Got my pre-order email. Now only hoping the game is good despite the DRM-shenanigans.

And I don't know if it has been already mentioned somewhere, but can you or can you not import your own portraits in this game? Because I vaguely remembered something like that being said somewhere.

I always use custom portraits if possible, so a major disappointment if that's the case.
Yes, it's possible... adding new portraits and loading screens is trivial, there's a tutorial on the forums and wiki. The guy is currently looking at how possible it is to add new props (items)

Also, one of the early access backers created the Alpha mission in "reverse" (ie. you play the mage + guards to fend off the shadowrunners) and made a video LP of it. It shows off some of the editor's capabilities, and also some more gameplay (e.g. you can see that overwatch mode is directional unlike nu-XCOM).

The video is quite interesting.
Nice find Zetor, thanks.
The gameplay looks ok but i'm maybe even more interested by the story/atmosphere than the game mechanics on this one though (as a fan of the SNES version which had crappy/minimalist mechanics but great atmosphere).

Shit. I didn't get an email like that. Did those emails only go out to people with physical rewards?

For anyone that didn't get the e-mail:

jsullivan -

Even though the game is going to be available on Steam, Kickstarter backers will need to access their HBS account for the Steam key or DRM-free version of the game as well as any downloadable extras you purchased which will be on the HBS Account Site. They will appear when the game is released.

You should have received an email from us with a link to the HBS Account Website along with log in and password. I know this might be an obvious question but have you looked in your spam folder? That’s where a lot of people have found theirs.

If it’s not, please go to this link https://account.harebrained-schemes.com/ and use the "forgotten password" feature. As long as the email address you enter is in the system, it will send a new password. When that doesn’t work, we’ve found the reason most people haven’t received their email yet is because we have an old email address for you.

If that's the case, please email Brian at brian@hbs-studios.com with the name and email you used to sign up for the Kickstarter and the amount you backed at. With that information, he'll be able to look you up and send out your log in information.

Thanks!

HBS

Microsoft has decreed they can only sell the game with DRM, they chose Steam as their DRM. Backers will get a DRM-free copy, but it won't get expansions past the Berlin campaign.

Because Steam is not GOG... Seriously, my irrational(?) dislike of it stems from the way it started with Half-Life 2, if you remember that.

And the fact that you have to install the Steam software to play the actual games... Steam is just wrong.

It was shit way back, then it became great and it's turning a little shittier again now with all the fluff like badges and stuff but still. If you don't want to install additional software to play a game I get where you are coming from, but the sheer convenience of one extra program that stores, manages and updates all these games for me is well worth it.

Fuck games that add any sort of DRM or extra software on top of steam though (mainly rockstar and ubisoft).

You have to run steam as administrator for the update to work.

Nah, this happened after I had played it for a while. I have no idea why it is updating now. :(

Is Steam the only place where you will be able to buy it?

The game will require Steam to work, thank microsoft for that.

Take your key, get a GOG copy and never go through that again.

Have you tried right-clicking the game in steam, selecting properties and turning off automatic updates for the game?

Steam is bearable these days, i.e. it doesn't bother me very much if I ignore it. It used to be annoying as fuck, Play Offline & Do Not Update never working, always crashing.
