I hope it is either Arcanum or Planescape. Another two years of nerdrage, drama, and hate in the Codex would be amazing entertainment, regardless of how good or bad the game ends up being.

Well... The generic fantasy is ES, post-apo - Fallout, so it surely won't be anything like that. Sci-Fi , steampunk or real world with a twist setting. Of course it is only valid if it's an RPG.

Oh God!

It's like we're stuck in a cave huddled around a fire and we have to choose who to sacrifice to the horrible beast that lumbers outside.

I can't imagine Arcanum or Planescape getting thrown out.
I can totally see the Planescape just picking up a wicked-looking mace and walking out on it's own, though.

It's not Arcanum. It can't be; Arcanum's too obscure. Somebody of Todd's stature probably never even played it. They all loved Fallout apparently -- that's no secret -- but simply not that many people played Arcanum.

I bet it's System Shock 3. It's already first-person, the game and the horror/sci-fi genre was recently brought back into the spotlight by BioShock (horrid as it was) so it's a perfect fit for them.

The Star Trek one, maybe, but I think that's too generic for them.

Besides, can you imagine Spock rendered in Gamebryo? *shudder*

Z jednej strony naiwna i idealistyczna część mnie krzyczy Planescape: Torment! Z drugiej ta realistyczna wrzeszczy NIE! Nie chcę Obliviona w Sigil!

Text is all garbled if I follow the link, it must be encrypted some how.

You do realize Bethsoft currently have the Star Trek license?

A lot of the names thrown in are not going to happen because they are owned by someone ... Vampire:The Masquerade is owned by White Wolf, Planescape Torment is owned by WotC, the Quest series is owned by Vivaldi, Ultima is owned by EA ...

Yes, absolutely. What I meant is that it (the franchise) may be too played out and cliché for them right now. They want to make another big splash, yet another ST game wouldn't get it done, IMO.

Still, there is a new Trek movie coming out soon...

Can't be Planescape. Wizards of the Coast owns the setting, and they REALLY don't seem interested in reviving fuckall that isn't Greyhawk, Forgotten Realms, or Eberron.

Also doubt Arcanum, as likely Tim Cain & co own the rights, and I have a feeling they wouldn't be inclined to let them go. ALSO, we may dig it, but it wasn't a mass-market hit, so they likely wouldn't go sniffing after it.

Same with VtM:B - White Wolf owns it, wasn't mass-market hit, and the Eve guys are already making a World of Darkness MMO. No dice.

Ultima is probably a more likely bet. Bethesda has the power to do their own publishing, but it could be possible EA's focusing on them for a revitalization of the series. POSSIBLE. It could be just as likely they snap up something that's languished a little longer and they can create and publish without having another company involved.

At any rate, don't get scared until you see screenshots ::wry smirk:: That's what I think.

Here instead of playing an RPG.
A Star Trek game would be fine. It would be easy to not care about yet another craptastic Star Trek game for the pile of craptastic Star Trek games.

I forgot about that. That's an MMO I might play, actually, mainly because I really <3 WoD. I didn't like EVE Online, but separately from my personal taste it seemed like decent work.

hope they will not rape Might and Magic series, there is everything they need... elves, orcs, laser rifles, so they can just simply reuse textures from oblivion and fallout 3

One franchise I'd love to see revived by damn near any real studio would be the Starflight series.

(Yes, I know about the indie effort making a Starflight 3... just thinking of what a genuine big studio could do with it).

The question is, could they come up with as creative and interesting a plot as the first two games did. I know, I know, their previous efforts don't make that likely... but really, the first two games established a pattern of storytelling and a big "twist" at the end that I don't think it'd be hard to emulate with just -one- decent writer with a good idea at the helm.

Although I haven't played it, I'm told that of any game in the last few years, Mass Effect probably comes closest to capturing the sense of the old Starflight games. I'll have to give it a try sometime.

Might & Magic has already been raped to hell and back. 3d first, two terrible installments second, action/adventure and FPS spinoffs third. If bethsoft would do it a proper way (i.e. a party and tb combat), it could very well own all M&M past World of Xeen, and with absolutely certainty would own 8-9. And if they would do another Oblivion, well, it couldn't be any worse RPG than Dark Messiah already was (yes, I know shooter fans believe it is a very good game, but we're talking of an *RPG* franchise here).

I'd personally love if they would pick PST. It will make the Codex tremendously entertaining for years to come, universe knows nothing of shitstorms of such immense massivity. Too bad it isn't going to happen as Planescape setting is dead, buried and not gonna to ever come back. But there is a theoretical chance on Arcanum. That's going to be shitstormtastic too!

One thing I actually wouldn't mind seeing is a revamp of the Eye of the Beholder series. It'd be nice in particular if they could make the guys in the rear of the party DO DAMAGE WORTH A DAMN. I mean, sure, that's where I put my cleric/mage/thief and my wizard, but STILL, some extra damage up front would be nice instead of just having to throw ROCKS THAT I FOUND.

Keep that in mind, Bethesda! ;)
