Sceptic gave me the heads up on it, and I felt like proving to myself that I still had what it takes for 'da oldskool' experience, dig? You know, the whole mapping by hand, saving at inns, shitty balance where your level one party gets raped ad nauseum until you fluke a few good rolls and take some fuckers out(resulting in much joyous swearing at the motherfucking PC) experience. :) Going up a level is truly a momentous occasion and not the derp it is now especially in a turd like Fallout 3 where you gain a level just for persevering through the vault intro!

THIS is how RPG's used to be. Think about that for a minute. And I :salute: you commie.

Right now I'm busy trying to survive Might and Magic 1! GRRRRRR, fucking unbalanced, low level, desperate fucking grindfest, raped by everything, fleeing to inns ,agperjgkl gmth,.tgjhn................................ :rage:
Warned ya :smug:

It does get better once you get to about level 5 and can survive for more than 2 minutes. Questing and exploration on the overworld is great.

1 level up back in the old days used to be the difference between glorious life or shameful death.

now, its just an excuse to call your game an "RPG".

is ageing really a problem?
There's two types of ageing: artificial and natural. Artifical can be very easily overcome (in all of 1-5), in 3 there's an optional quest later on that'll give you the ability to remove it. Natural ageing is a much bigger problem, as there is NO way to reverse it. The game can be easily completed in less than 5 years on a first run, at the absolute most 10 if you take your very sweet time. HOWEVER (you knew there was however, right?) there are several tricky spots in the late game that will increase your NATURAL age permanently; they CAN be avoided (and they should be), but if you fall into the traps you're in big trouble age-wise. But, in terms of spellcasting, it's always (IIRC) artificial age, so you're fine since you can reverse it all later on.

I was skimming through this thread, since I'm currently delving into the M&M series a bit. When I read this part, at first I honestly thought that when you spoke of "natural" age, you were talking about the actual age OOC here. Hardcore. Lolz.

Maybe I should cut back on the Augustiner beer, too.

So, the other night. I find myself with a bit of free time at last, putting off a Daggerfall replay until DaggerXL comes out, and decide to finally load up World of Xeen. It's about 2am, the house is in darkness, I'm pretty drunk, so I decide to spend a while tinkering with party configurations and character creation for a bit before heading to bed. I start off, go back into the tavern, wander about for a while in abject confusion trying to work out how to work the bar. It's soothing, I discover the click-to-activate thing MM3 didn't have, I listen to some table banter and finally make my way to the bar...

Ah yes, I think that was WoX's "do you want Xeen to adjust speaker volumes for you?" Regardless of whether you say yes or no, the speech ends up WAAAAAAAAAAY too loud. Good for the lulz, not so good for your sanity.

Re: Best Might & Magic

Might and Magic VI: The Mandate of Heaven Hands Down its alot longer and harder then MM7 and i enjoy the atmopshere in it more, the dungeons in mm7 were alot smaller, i enjoyed fighting 30-40 enemys at once in mm6 but they realy made the battles in mm7 alot smaller

Well it's not a bad game, it's certainly the best of the action spinoffs (then again we are comparing it to Crusaders...)

I'm far more worried about MM9 getting more votes than MM1 to be honest... I'd like to blame it on not as many people having played 1, but it's still no excuse.

Maybe that's the only one they've played, although in this case they should refrain from voting imo. Or maybe they just voted it as the kingcomrade option.

Finished MM8 several times.

Dabble a bit with MM7, once with MM6. I did remmeber quite disappointed that theyre not as good as 8.

Are they?

I dont trust polls or the Codex because I know for a fact that a lot of you fags think boring-as-shit Fallout 1 is better than Fallout 2 and is a great game.

MM7 is worth your time for Arcomage alone. Best minigame ever.

:what:

8 is by far the weakest of the trilogy. 6 excelled at exploration and 7 perfected the skill system, 8 did neither as well.

Yes, but the version in 8 has a few more cards. Adds to the fun.

Pfffff. M&M8 is the best in the M&M6-8? Madness. M&M6 have many good dungeons and awesome overland map. M&M7 - conclusion of M&M3 story and blasted bloody liches as PC. I have soft spot for these guys. M&M8 - small map, small dungeons, several interesting things, but still weak game compared to M&M7 and especially M&M6.

On the other hand, M&M8 may be approved by DraQ :M

The primary problems with MM8 are a lack of balance in the game. You can recruit a dragon(massive game breaker) or find a level 50 character pretty quickly. MM6 had it right to reward exploration and to not limit spells by level of expertise. Most people would prefer to have those higher level spells ASAP, and not at the mid to late part of the game.

Most of these high level spells was very weak with skill 1 and without any mastery. Still it was very nice.

Guys, I'm now officially retarded, I completely forgot to search after every battle in the M&M1
And I can't find good dungeon for level 5 party, except Sorpigal dungeon. I completely raped even in the Magic Square cave.

Also fucking fever, my teeth dances like mad.

Wow, people prefer MM6 over MM7? I'm wondering because it's an unbalanced POS. Enabling people to get the most powerful spells at level 1 is just... Rong.

MM7 wins for me because of more varied races and classes. And because it had a timed main quest, actually requiring you to make some progress to get the story ahead. And you could get your own keep, which is a small plus.

OK. You may have Inferno or Town Portal at level 1. But you can't use it efficiently. And M&M6 better game overall.

ok, so you're still whimpy on level 1. But you can start putting your skills points into Light & Dark Magic right away, which is why people have finished this game on insanely low levels.

Oh that's another point I forgot, MM7 had a little more replay value by forcing you to choose between paths. Though I guess you might call that a boon or an annoying limitation, based on your taste.

MM6 did have some great, huge dungeons though. I especially fondly remember the one with the hordes of Magyars in it.

I don't know how and when you played both, but back in the late nineties, VI came out after years of waiting and brought a change in the series. VII was rushed up and came out less than a year later and was more of the same, only in mini dungeons. I remember the huge disillusion that followed. It's not that the game is worse (it's actually better in some aspects) but it was still a real disappointment.

Also, people who finish the game as fast as possible, using stupid tricks like the fountain of gods should have their hard drive auto-format immediately.
