Man, this thing looks like shit. Bethesda game stading on procedural generation? That sounds like the worst possible combination anyone could envision.

The leaks that Infinitron / Child of Malkav referenced earlier though do make me wonder what "Procedural" means here.

-procedual tech used between locations, now works and looks much better than in any of the previous games. you sometimes wont even notice it. theres radiant AI stuff now built into this aswell as other stuff. its no longer just a "brush tool" to paint areas, it can do much more. Sadly wont be part of CK

Bethesda has long been doing procedural level design outside of CK.. And the idea of having a palette tool that doesn't just paint terraform / prefabs to the terrain but also quest locations / resources / points of interest / etc.. Frankly horrifies me.

How much of this game is going to be an Array of input tables that get jumbled up in a "monkey barrel" co-routine and spit out as painted parameters across these worlds..

Finding anything hand crafted with actual nuance is gonna be a needle-in-the-haystack chore for players. You will be conditioned very quickly to when the game is using some generic bullshit for it's quest setup vs something that took a human being to write. (Low bar still for Bethesda - I know)

Todd has mentioned that they are trying to move back to their previous ideas, and that there are things he personally wanted to do that were done before. Now, everyone expects Bethesda to do Skyrim 2 in space. Little do they know Todd Howard has pulled a fast one on everyone and intends to do Daggerfall 2 in space instead. Improved procedular generation? Buying houses and bank loans? Gigantic world? Daggerfall's spiritual successor rises. The Era of True Incline is upon us.

will be procedurally generated, and thus, they'll have to create countless systems of randomization and thousands of assets for the systems to use to create a variety of scenery for the player to discover, which i Highly doubt they'll do so
That's some fabulous optimism. If they had such a system in place they would have shown it. My bet is that 99,9% of those planets are going to be barren rocks (so realistic!) with a few outposts for the radiant quests.

Lack of anything worthwhile or stunning, while i understand that you don't necessarily have to create something stunning or revolutionary to be good, but as i said, this is only stunning if you have no standards at all, or if you haven't played any games besides bethesdas'.
Problem is, everything they've shown has already been present on the market for years. NMS and Elite have been around for a long time and Bethesda feels hopelessly late to the party.

What exactly does Starfield offer that NMS doesn't? Shitty Bethesda writing and quest design?

Also, how exactly is the engine supposed to handle such massive draw distances? I mean, will I be able to jump to orbit around a planet, then go down into the atmosphere, fly around the planet and then land wherever I want? Or is the game going to be full of loading screens that mask dropping you on small, randomly generated maps?

Fair enough, i wasn't saying they were gonna do that, cause i've played an autistic amount of hours of FO4 and skyrimSE, and i know they'll be too lazy to add anything worthwhile to explore or find.
again, it's the same people who made an entire "faction" the minutemen, who's entire quests revolve around radiant quests, and only like, 3 or 2 quests that are actually hand-made.

What's the time code for this? Were they crouched?

I was really curious about this..

I see 5 skill trees, none of them stealth related..
I see them Crouching in the demo but it seems the pirates saw them anyways and I didn't see any indicator that they were "in stealth"

There's no way they had the balls to remove this as a mechanic - right?
If so - I can't wait to see the feedback from normies if this game has no stealth system.

Was just thinking, how does one sneak in a space suit? Then again, you can technically sneak in Power Armour, so...

P.S. Actually, you know what? They'll probably implement it as a tech thing, like the Stealth Boy. Whether it's a skill or an item or whatnot, dunno, but I imagine they'll just do some sort of opticamo to contextualise it.

Sneaking in a space suit...!? How the fuck do you pick pocket people in spacesuits?

You are fighting pirates on a world where you can only survive inside a pressurized, anti-radiation, heat moderating space suit.. But still everyone has regular pant pockets full of digital-only currencies and space-lint, I guess...?

Eh, I can buy it. If the setting has people routinely doing stuff in a space suit, it'd make sense they'd have some form of external storage, whether it's pockets or a utility belt or a fanny pack, you gotta put your spaceship keys somewhere. Besides, you notice the "digital lockpick" minigame? Like I said, we all know what we're signing up for here.

I never leave my spaceship without my fanny pack.
Nobody uses keys though, it's established you open doors with your apple watch.

What are you talking about? Overly colorful games have become the norm, a more toned down palette stands out.
Average game looks like rainbow vomit now, just look at outer worlds.
Those aren't the only two options. I hate contemporary candy puke aesthetics with a passion, so Starfield was one of the few breaths of fresh air in Microsoft's ridiculous presentation, but it just didn't put across a strong visual identity regardless. Like, for a great "space setting" off the top of my head, look at Alien: Isolation for an example - supreme art direction and not a single balls-tripping shade in sight, would kill a zoomer dead in six minutes due to lack of sensory stimulation.

Game takes place like 288 years from now. Have you seen those spacesuits Dava Newman has been working on for like the last decade at MIT? They look less like big bulky modern spacesuits and more like pulpy sci-fi spacesuits from the 1920s - 1950s. I could imagine someone being able to sneak around in something like that.

Some of the spacesuits they're showing in the trailer, especially compared to the concept art, seem needlessly bulky for taking place almost 300 years from now.

Fuck, imagine if they'd gone full Raygun Gothic for this, it would probably be interesting.

Thr problem with "NASA-punk" is it raises too many questions. Are these spacesuits also ballistic vests? I saw an O2 meter, or at least I saw the words "O2" on the HUD, can I run out of air? Will I run out faster if shot?

I guess that these suits are so bulky because they're armoured, to handwave away why people don't just die to a single bullet breach.

- classic dialogue system with a non-voiced protagonist
- character origins, traits, perks, reputation system, banking (!) system where you can take mortgages to buy property
- proc-gen and space simulation in a AAA-game
- zero G combat
- not a single dangerhair in the 15 minute long trailer
- lead quest designer is that dude who made Fallout Far Harbor, one of the best pieces of content in the series
- CDPR designes a main quest where you character has an incurable condition and is doomed to die, and then they say "go ahead and have fun in our open world". Meanwhile Bethesda designes a main quest where you are a space explorer, and you must explore space to find pieces of ancient artifact.

Based Todd did it again, God bless him. GOTY 2023.

There is more stuff from interviews:

- MC will not be voiced.
- Your background decides where you start in galaxy.
- Some of the traits are "weird" in good way. For example there is trait that has "your parents are alive". You presumably start in house with your parents which will benefit you somehow but you take 10% cut to every pay as you send it to them.
- One of starts give you a house but also a mortgage to pay off.

Looking at interviews and trailers i have to say i am interested. Seems to be more sandboxy aproach to betsheda RPG than something like Skyrim and Fallout3/4.

This is exactly what i was talking about in F4 thread way back at release. If Betsheda could focus on sandbox rather than "cinematic" quests which they suck at their games would be much more fun. Fallout 4 works if you don't meet any NPC as a sandbox especially with base building. Obviously it is not what Fallout fans wanted but hey i'd rather take sandbox over abortion of story and npcs that is in F4.

Starfield also seems like perfect game for modders considering shitload of space to create stuff.

The impact of such systems wholly depends on world reactivity. What's the point of a character origin if all it does is give you a measly percentage modifier and an off-hand comment by a voiced NPC at the start of the game?

Is the gameworld going to be reactive enough to have reputation matter? Will you be locked out of content or unlock other content if your reputation is high/low enough? Will this system be any more involved than factions sending assassination squads after you?

What reason is there to take out a loan if the economy is broken and you're going to be swimming in money and resources like in every other Bethesda game to date?

Plenty of ugly niggers though.

While Far Harbor was at least marginally more involved than the usual Bethesda fare, it was still well below the quality of well-written cRPGs with interesting quests. Also, didn't Bethesda steal a lot of ideas for the DLC from that New Vegas mod?

Starfield also seems like perfect game for modders considering shitload of space to create stuff.
Depends if Bethesda decided to walk back on them locking down modding, since FO4 modding was far more limited than what yo could do in previous games, and FO76 has no modding at all.

Guys i love troons now.

Because of troons insanity with pronouns they can't use anymore voiced MC because then they would have to do voices for every insanity out there. Like xir them shit fairy ghost and other garbage.

nah.
The "stolen idea" was a minor sidequest in a vault with robobrains. This sidequest have nothing to do with Far Harbor's main plot.
