It is next gen, but diminishing returns and all that. Ratchet looked nice - not that much different than the PS4 title on the first glance, but the simultaneous use of reflections, materials, particles and open detailed horizons is definitely a technical leap, even if not visually obvious one. Also, rapid and seamless change of environments showcases the new SSD capabilities. In theory, we could finally have an entirely seamless interior-exterior transition in open-world games.

Still think it was too soon and unnecessary - PS4 had two technically different versions and I don't really think it had that many (good or otherwise) games. Hardware isn't an issue anymore IMO, creating easy-to-use and optimized out-of-the box software/game-engine is. Most series nowadays have a single title per generation while previously they would have up to two or even three.

I like to think somewhere in Marvel is a master troll that wanted a black Spider-Man just so they could give some life to the "They don't need bus transportation in Harlem, they just swing on the branches" classic joke.

Console looks like it's wrapped in a burst condom - I hope they do an all black edition because this is hideous. Will buy the disc edition because while I would prefer digital it's cheaper to buy games on disc *and* you can trade them in afterwards.

Demon's Souls, Deathloop, RE8 and Hitman 3 looked OK. HZ2 and Spidey 2 look like more of the same expansion packs. Kids will probably like Ratchet and Clank. Returnal, Godfall, Ghostwire all maybes.

Except for that one Square game, which was a prototype, none of looked especially impressive to me graphically. Somewhat better than current games maxed out on PC I guess, but not really impressively better. Diminishing returns and all that, as other have said. None of the PS5 exclusives really did much for me, which is nothing new. Nice to see stuff coming to PC that I know I want though, like Hitman 3 and Deathloop.

Laughed out loud when black Spider-man had to have a hip hop soundtrack, because of course it did.

Took balls to entitle your presentation "Future of gaming" and to start with GTA 5

We have this really awesome game you paid for and played on PS3 and PS4 - now buy it again.

Rockstar taking GTA Online and making it free-to-play on consoles, (or at least PS5) which I'm a little surprised they didn't to that soon given that's where they make their money, is going to make Rockstar so much money. Unless Sony changes how they're handling their online with PS5, it means everyone that has one can play GTA Online for free.

Yeah.

PS1 had 3 Final Fantasies.
PS2 had 3 also, but two were the same.
PS3 had 3 also, but three were the same.
PS4 had two, but one does not really exist, and the other is the PS1 one.

It is not about transfer speeds - Gothic 1 has seamless transitions. It is about geometry and collisions.

As upcoming current console generation has twice as much memory as previous one, and the usual increase in every previous generation was 16x - open worlds won't see much progress. Sure, you can use SSD to stream assets in open world game - and you just need quick glance at Star Citizen gameplay videos to see how it works in practice.

In short - PS5 is not built for open world games - it is built for 30 fps cinematic "experiences" that realistically show every hair on Nathan Drake ass.

Gimmick in Ratchet trailer was nice but one could see framedrops even on this shitty stream. Cant even hold stable 30 fps. In a action twitch game where quick and smooth feedback is essential.

Even Gran Turismo had visible pop in, check the tunnel sequence in particular.

RE 8 demo also while looking the best of the bunch had fuckload of really visible frame drops.

Mighty SSD was a nice marketing bit but it seems it will still struggle on delivering stable 30. We can forget about 60 fps on this next gen console.

Xbox got a huge edge here compared to this fancy router.

Well, at least that gamepad is genuinely revolutionary. Finally a playstation console also aimed at human males aged 10+. Now also reflect this in the game library and we're set.

Have you only played The Elder Scrolls games?

Gothic had seamless transitions and it was released 19 years ago! Kingdom Come: Deliverance from 2018 also has it.

I'm sure the lack of seamless transitions was all that stood in the way to make real great massive open-world games

Yes. Designers will finally be able to fully realize the snowy mountain 100m away from arid desert gaming meme without stutters.

I'm thinking of you, Horizon 2.
