False alarm, Death Stranding is a Kojima IP now.

https://insider-gaming.com/death-stranding-ip/

Following the announcement that a Death Stranding Director’s Cut will be coming to Xbox, Kojima Productions has also announced that the Death Stranding IP now belongs to the developer.
Interesting, I wonder if DS2 will also come to Xbox on release or if it will be a timed exclusive.

This... isn't good at all. By comparison:

Super Mario Odyssey - 9.08m in 67 days
Super Mario 3D World BF - 5.59m in 47 days
Kirby and the forgotten land - 2.65m in 5 days
Crash bandicoot trilogy - 2.5m in 90 days
Sonic Frontier - 2.5m in 35 days
It takes two - 2m in 66 days
Astro Bot - 1.5m in 58 days
Ratchet and Clank rift apart - 1.1m in 50 days
Sonic x Shadow generations - 1m in 3 days

So the average ps5 gamer only buys it for 1 game?
No. The article linked completely misread the report (you can read the actual thing free online). It actually said that Sony's first party PS5 and PS4 titles combined sold 77.7 million in Q2 2024. This kind of bundling isn't exclusive to Sony's quarterly reports either: Its poorly redacted FTC filing gave the sales numbers of CoD and sportsball for "PlayStation family".

It's even worse than it sounds. Sony's software sales are in the "supplemental" PDF for each quarter here. Notice anything interesting in these two datasheets (note: PS5 launched November 12, 2020)?

Despite bundling two systems worth of software, the first party software sales are stagnant at best, and total software by revenue is stagnant outside of quarter 3. And if you're wondering: Quarter 3 for Sony is July 1, 2024 - September 30, 2024, EA normally releases their annual sports games (hooligan ball, college handegg, and professional handegg) in this quarter, and Activison drops the annual CoD in November.

Let's take a look at the list again!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:PlayStation_5-only_games

Almost everything on here is either not yet released (Wolverine), is a VR exclusive, is a remake (Demon's Souls, Neptunia) has some exclusive missions (Project Wingman), is coming to PC (Stellar Blade), is a sequel to a game that came to PC (Ghost of Yotei, FF7 Rebirth), is bad (Quantum Error) or dead (Destruction AllStars). The only true exclusives are the Astro games (the first is more of a tech demo) and, of all things, Rise of the Ronin. That's a game by Team Ninja set during Japan's Boshin War, which already looks like a better weeb game than the new Assassin's Creed.

Same as it ever was.

It would rise the price of PC components as well:

High-end components such as graphics cards could see price hikes up to 50%.

Prices are not going to skyrocket. More like, they'll use it as an excuse to raise prices. But they raise prices when they feel like it anyway. They could eat the cost just fine. How sad, senior members wouldn't make eighty million dollars a year anymore.

A 60% tariff will skyrocket the prices of eletronics.

Senior members will be fine.

Prices will be kept at the maximum level that the market will bear, and to keep the margins they will just use components that are slightly more shitty and/or outdated.

I expect more layoffs too.

Xbox boss Phil Spencer digs at PS5 Pro, says 'we're not growing the market with $1000 consoles'
101690_01_xbox-boss-phil-spencer-digs-at-ps5-pro-says-were-not-growing-the-market-with-1000-consoles.avif

[Emphasis added]

Microsoft gaming boss Phil Spencer has had some potshots at Sony and its new PlayStation 5 Pro console, saying that "we're not going to grow the console with $1000 consoles".

In a new interview with Bloomberg, Spencer talked about acquisitions in world after the historic Activision-Blizzard deal, and that Microsoft is still looking at acquisitions and how to compete and partner in markets for handheld gaming devices and mobile stores.

Deals that would add "geography diversity" to Microsoft, including Asia, could be worthwhile Spencer told Bloomberg. He added: "We definitely want to be in the market, and when we can find teams and technology and capability that add to what we're trying to do in gaming at Microsoft, absolutely we will keep our heads up".

As for the potshots fired at at Sony and its new PS5 Pro console, Spencer said: "I feel pretty good about where this industry is going. To reach new players, we need to be creative and adaptive of new business models, new devices, new ways of access. We're not going to grow the market with $1,000 consoles".
