Dishonored nailed that artstyle. This game's faces look a lot more wonky than that.Reposting my reply to ScrotumBroth that I deleted last week. I didn't want to start another discussion about the game's art design, but it's relevant to toro's assessment of Boyarsky:
Quoting this for everyone to update their .txtWhile you could point at certain elements in those games that are innovative, I think it's a stretch to say that's what Tim and Leonard are "known for". They're known primarily for 1) a certain tone and feel (including humor, aspects of art design, etc) and 2) just plain good roleplaying and C&C. "Innovation" isn't crucial to those things.
What's your angle - you think the game will fail at those things too and I'll have egg on my face? Sure, it might.
I mean a lot of people have hated the game's art style since day one. Boyarsky spent a decade working on Diablo, really liked BioShock & Dishonored and wanted to make a game that looked similar even though some hardcore gamers had already had their fill of that look. You can fault him for being sentimental and out of touch.
I think my issue with the game's art is that they went for the raygun gothic aesthetic, but didn't do enough to make it look more interesting than if you were to come up with a generic parody of a space opera from some other thing.
Bioshock just kinda looked...normal, but it still appeared a lot more atmospheric.
