I have the Platinum Edition (it was $10 off Newegg, YEAH) so I have Prophecies and EotN. I'd have to grind through Prophecies to play EotN though, right? Lemme see if there are any cheap boxes of Nightfall...

If you're normally a PVPer PVE won't pose any challenge for quite some time. Elite dungeons/areas and lategame missions are probably the only interesting things to do. And Prophesies is probably the worst in that regard. Easy for a noob to get into, but lacking most of the high-level challenge. It's also the slowest to level up in...Your best bet will be getting to Grenth's Footprint or the Eye or the North areas. Haven't played those yet either. The UK import hasn't arrived yet.
I'm playing through some of the Torment (Nightfall) quests at the moment. They tie an arm behind your back, and I still don't find them particularly hard (although I ignored the Master ones for now). If you're experienced/have some good skills under your belt lots of the stuff that seemed hard before, becomes a breeze. Heroes and un-nerfing necroes helped a lot, too.

Honestly, the Elite areas in Nightfall are all about builds. That in hand, Ventrilo or TS, and a reasonably intelligent team, and anyone can get through them.

Of course, some people like the challenge of not peeking at the builds that automatically work and such, but pfeh. That's so last century.

So I guess you need to party up with people to get the most out of Guild Wars 1 PVE. Meh, I'm too lazy, I wanted to just solo and have an interesting experience.

The competitive missions in Factions seems pretty cool though.

I suppose the fact that the Elite missions are meant to be the hardest thing in the game to accomplish shouldn't be an excuse to make them require preparation.

So does Prophecies get better, or are the other campaigns worth a look at?

I would say Prophecies does get better somewhere around Kryta, but the most varied campaign is Nightfall, I guess. Factions has various ups and downs.

Dito. And with the introduction of heroes it worked far better than pugs.

Depends. Gameplay wise and for variety I'd say the others. Personally I liked Nightfall best. But Prophesies is probably the best from an RPG-advancement pov. You level slower and it takes long to get good equipment. On the other hand most is easy enough to get by with sub-par equipment and skillz0rs.

Another question for Annie: Are there heroes in GW2? The Hall of Monuments seems to suggest that there will be while from what I've heard and seen the game doesn't seem to lend itself to heroes.

Also, Annie, if you can convince us that there will still be many different viable skill builds despite the first 5 slots being static, that would be great.

Also, while it's cool the positioning is important, the game isn't TOO twitch-based, is it?

Art direction was best in Factions. The cityscape was easily the best I have ever seen in a video game. However, actually, all of the GW games had really good worlds and quests. PvP was exceptionally fun (buffer/healer ritualist, shadow prison assassin, fire arrow ranger etc. builds were fun to make) too. I never understood why the games didn't get more attention.

Well, that's pretty much why I am looking towards GW2. I hope they don't really reduce the number of skills one can acquire. If so, the game is going to suck hard.

Eh, I'd say the art direction was best in Prophecies.

Factions was, again, full of ups and downs. Shing Jea looked pretty neat for a 'safe haven' type of island. But then you get Kaineng, which is like one giant cliche Chinese slum, not to mention how horribly irritating is the map design there, with the labirynthine city layout. Who the fuck lives in such a city?! Then there's Echovald forest, which is full of emogoth Kurzicks, and the whole forest can lead to severe depression with the constant greyness. The Jade Sea area is again cool, though. Sailors turning nomads on a stilled sea was done pretty well.

I thought Kaineng was really, really cool. The city looked fucking fantastic. I think it was due to that 2D-3D mix of graphics (I never understood the engine, is it really 2D-3D mix with 2D pictures rotated in ingenius ways, or was it something else), as well as the hardest quests in the entire game. The city layout felt realistic too.

Shit, I just tried to log in again and they seem to have introduced some strange system which wants you to enter one of your characters' names. Hell, I guess I will never be able to play it. Is there anyone out here who would give their account for some time? I just want it for nostalgia, trying PvP again etc.

LOL, you say you can't remember any of your character's names? Just send the support team a mail. I'm sure they'll help you.

Otherwise you can try:

Char Name: Not In This Lifetime

I don't really play between 22:00 and 9:00 CET.

Anyway, DR, I failed Last Day Dawns and and we didn't rezz. The "return to outpost"-button (that we also had in Defend North Kryta Province) just stayed on screen. So I'm quite sure they fixed that exploit. How long ago did you play it?

It worked only in Defend North Kryta. Last Day Dawns was not bugged. And I did that like... a year ago? Not quite sure.

-- What are all the 25-digit retail access keys currently registered to your Guild Wars game account? (Please include the retail access keys from each campaign.)
-- What are the last 4 digits of the credit/debit card used to make any purchases for your account from the Guild Wars In-Game Store/NCsoft Store online? If you instead made purchases using PayPal®, what is the Transaction ID or the Invoice ID associated with the Guild Wars In-Game Store/NCsoft Store purchase? (if applicable)

This was their answer. I don't have the boxes, and every information I gave them were lies anyway. This was 5 years ago, and the email my account is tied to is now hacked. Hell, I was just asking if there was someone who stopped playing long ago. It's not as if I can steal their account.

Lesson for the future. Set up an alternative internet persona whose data you write down and use solely for "registration" purposes.

John Doe McCool, London resident. 99 years old, born on Feb, 29th. OldsCool Street 99. Zip code 666. Telephone number: some London restaurant. Coupled with some free e-mail account used solely for those purposes.
Or something along those lines. I look up street names and Zip codes to check out as real if they're ever checked (which I doubt is done).

I just saw this on Gw2guru:

Well I tell this out of DEMO experiences:

There was this town in Ascalon where the ogres were attacking it.
I watched and sat down seeing the ogres slay the inhabitants.
When they were done the outpost became an ogre outpost and the event changed to "recapture ....". I then proceeded in the outpost and slayed the ogres and rezzed all inhabitants, thus i completed the event

...

Good question! The waypoint was NOT destroyed, BUT the waypoint wasnt in the outpost, it was outside the outpost.

The shopkeeper, merchant and swordsellers were indeed dead and thus their service was available But like I said i rezzed them and after the event was completed, could merch with them

Could this be the first MMORPG that will manage to hold my interest? Everything I've heard sounds quite promising, plus the 'no subscription' thing is a big draw.

Bwaaaaaaaaaaaargh sorry about the lack of replies, still recovering from GamesCom and now PAX hits and handling Dead State stuff OW MY BRAIN

HEROES! GW2 doesn't have 'em. We were considering them early on, but they got tossed out because of various reasons.

VARIATION IN SKILL BUILDS: Mos def. Just because your first 5 skills change based on what weapon you're holding doesn't count out your Utility Skills (which you can slot with skills you want) and your Traits. It's fun-time-tasty-swaptimes!

POSITIONING: No, it's not too twichy. It rewards you if you pay attention, and it helps in combat, but it doesn't kill your face off in total failness if you don't take full advantage of it. It's like getting a cupcake if you take advantage of it, not like getting kicked in the bojangles if you don't.

...Hey guys BTW if you're going to be at PAX, I'll be there! GO TO MY PANELS ON FRIDAY. That is what you must do. Then go to the booth and say hi to me on Saturday and Sunday! Apparently I have also been recruited for press stuff, which means more pictures and video of me OH NOES I AM UNSURE HOW I FEEL ABOUT THAT. (And probably I should not be reminding the Codex of that, but I figure you'll find it anyway)

Just make sure they get your boobs into the picture for this murder of interviews. Last one was quite disappointing if I may be so frank. What's an interview without birdies? :M
Now get some sleep, Annie.

Make sure to let us know when there's more info on skills, stats and traits.

I'm pretty glad that there won't be heroes anymore (sort of, I kinda liked Eotn's heroes). Btw there will most likely be a codex guild, so I don't really know why it's such a big fuss for you Roxx.

And that's it? The first 5 skills will be the same based on the weapon you're holding and you can't change them? That's half of the skill-bar if my math is correct.
