So, what is the Codex actually looking forward to?

Except New Reno was full of C&C, cool dialogue, cool quests, and a fucking porn studio.

Yes it also was full of stupid shit that fits Fallout setting just as well as spaceships that kidnap people and anally probe them. Just like a fucking porn studio. Too bad they weren't giving you sex cards for visiting it.

How come nearly everybody here likes it [Eshalon]?
oh my god i know i know i will tell you! because i am smart and i know much. i've played the game only for an hour but it's fantastic. it starts kind of boring because i couldn't get past the character creation. it was a little too complicated but later I found that it's not and started the game. oh my god all the colors the game is shinning fap fap fap and they told me to go somewhere north. i took all the items i found and as i have been told i went somewhere north. there were some snakes which were the first opponents. did i mentioned before how fantastic combat system is. so i will tell now. you move one square enemy move one square you move one square you attack him he attacks you you attack him he dies and sometimes it is longer and then it is pure oh my god orgasm. and you walk and walk there is some ruined village. i thought it will have some boring loot or journals of people who lived before but it didn't. awesome. and i finally got to village where were some real living not dead people were. there was some amazingly well written fed-ex quest or two and i had to read some ultimately not complex dialogues and listen to a guy who did give me some clues about my identity. oh my god i almost forgot to mention you are some guy who doesn't remember what guy he i but he was some impotent guys. awesome. and then i went to wilderness to do one of mentioned quests but slow walking and combat system complexity was too oh my god it's heaven so i must have stopped playing for a moment. i meant important no impotent. i couldn't play it later because someone accidentally uninstalled the game it wasn't me. i rate the game 127% only if there are no romances later it should be 76 but i believe there are because all good games have romances and Eshalon is not only a good game but awesome game so it kind of proves.

Gameplay wise i'm not really expecting anything. In terms of dialogs anything that comes from MCA and DGaider might at least be worth checking out. And also the new Fallout 3 mod/game from Sawyer.

Nah. Fallout 2 tried to show new formations the wasteland would give birth to, and I'd expect a parasite city like New Reno to pop up eventually. It probably would make more sense if Black Isle kept this city for a game set further down the timeline, but other than that New Reno is fine.

Fallout 2 was full of (apparently) stupid shit, but that was the point. Tribals, glowing mutant farms, mafia, talking deathclaws, martial artists, scientologists...they never made much sense to begin with, but as long as they're presented with elegance and raise questions, which they were and did, they're very welcome.

Hmm. Seems that Eschalon Book 2 will be released within the next couple of weeks.

Basilisk just announced a Q2 2009 release for the game.

Second quarter ends in August I believe

No. By its very definition, the second quarter of a year ends in June. Each quarter is three months. Unless I'm missing out on one of the stupid "traditions" of the world, where the simple most straightforward solution is ignored in favour of something else.

EDIT: That said, any trace of the aforementioned announcement seems to have been erased. Looking on the Basilisk Games forums, they're hopeful they might get the game out this year, even though it'll be a close call like the first game.

The NWN MMO (should it actually exist) might be fun... for a while. I never played CoH, but from what I've read Cryptic is supposed to be a pretty good MMO developer.

Other than that nothing's really tickling my fancy. DA maybe.

Eh... I mean no disrespect to the gentleman above (really), and I certainly understand that there may be a language issue at play, but... Is everybody just letting the heaving, squirming madness of that post just roll on by?

I think that's a nice post actually. It summarizes pretty well my thoughts about the game: praised to high heavans by the indie crowd, yet boring, bland and unoriginal.
But heh, maybe I did not play it enough and did not quite get the genius behind it.

I don't know, maybe I'm just a dick...

Seriously, though. Broken Hourglass, Age of Decadence, Divinity 2, new Vogel game (or even Avernum 6), and Knights of the Chalice. Probably in that order.

I agree wholeheartedly, something must be done. It was definitely the worst post I have ever read and even Fo3 PC's responses seem to be a shining example of sanity and eloquence when compared to this abomination. I am afraid it might be infectious! And even if it is not, this poster might cause a great decline. There is only one way to stop him. It might be considered too violent resolution but we have no choice. We must...

...burn the witch!

Hey look! Another guy fancying himself a gentlemen and professing as much through his Arcanum avatar and quirky speech.

I can almost hear the pompous, nasal british whine.

I'll agree with the crowd that says that Eschalon is not a fantastic game, but I have a very good reason to support its developers and buy it: Encouragement. Indie developers need encouragement to make and release their products. What better way to do that then to buy the product and to recommend it to people you think will like it?

Eschalon still wins "RPG of the year" for 2007 in my books...mostly by default. The Witcher is the only real competition, and I have yet to play that one, so no comment.
