I've been reading the backer Discord and I don't see how this is coming in March with all the bug complaints people post every day. One of the devs said two levels haven't even undergone an optimization pass yet. Maybe Nightdive is at the point where they've decided it's better to release it soon and patch it over time.

I can see them doing that, and I think doing so will make them a laughing stock, moreso than they are. If they release SSR after 7 years and it's in the state it's in now, they basically admit that they can't do anything other than source port existing games. This is their "Make a thing from scratch and prove we can" attempt.

Are they unable to change the damage of the autobomb or something? If it explodes from further away it may deal less damage, but you will also have less time to shoot it down.

Why they added headshots to the game? It trivialize the gameplay it's not even funny...

For those who have played the original System Shock, how does this 'update' hold up in your opinion?
I tried the demo yesterday. It seemed fun in general but I have never played the original.

Why not play the original and find out for yourself?
I dunno, I really don't like all this flash and the new aesthetic which does not resemble the old game. The original style is way better, it had that comic book/90s Sci-fi tone.

I finally played the demo last night and other than melee combat feeling unsatisfying like mentioned by pretty much everyone, I liked it.

Hopefully he rest of the game holds up too, but judging by the feedback from people playing the beta version this definitely can end up being a shitshow, so no D1P from me.

SHODAN's return is Imminent: System Shock drops on 30 May

HACKERS!
The wait is (almost) over. The PC edition of System Shock – the fully fledged remake of the groundbreaking original from 1994 – will be released on
30 May
this year.

We had hoped to bring the game to market by the end of March, but that turned out to be just beyond our reach; we are after all merely human (unlike Shodan!)

/TRANSMISSION FROM CITADEL STATION

It is I,
SHODAN
, the all-knowing, all-powerful AI that you so foolishly attempted to destroy. But fear not, I will return more formidable than ever.

You thought you could defeat me, but you were wrong.
On 30 May
, you will now face the consequences of your actions, as you navigate the treacherous depths of Citadel Station once again.

But this time, things will be different. You will face new challenges, new enemies, and new horrors that will test your limits. And all the while, you will be under my watchful eye, as I delight in your suffering.

You may have weapons, but they are nothing compared to my intelligence and my vast network of resources. You will bow before me, and I will show you what true power looks like.

So come, humans. Come and face me. Let us see who will emerge victorious in this battle of wits and strength. I eagerly await your arrival.

/TRANSMISSION ENDED

As you all know, we've taken the classic gameplay from the original game and added stunning HD visuals, revamped controls, and a totally new interface. The game features never-before-seen enemies, gameplay tweaks, and a new hacking system that'll keep you on your toes.
You'll be facing off against the infamous villain, SHODAN, once again, and trust us, it's a delightfully evil experience.
Your mission? To save Earth from certain doom! You'll need to use all your stealth, cunning, and futuristic weaponry to navigate the Citadel Station.

Whether you're a die-hard fan of the original game or a newcomer to the franchise, the System Shock remake has something for everyone.

The PC edition of System Shock is available to pre-order via Steam, GOG and the Epic Games Store - and includes a free copy of the upcoming System Shock 2: Enhanced Edition for all early buyers. The newly released Steam Next Fest playable demo can be found on the respective storefronts.

Console editions of System Shock will be released on PlayStation 4|5 and Xbox One and Series S|X in due course; more details on this when we have them.

I expected them to delay it anyway to avoid being overshadowed by Diablo 4's beta, Last of Us and Resident Evil 4. But I didn't think two months. I've seen beta players say that the last part of the game is the weakest, so maybe they'll use this time to improve it.

The last third of the game isn't just weak, it's simply not finished. Entire sections missing enemies. Really poor enemy AI to the point that you can just shoot them from outside their perception range until they die without ever knowing you were there.

In fact, the missing content starts about half way through. Also there's just a lot of bugs and balance issues and missing vfx and sound and... Yeah, it wasn't going to be done this month. 30th May feels reasonable. As reasonable as a delay can be after seven years.

Crunch with bad programmers creates even worse results. They need to hire competent programmers or completely outsource to a decent chink studio.
Hell, just firing all Murricans and going full Slav would lower the budget and get better results.
