It's one of the weirdest games I can think of to try and turn into a franchise - even some of the SS2 fans in this thread seemed to agree that, whatever strengths SS2 might have as a standalone game, being a good sequel to SS1 isn't one of them.

The entire story of System Shock starts and ends in SS1, there isn't any way I can see to make a sequel or prequel or spinoff that makes any amount of sense and doesn't suck balls from a writing standpoint. You can't bring SHODAN back without enormously cheapening it (especially if you're a hack like Levine who writes a totally different, profoundly uninteresting character and just calls it SHODAN).

I guess Nightdive might be cognisant of that if they want a prequel set inside the story of SS1, but who wants to play as some doomed losers who are necessarily going to fail at their mission, and whose story we already know? Strange idea.

Well, doesn't it say somewhere in SS1 (or maybe that was only in the remake, I just played both back to back) that 98% of the lifepods on citadel station have already been launched? It's not strictly necessary that whatever laptopguy squad manager or group of survivors you play as during an interquel between the intro and gameplay of System Shock 1 are ones that were killed.

Either this level division is off, or the outside view doesn't match where the levels are.

When I look out the windows in Medical, I should be looking at the bottom of those lower pylons. Instead I'm seeing the top of them, and the groves above me, like I was looking out the window of Maintenance/Storage.

stephen kick mentioned that he wanted there to be a fucking telltale game set before system shock 1 in this article:
According to Kick, potential publishers at the time included Starbreeze Entertainment (the publisher originally slated to release Otherside Entertainment's System Shock 3) and Telltale Games, who shut down unexpectedly just weeks after talks began.

"That felt like a gut punch," Kick tells Time Extension, "Because we really loved the people over there and we loved the games that we did and there was some talk about, ‘Oh, if we do System Shock with you guys, maybe you can do an adventure game that explores what happens before SHODAN took over.’ So, there were a lot of interesting, collaborative possibilities in that instance as well. But yeah, we spent months just travelling to different studios and pitching the game that we had, and for lack of a better word, they all said ‘No’."
looking forward to the remake selling enough copies so we can get a WACKY anime shodan dating sim spinoff in another 7 years from now

I thought the IP was owned by Tencent now anyways. Or do they just own the rights to "System Shock 3"?

I'm gonna go ahead and say that the tactical game concept sounds p cool. The game, if it ever got done, wouldn't be, of course.

Bit of a shame, really, same as with that nignog league or whatever from the shadowrun devs. These people can stumble on a decent idea from time to time (probably just copy it from somewhere), but you just know that the skill to shape a good idea into a good game ain't there.

Finished the remake. Think they did an alright job, although the game didn't need recycling as a mechanic and the lack of meaningful music hurts the fun factor for me.

Too tired of wandering through the maze

I'm a kind of a guy who appreciate winding tunnels and twisting maps, such as Soul series and The Surge, but this is beyond my tolerance.
The most blatant flaw on this design is the lack of clear objective.
You have no idea what to do, or look for. And All the map being circular does not help the matters.

If you need the help of youtube to find your, not secrets nor side mission, but main objective, I think this game is very bad with level design.
This is the human disaster that happen after almost 30 years of bad gaming.

One detail I noticed: This robot spawns into the hallway to the right of the elevator in Reactor after you've fired the Mining Laser.

Note the ID-text at the top. When looted, I got a single round for the Railgun.

The original did not have Sec-3 robots, and the manual for the remake doesn't mention them either.

Anyway, I restarted my playthrough to incorporate some mods. Much-needed mods, as it turns out.

I also adjusted the visual settings, turning them up slowly as the older hardware might suffer a meltdown.

One of the mods removes a red tint that's prevalent in the lighting, so Citadel station looks proper dark now. I actually have to use the head lantern now.

The recycler-related mods are a Godsend. Instead of recycling a whole batch that nets me around 4-6 credits, I'm getting ~30 credits per batch.

"Parody" dating sims are some of the most successful spin-offs nowadays, so I wouldn't even be shocked (heh).
I would buy it for a dollar.

My God, what kind of potato are you playing this on?

Is that because you're recylcing more with each batch or because it's increasing the payout for the same amount?

To be honest i've never been a fan of this techno shit.

I actually played SS2 and even Half Life without music because i found it too intrusive and obnoxious. Don't remember much from System Shock 1, played it around the same time i played Doom which feels like millions of years ago i should revisit it one of this days.
