The color palette of this game reminds me a lot of Skyrim. Aesthetically it makes me think of like a Skyrim looking Death Stranding take. Much better looking characters models than anything they've done before though.

Interested to see how this game handles vehicles given Todd Howard said in some interview I remember seeing posted here that the whole reason Fallout never had cars is their engine couldn't handle them. Pretty sure they have to cheat the movement of aircraft in the Fallout games. Guessing they spent the time working that out for this game, or things are going to get goofy.

They could handle it in a weird way, look at F3 railway cars being adapted in-engine horses.

That autistic New Vegas modder, Xilandro, proved that you can actually have functional land and air vehicles in the engine. Frontier featured actually drivable vehicles with physics and different handling, and he's been posting videos of a mod that lets you fly around New Vegas in a plane.

Will Starfield feature drivable land vehicles?

I don't think people are aware of the size, weight and cost of the batteries required for weapon grade lasers/plasma.

This is a game. Also instead of gunpowder which has like 4MJ/kg of stored energy [gasoline has 35MJ/kg], we could use liquid gases/oxidant combo like supercritical oxygen combined with supercritical methane to achieve much higher energy densities. In the end ballistic weapons have many advantages over lasers, and vice versa -lasers are very poor at penetrating[ablation reflection effect], but achieve target near instantaneously.

Don't get me wrong, I like and want weapon variety. And I don't mind if they aren't realistically balanced. As Josh Sawyer said in a recent lecture, he made quarterstaves and greatswords have the same damage, because he wants people to use quarterstaves too. In general, I like the stereotype of the shotgun being a close range weapon that spreads into a thin mist before it reaches the next room, even if its unrealistic, because it makes for good gameplay. It plays different from a rifle.
However, in this more realistic, more grounded (someone wrote NASApunk lel) setting, I fully expect to be seeing mostly ballistic weapons.

That doesn't make me want to use quarterstaves though. That's just lazy.

Providing benefits for not killing people, concussive damage, ability to pass your weapon off as a cane(how would you react to someone wielding a greatsword vs someone leaning on an ornate staff while faking a limp?), etc., is what I'd want to see.

Balancing should come organically from the purposed role of weapon, instead of just flat out equalizing damage to encourage players to use the weapons. Taken to absurd levels with lazy balancing you could give mace and dagger same damage, instead of making enemies that are more prone to piercing damage and crushing damage and giving each weapons their role.

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
As countless others have said, the game looks like complete shit.

- Gameplay looks like it's running at about 20-30 FPS. How the fuck could any company look at this and think "Mmm, yeah, looks good to me" and release it out to the public.

- Bullet sponge gunplay with no difficulty tied to it outside of arbitrarily higher numbers. Easily exploitable.

- Looking at the footage, it's clear that the AI is as shit as ever, and no improvements have been made in that regard.

- Bland and uninspired art direction and palette. Despite the fact that we're in space, the planets and stars and nebulae in the distance look so unimpressive and lacking. The planet looked like a total wasteland, and while the environments shown at the end were more promising, I have zero faith in Bethesda's ability to maintain any semblance of uniquness with the tens of procedurally generated worlds that they're littering everywhere. Not to mention the fact, even if the planets manage to be cool in some magical, best-case scenario, what the fuck about them will be interesting?

- Bethesda writing :D.

- Voice acting and decline dialogue systems.

- The ship combat looks super mediocre. Everything moves so slowly and I can't imagine it being much more difficult than keep your reticle on the ship while following it/strafing around.

If you had any expectations for a Bethesda game being anything but shit, that's on you for being a dumbass. What pisses me off is the amount of Codexer's that are actually expressing excitement and a willingness to play this putrid abomination. Also, for the love of god, stop trying to make shooters and RPGs work. The things that make an FPS good are the exact opposite of what make an RPG good. While a skilled developer with a vision could MAYBE, and I stress MAYBE make it work, we're in short supply of those nowadays.

On the internet, writing shit posts.
I hope the only crime the pirates in this game committed, was pirating some movies over the cyberweb.
Nah, pirating Bethesda games.

Everyone here will play this, there is no denying of that. About 3/4 of the ones complaining how shit this game is will have 100+ hours scored.
How else are to we know it's shit though? :D
I have 100 hours of Fallout 4. I have determined that it was, in fact, mediocre. 0/10, will play again (with a shitload of overhaul mods. Fallout New London looks interesting).

It's nuts and just as silly as the notion that hand to hand combat will become obsolete at any time in the future.
Or that ground forces will be obsolete and you can just orbital bombard your way to victory, as if space civs wouldn't have developed countermeasures to prevent exactly that. I mean, having a fleet in orbit would still give a huge tactical advantage, much like air support or artillery, but it will still have limitations and won't be an instant "I win" button.
Airstrikes and Napalm didn't wipe out the Vietkong, now did they?

This. Mass Effect Andromeda approach is much better. Give dozen of planets, but make them unique with artist touch. The approach they took is fine for mindless resource gathering MMO blobber-loot shooter[would be semi fine if it was at least challenging like elden ring], instead of a unique role playing experience. Sandbox can be good with their emerging gameplay, only and only if you provide an elaborate multiplayer experience like EVE Online instead of barely working singleplayer AI. Knowing bethesda they will deliver neither of these.

One thing I haven't seen mentioned. If the facial animations are as good in-game as in the demo video maybe I'll stop reading the subtitles and look at the NPCs. I wonder if it's their own in house engine or some third party kit... and if it's open to modding.

Most likely not. Bethesda has been doing everything to prevent the creation of sex mods for their games ever since Oblivion came out and I doubt Starfield will be the game where they realize that well over 50% of their playerbase is here only because of those sex mods. Just for example all the highest rated mod collections on nexus for Skyrim SE are sex mod collections.

And its not like its not justified because ultimately those sex mods at least add something that actually changes how the game works. As opposed to the "mega-giga version 21.53.6-premium-patreon-exclusive" whatever overhaul that usually fails to change or add anything of substance and requires another 20 mods on top to even be noticeable.
