. Although it seems the game will work offline too, so maybe they will make all that stuff optional?

Seems all that MMO "optional" stuff will dilute any actual single player experience especially with the money their looking at.

edit: LB just confirmed the paragon of all cRPGs.... PETS!!!!!

He only had to promise "oh it's something like Ultima VII, except with slightly higher screen resolution plus you can ride turtles" to get my cash, and instead, it's, uh, an MMORPG (which you can totally play on your own empty server, I guess o_O )? It looks schizophrenic. Quests revolving around actual choices and ethical dilemmas, and on the other hand, you can buy houses to impress your multiplayer friends and craft as a business or hobby and crash the game economy with 1000 shitty swords.

Now somebody please make that Ultima VII but With Turtles game.

I have similar worries, although I reiterate it isn't an MMO, but a multiplayer game. That is, I think the multiplayer experience will have more in common with, say, Neverwinter Nights than with World of Warcraft. Still, I think that if he manages to make a really good single player experience, and make cool multiplayer stuff on top of that, the game could be really good.

He just mentioned an Auction House as a throw away line when talking about shoehorning it into a tablet.

I think, going from his garage sale simulator thing, that he is talking about players selling stuff for other players, which isn't really bad in my book. Specially if the crafting system makes stuff other people made unique in some way.

The multiplayer/MMO/social aspect of this game is contentious, but it seems to me that Garriot wants to do just what Star Citizen and Elite: Dangerous are planning: a shared world where you can exclude other players from meeting with you (correct me if I'm wrong about Star Citizen). I'm going to play devil's advocate here, but what's so bad about that kind of system, other than "it's not single player"?

Well, one thing that's bad about it is that they absolutely don't need Kickstarter to fund that shit. They are using Kickstarter as viral twitterbook marketing that also somehow brings you a big sack of money, not as necessary patronage. Every time this trick is pulled they are eating away at the roots of the tree and pretty soon they'll kill it.

Not impressed with the things that he have talked about so far. From what i can get it will have everything, story, choices, multiplayer, but no multiplayer requirment, synced world, crafting, stores, ah... Its like he is just trying to say every buzz word in order to build hype... Maybe it will change with some update but as of right now...no pledge.

What if I want to play on my iPad or Phone?
Interestingly, I now play more hours on mobile than I do on desktop, as is true for many gamers! As a result, one of our “Stretch Goals” is to develop Shroud of the Avatar so it can be played in some form on mobile devices as well.

These are not gamers. Hell, many would be embarassed if someone called them that. These are people who want to waste some time when they are idle.

Somebody needs to keep track of people admitting to funding this crap... No, of course it's not for any sort of violent purge whatsoever, why do you ask?

Obsidian and Inexile devs when their heads hit the pillow at night: "What a tremendous amount of pressure I feel for people that put their faith in us"
Garriot: "Lol suckers, I am a character Ayn Rand would want to get raped by"

I've got the feeling after reading the reactions, Richard Garriott will just be like "Fuck it. I'm going to space." for a couple of hours.

I don't see anything to suggest that there will be female characters to play.
If they really want to evolve, they need to design a game for this century and its gamers.
