Ok. Is it just mass Power and Precision on Greatword? I guess only Torch and fire stuff benefits from Condition?

Been playing as a Mesmer and yesterday tried some RvRvR and had a blast. My primary weapon of choice is sword and focus which has a great skill called Temporal Curtain, a energy wall spell that gives swiftness to allies and cripples enemies that go trough it. The great part of it is the secondary ability that allows you to destroy the wall prematurely but doing so pulls in you target to the wall location. Then I use my one sword skill that creates a illusion that jumps on enemy and cripples them.

Overflow is really annoying but it has it uses, when login in to the game/overflow I quickly run to open every chest out there and when I get transferred to the main server I can go and open them again.

I found a secret area in Lions Arch in Postern Ward which contains a chest, there is a cave with ogres that you cant miss and in the end of the cave there is a jumping puzzle leading to a overlook.

there are at least three chests in LA. all give explorer achievements. two of them (including your ogre cave) can be easily gotten if you ask the rocket rifle asura to explain his device first and therefor get to keep it instead of it disappearing if you move away too far or use it.
ebonhawke also has a weird chest that you can get by playing a certain melody (done via skillbar) on a pipe organ next to it.....

Well... pvp could be awesome as all shit but sadly (and take notes edgy faggots) it almost feels like the Skills/Traits were designed by somebody who knew nothing about the rest of the game (or vice versa)

There are cool as shit skill builds possible in pvp (and of course pve but who gives a fuck) but sadly (even though you are pulling these combos and shit off some times) it just feels to much like an overpaced clusterfuck.

To be fair i thought the same of LoL when i started playing it.. Maybe when im aware of 5 trillion skills/sigils/etc it will all make more sense and allow for more strategic gameplay. As it stands im having fun but it could be so much better. I'm quite impressed by the skills and shit. Really fun

Yeah hot join PvP is kind of zergy because of it being 8v8. It acts as just a fun training ground for tournaments, which is 5v5 and is competitive as fuck.

Anyways, I was leveling my elementalist alt today, and found some crazy jumping puzzle in the starting area. You had to use a control panel to have the platforms materialize, and you couldn't take your time otherwise they would disappear and you'd fall into lava. If you somehow make it through the puzzle, you end up having to jump through a laser field while fighting multiple golems with a turret firing an AOE explosion knockback at you at the same time. It was awesome.

Despite many misgivings, my own boredom and a 20% off deal led me to buying this game.

I went Guardian since, after studying the classes, he seems to be the most interesting. Also, I tried other classes in the BWE and they felt crappy (Mesmer, I'm looking at you). I'm level 11 now and focusing entirely on PvE and a little bit of Armorsmithing. Guardian is definitely a fun class and I enjoy all the different weapon skill sets. My favorite is probably the Torch off-hand although I'm torn on what to use for the main-hand since Mace is really slow and Sword has no survivability. I'm not impressed with the Greatsword, for whatever reason. Feels a bit one-dimensional, I guess. Staff looks like it could be fun as my alternate weapon when I'm far away from the enemy and there are lots of them (like in PvP).

PvE is entertaining but extremely brainless so far. It's mostly just (a) Open map (b) Find closest unexplored map icon (c) walk to that icon (d) do the repetitive task there. The random public quests can be fun sometimes but I've only done one of them where I actually got a worthwhile reward. To be honest, I don't see myself leveling a second character this way -- it just doesn't feel replayable. If I do another character (a big if, considering the design of the other classes), I think I'd level him through PvP entirely. For some reason I found WoW's PvE experience more replayable by a country mile. WoW had its share of "collect X shits and return it to me" but it also had some quests that required you to go somewhere and do something which seems pretty basic but, compared to GW2, seems to make a big difference. Besides the personal storyline, the Hearts in GW2 don't feel challenging or interesting at all. The fact that the Hearts are usually in a big open space rather than a dungeon makes it worse -- management of your personal space is virtually non-existent and if you accidentally aggro something the 10 other people in the same area will just come to your rescue (the lack of monster tagging is unexpectedly a double-edged sword). Also, you don't even tend to care where you are or where you're going... just make sure you don't stray out of the Heart zone. That was a long-winded way of saying I preferred WoW's method of assigning 3-5 quests in a nearby dungeon rather than GW2's method of wandering into zones featuring shallow and repetitive tasks which, oddly, seem to only rarely involve combat.

I think there's a non-trivial chance I get bored of the game before I hit 80. It's one of those games where while I'm playing the time in real life just flies by and, if I wasn't employed, I could play for the entire day straight... but while I'm at work, or wherever, I don't have any driving urge to get back into the game ASAP.

Your virtue of justice gives burning with every 5th attack, so condition damage isn't completely wasted. Once I hit lv 40, my build will have the following conditions with a greatsword:

Burning every 5th attack
Burning whenever an aegis I've created is removed
Burning + blind + weakness if VoJ is activated
VoJ refreshes whenever I kill an enemy
Blind + weakness when I leap at an enemy (skill #4 on greatsword)
AoE Burning from purging flames
AoE Burning from judges intervention
Weakness from Sigil of judgement
Vulnerability from standing in my symbol (Skill #2 on greatsword. One is also auto-created when my health hits 25%)

And +10% damage to burning enemies.

That's with 20 trait points in zeal and 20 trait points in radiance. Once I get the master trait book (that's lv 60 I think), another 5 ranks in radiance will make me do increased damage to enemies I've infliccted with a condition.

The build I'm running, affectionally dubbed Promethium Paladin: http://www.gw2build.com/builds/simu....171.170.177.0.0.0.0.0.0.216.0.0.30.30.0.0.10

Guild Wars Status, a post by ArenaNet:

This is the current status of the most important issues we're tracking with Guild Wars 2 live service.

Account security - We're seeing an uptick in reports of account theft and attempted account theft. We believe hackers are using databases of email addresses and passwords stolen from other games and web sites, and pre-existing trojan horses, to search for matching Guild Wars 2 accounts which they attempt to compromise. To prevent this, we have temporarily disabled the "reset password" feature, and we're working to bring email authentication online. To protect yourself, please ensure that you use a unique password for Guild Wars 2 that you don't use for any other game, email account, forum or web account.

Email authentication - Email authentication is a feature that notifies you if someone tries to log into your account from a location you've never logged in from before. Thus, even if someone guesses your game password, he can't log in unless he also guesses your email account password. You can make email authentication even more secure by using an email provider that supports two-factor authentication, such as Google[1] or Yahoo[2] , and taking advantage of that. We're currently preparing email authentication and intend to deploy it in a phased rollout, starting on Thursday, August 30.

Parties, guilds, etc. - Parties, guilds, and other social features are periodically failing. This causes issues such as party members not appearing on the map, and party members not staying in the same overflow servers as they travel between maps. This happens particularly during times of peak usage. We're working to fix related problems and mitigate this issue with each subsequent update.

Worlds - Many worlds are filling up. We're keeping the number of worlds constrained so that worlds stay well populated even after the initial surge of high concurrency. However, we will add worlds as necessary. As of Wednesday, August 30, all German language worlds are full and all French language worlds are at high usage, so we're adding two new German language worlds and one new French language world.

Overflow worlds - During this initial surge of high concurrency, and especially while many characters are low-level and thus playing in the same starting areas, it's common for players to be directed to overflow maps. If you want to play with a friend, but you’re not on the same overflow map, you can form a party together, then right-click on your friend's portrait in the party list and click "join". Note that this functionality is sometimes intermittently unavailable due to the "parties, guilds, etc." issues noted above.

Trading Post - We're working to bring the Trading Post back online. To help test, we've temporarily made it available to a random 15% of players, while we work to resolve remaining capacity constraints that will allow us to open it to everyone.
In-game mail - We detected a potential abuse of the in-game mail system and have temporarily disabled in-game mail to prevent any such abuse. We'll reenable it soon, hopefully in tonight's update.

Botting - We'll start substantial banning of bots on Wednesday, August 29. Since we're currently seeing widespread casual, unsophisticated botting, we will start with 72-hour bans for first offenses. In the coming days, as we address the casual botting problem, we plan to switch to our normal policy of permanently banning anyone who runs a bot.

Forums - Our most important priority at the moment is to ensure that the game runs stably and flawlessly. So as to not create additional demand on our infrastructure and on our programming team, we made the decision not to open the forums until the initial mass influx of players has calmed down a bit.

Next software updates - The next update of the game server and back-end server software will take place tonight at midnight Seattle time. The game may be unavailable for approximately 20-60 minutes while we perform the update. We expect this update to have fixes for email authentication and in-game mail. Our continued work on the Trading Post is not tied to game updates, so we will continue to test Trading Post updates throughout the day.

Seriously, fuck djinn. I think I loaded 40 or so items into the mystic forge and didn't get a single item out my profession could use. On top of tha tI tried tossing all my common dyes in to refine them and I got other commons back. not a single uncommon or rare. After seeing Zed getting green/gold items he could use I am quite upset with the Andhairas of Lions Arch :(

You mean if people use the same password as they did on their battle.net account, since all of those got compromised due to blizzards ineptitute when it comes to computer security in diablo 3?

So they still haven't addressed the horrible wading-thru-jello camera movement. Makes the game feel clumsy, and pretty unforgiveable to be this way at release.

Also I'm disappointed by how disconnected the combat feels. Warhammer Online all over again...

Tell me more about those chests in secret areas... I think I've only encountered two chest overall. First, after killing a huge swamp monster and second one in the kessex hills where a giant lives. Where are they in Lion's Arch?

How are you getting so many dyes that you can toss them into the Djinn? Through crafting?

A lot of companies could learn communication skills from ANet it seems, trying to get any meaningful info out of, say, Blizzard or Turbine has been a lovely exercise in futility.

And myeah, I hope there'll be changes to camera, especially in terms of FOV - it seems higher than before, but still not quite what I'm used to.

  1. one and the most annoying to get is in sharkmaw, the secret pirate dungeon with a secret pirate karma vendor in the south east corner of the map. you get there by jumping down a sharkmaw shaped dungeon entrance at the end of a top sekrit hidden entrance behind the mill. you should have been at the entrance if you 100%et LA since one of the vista points is right in front of it. the dungeon is really annoying to get through, though. not suited for farming
  2. second one is in the hidden ogre cave. the eastern-most waterfall has a small living space for a few ogres. at the back of it is a tunnel which leads to two dead ends, of which at least one is a disguised but overall easy and short jumping puzzle to the top, where there is a weapons cashe and the chest. easy to farm.
  3. last i found is in the northern veggie field... remember the vista at the top of a house near the entrance to undermarket? the one you have to run from the back of the houses on top of that mountain tongue then jump on the roof? if you run on that tongue in the opposite direction from the roof, you'll come to a plateau with a raised area that has a veggie garden with some high level veggies and a chest on a pillar. the proper way to get there is very long and very annoying and involves jumping down from the walkway at the middle of city vista point (the walkway that has stylized waves made out of fabric sheets hung next to it) into a virtually invisible and very narrow well, swim to a secret cave, and then do a jumping puzzle that will get you out at the veggie garden. the easy way involves getting the rocket rifle with the second dialogue option, porting near to undermarket, go to the plateau, then jump on the raised rocks near the eastern back wall, and use the rocket rifle to jump up said wall, which will land you at the exit of the jumping puzzle from the other side.

there is also a flavor area you can reach from said walkway, when you reach the giant tentacle and instead of continuing to the vista/well jump on it and get up.. there's an annoying brat there with conversation skill options, but i guess mine are still too low.
there might also be an area in undermarket, as there seems to be some sort of balcony on the western side of the cave.

In Lions Arch I found one in Postern Ward, the chest doesnt give great items and it can be easy to get there with teleportation rifle. In Queensdale I found three chests, one in unmarked wolf cave (which is near Altar Brook Vale teleport), another in Orlaf Escarpments and in Beggars Burrow where is a majestic chest that gives three magic items.
