.

Dialogue is shit (maybe they should have hired Rhianna Pratchett again  ), combat is shit (3-attack combo, 100 year cooldown pistol, fun), thieving is shit (immortal guards, shit AI), the follower woman is shit (uninteresting as a character and useless in combat), all the NPCs are shit, the pirate theme is shit and using paths rather than open exploration is shit.

The game does a piss-poor job of making you actually want to explore the game - to play just "to see what happens next".

I didn't give it much of a chance but I just really thought everything about it sucked.

Hmm, things seem to be looking grim.

Personally, I enjoyed Risen, and was looking forward to another experience on similar terms (hopefully improved...) but nobody is coming back with anything good to say about this game. I won't even comment on the DRM and DLC...

Even Trash, who is usually quite forgiving with games (at least initially) doesn't exactly paint a picture with shining colours...
