I love building bases and hiring NPCs to staff them. Looking forward to exploring this feature. Hopefully there will be gameplay reasons to visit them, base defense gameplay etc. and not sheerly look at this pretty thing I made.
I don't personally hate base building, even enjoy it at times, but I know such strongly developed feature as was shown in the gameplay means that we will be forced to use it. Forcing player to build settlements in Open World CRPG should be a crime. I thought they've learned better than this after F4, but it seems they are doubling down. Shame.

Thoughts as I watched the video:

  • Bland art direction.
  • Tedious busywork of mining rocks
  • Bland, non-diagetic HUD
  • Generic overorchestrated soundtrack
  • Murderhobo simulator
  • HP bars rather than bodyparts
  • Generic collect the alien artifacts plot
  • Bland skill system "rifle does 20% more damage" perks

As much as I rag on Star Citizen, SC is more fun than this game looks. At least this game is singleplayer, though, so you don't need an internet connection and you can mod it and play at will.

Building your own outposts could be cool, though.

How much spaceship customization is there? Okay that's an improvement on SC.

Can you seemlessly go from ground to orbit like in SC? Or is this like Freelancer where the planet locations are seperate zones and there is a loading screen going into space?

Okay they're going for SC scope. Will the planets have more going on them than SC planets? Could Bethseda have really handcrafted the millions of square miles of land in the game with meaningful stuff to do? Or is there a similar level of copy-pasting and random generation?

Final thoughts: Hm. Not sold on the game. We'll see. I think I'd need to watch GopherVids getting his hands on the game for a few hours to formulate a better opinion.
"Bland" is the overall takeaway. I kept waiting for a twist, but there was nothing.

So, picking a character background apparently seems one of the "hardcore RPG options" teased prior.

I'm sure players will spend literally hours pondering whether to start with a brutal +10% bonus to pistol damage or a game forever altering 5-10% price change of in-game shops (diplomat) and the like.

Granted, still like a 100% incline from Skyrim. But then whilst that is a game that I actually enjoyed enough to play through once at least back then prior to the "KS revival" -- that wasn't much to inclince upon on these accounts.

Looks like an absolute dogshit.

Game about space and discovery and the first thing they show us is resource collecting, a gun pointed at some creature, killing some "raiders" in space with double shotgun and P90 and finding a new gun in a fucking lootbox.

Then they hinted that the plot will be an uninspired shit about collecting pieces of some "artifact from a long lost race" so when you collect all 5/10/15 pieces you will find a a portal to... NG+ where you could collect all this shit again.

Their old engine is a shit too, with its lack of shadows, huge fps drops and shit animations.

I'm expecting flight model to be shit too, since their engine is probably barely holding it together after what they're trying to put into it.

Looks like a mix between Fallout 4 (engine, style of fighting), No Man's Sky (dead barren planet with stuff to scan), and Outer Worlds (boring hub-worlds, like Las Vegas planet, bandit planet, corporate planet etc).

Man, just looking at the trailer makes me feel exhausted. Especially at the ending - "100s of planets to explore!". Oh, 100 of empty husks with some aliens, and maybe one or two structures.

Action game not RPG
Looks like a straight up FPS game. Okay "with RPG elements".. like every FPS game these days. This is BioShock not Skyrim. The equally twitchy space combat only makes it worse.

Bascially the fundamental gameplay consists of very quickly aiming at and shooting at things, totally about player skill - no different from Doom really,.. a genre of games I don't enjoy at all. I find it mindlessly boring and to be frank I suck at those games too because my reaction speed / hand-eye-coordination isn't that great.

I am actually kinda sad, because I did like Skyrim but this certainly isn't "Skyrim in space" (which sounded promising to me). It's a straight up action / shooter game.

I mean sure Skyrim is real-time too but everything moves and reacts way slower so that "move, aim, and shoot quickly" is certainly not the challenge / gameplay in Skyrim.

These people are literally mad because it's possible to create a black character in a fucking character creator. They inhabit the stereotype of the cartoonishly racist gamer.

Looks like diminishing returns - the game. If this is the best Microsoft has to offer, then it's looking very grim for this industry. At this rate I don't expect the current format to survive beyond this generation, theres been far too many huge budget games for too long that turn out like this uninspired wank. I'd rather play through Fallout 4 again. At least that game actually has a semblance of a soul, since it was built off something that had one (the OG Fallout). Starfield however just perfectly mirrors and illustrates just how soulless and creatively bankrupt these companies are now and you can see it reflected in every aspect, the UI, color palette, the feature "checklists". I could go on, but you get the idea.
