What happens is that it's still better then multimillion AAA titles. The mind boggles.
Pure fanboyism.

Coming from you that's precious.

Lawlz. Sawyer's ideas are rock solid. Don't need to play it to know that.

Yeeeeeeeep.

This is looking great, I really wish i'd backed it.
Pre Order, i think it's important to show them they have your support.
And for the price asked it's a steal.

http://harebrained-schemes.com/shadowrun/shadowrun-returns-pre-order/

I should have pledge higher, gonna change that by buying another pîece for my brother.
Really a shame they got only 1,8 million; imagine if they had one more million...
And about people not believing about the project it just show they cannot read. The update was the best ever.
They showed how they test the gameplay like if was a tabletop game before programming it, the way thery are doing the IA among other things.
Deep meaningful update about the process, not vague stuff.
And the guy is the creator of Shadowrun, Mechwarrior and other famous games...not a nobody. And PnP Shadiwrun is damn complex...
The only fear was SR would have been a very simple game (but with clever gameplay) with basic graphix, i was ready to accept that because i knew the story will be good anyway and i love the PnP Shadowrun background.
Well it turns out the graphix are great and the gameplay, while not of a JA 2 113 level (not sure i want that anyway in a cRPG), is much more complex than in fallout 1/2.
Awesome, if only they had 2,5 or 3 million...

I just finished watching the gameplay video, it's... beautiful.

Shot in the dark here, are there any other games like this from yesteryear that I can play to tide me on over?

Is the SNES version worth a blast?
I really enjoyed the SNES version but it's a simple game.
The scope and gameplay is limited.
What they got right and why it has a "cult" following is because they perfectly got the mood/atmosphere.
And the music was great too.
I think it's still enjoyable but don't expect deep character development or tactical game play or a sandbox games.
Expect a good story in a great atmosphere and play it more like an adventure game.
You have a long play of it on this site.

Because of all the fisting i received i will add the cred stick information that i know and why they are not important as dropped loot.

A cred stick is the main way to do transactions. There are two kinds of sticks the Certified and the personal. There is also different levels of cred stick and they are Standard, silver, gold, platinum and ivory/ebony and that also coincides with security and and the maximum amount of funds you can get out of it and put into it. (there is a few issues with this that people tend to house rule)

The Quality of cred stick is reliant on how well you are liked by the bank and your cash amount. At least for the personal ones and certified works more like bearer bonds and in who ever holds it owns the money there with no need for any thing extra so if you find a certified Ebony stick then that money is yours and you are in the money more or less. Certified cred sticks are how a lot of money is moved by shadow runners and who ever they deal with, but they are not that used by every one else.

Now personal ones will always have security on them and they are the most common. Let's say you gun down rentacop Murphy and you find a standard stick on him. Now to get to what ever walking around money he's got you will need a pass key, but let's say instead of this that you during an attack on a secret corp research center you gun down corporate thug Charlie who is better payed so he has a silver stick. That would mean that you would both need his pin and a his finger print and it only goes op from there.

Now this can be circumvent and you can hack a cred stick, but the stronger the stick the harder the hack and it is more or less a waste of time for any thing that is not the biggest sticks, but they are also the hardest to hack. Now there is some ways you can make money of selling cred sticks, but that is not something most shadowrunners would deal with. It would be like robbing a house for all the jewelry and also stealing that ugly lamp because you can pawn it for 5$.

In the end most people will have personal cred stick and getting to that money is a HUGE PAIN in the ass and a big risk for little reward.

I also forgot Personal cred sticks can be traced easy and certified can not. Remember a shadow runner who is not sinless or is to well know by Lone star is not going to get a lot of work. Getting 100 new yen from a cred stick is not worth leaving a paper trail for.

The bodies themselves could have been a good loot.
Especially those of heavy cyberwared opponent. I know a doc just around the corner....All this used cyberware must come from somewhere after all :P
And a certain organization is always looking for fresh body part too ;)
Just trolling here, not dropped loot is not big deal. You can't have everything.

Any word if they will be implement gruesome death animations? Would be amazing for that samurai to cut people up into tiny pieces, or that shotgun to blow away some large chunks of gangers.

Don't mind the lack of looting in a game such as this. Most Shadowrun missions involve something like "get hired by Amoral Giant Corporation A to infiltrate facility operated by Amoral Giant Corporation B in order to steal/kidnap/assassinate something or someone before being caught by their vastly superior corporate security forces." Bearing this in mind, it is understandable why you might not want to stop and go through the pockets of everyone you kill, burderning yourself with tons of extra crap and jeopardising your primary mission.

Editin' in Q&A updates.

Looks like they're considering easing up a bit on the quest compass, though I imagine it depends on how bad the last three months of crunch are (I imagine it will be pretty bad)
Aie, i can't say it makes me happy Really no way to go without a quest marker ? And if mandatory at least make the marker very large please (a zone marker).
You mean rather than telling you specifically where to go so you can explore? Hmm. Okay, I'll think about that. Thanks!
The question about how threat tables work gets a non-answer. :(
The AI re-evaluates their threat list every turn. The basilisk decided that the abomination spirit is the biggest threat in the room.
But whyyyyyyyy does it consider it the biggest threat?

Loot systems = depth? WoW must be a pretty deep game.
Mmm hmm. Remember when some guise here pitched a fit when ME2 removed inventory? Or VD complaining about how he couldn't loot bodies in AP's tutorial?

Oh but it's okay if a ~party-based turned-based game~ leaves it out, here's a bunch of words to justify streamlining.

Roguey being a huge bleeding vagina ITT.

Loot was never a big part of SR, since the stuff runners want to use usually comes through their fixer and has been cleaned of all identifying marks, from RFID chips to serial numbers to associated paperwork. Or is in the form of magical supplies which are very personal due to the way SR magic works (so stealing someone elses focus is no good unless your traditions are similar), or involves surgically adding stuff to your body which is difficult to do in the field.

Pick up that CorpSecs Ares Predator and the grip will have been customized for someone else, it will not be calibrated to work with your smartlink and you'll have to spend time hacking (time consuming) it to bypass the biometric security before it'll even fire. After the mission it's not going to be worth more than 5-10 nuyen because it's registered in half a billion places and the whole purpose of being a runner is not leaving any paperwork trail. It's a lot of risk and hassle for minimal reward.

And don't get me started on the joys of running around with a dead mans credstick, trying to buy NutriSoy™ in Stuffer Shack.

Telesma, summoning materials and such can be salvaged in the field (and likely falls under their limited loot system). But 9/10ths of the time, a Shadowrun is about getting paid by Johnson and possibly uncovering data worth selling.

Cyberware is also not worth recovering, since you will need specialist clinics to free the stuff without damaging the connectors. Also, second-hand cyber/bioware incurs additional essence loss when implanted. If you're a player character, you really don't want anything less than alpha-grade or better when it comes to cyber. And that stuff again requires access to highly exclusive black clinics if you need to have restricted stuff implanted.

The moment one of your players gets it into his head to start harvesting organs and second-hand bioware is when most campaigns end up with the runners getting eaten by ghouls. Because once you start working for Tanamous, you only land jobs with a certain kind of very, very dangerous Johnsons.

Go back to the P:E thread with your inanity if you don't understand the setting. :P

Your setting-justified-streamlining excuses mean nothing because
As much as we wanted one and designed one, we don't have the funding to implement it in this version of the game.

Nope, it's not "okay", most defences of it here are pretty terrible. It is, however, understandable that they couldn't do everything given their budget and time-frame. And don't tell me Vogel-could-do-it-and-so-so-could-they. Unless you're implying 1) That those games are directly comparable and 2) They are evil, inventory-hating scum who are lying and left out inventories on purpose! BioWare and Obsidian have no such budget excuses.

Guess they need more brainwashed thai drones to throw jewgold at them whole they make vague gestures in the air and ramble about their love of cooldowns.

And Grunker, seriously man, outside of babys first run most PnP groups don't even bother asking what's on the corpses after a fight. I'm fine with the game being more like the PnP I love even if HBS wanted to add AWESOME to it.

I would have brofisted if not for this part. ME2 got rid of inventory for gameplay-pacing and not-budget reasons and AP did have stuff to loot in levels, just not from mooks.

You're right, ME2 and AP are shitty games, they lack of inventory has nothing to do with it :troll:

In all seriousness, I do kind of agree with you, except I think both games would be better and have more depth as RPGs with proper inventory-systems. The decisions not to include them was definetely streamlining. You may call it "pacing", it boils down to the same. Yes, the games are more fast-paced without proper systems, but they also lose depth. I would have liked both games more with proper inventory-systems, and a reviewers job isn't to reach for objectivity but to state what he found enjoyable/not enjoyable in the game. As such, VD was in the right to criticize the lack of proper inventory system.

I do agree with you, however, that people have double-standards when defending their personal Kickstarter-love-interest, but so do you.

So enemies never leave behind any ammo or healing patches? How odd.

I had to doublecheck to remember but both the Genesis and SNES Shadowrun games, which they've cited as influences, had things to loot, both from containers in the game world and dead enemies.

In an actual PnP setting raiding some sensitive base or corporate research facility, timing is important too. Not that time-sensitivity is like to be used in a CRPG outside of the odd mission or two with a bomb or something.

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
I'd much prefer the game to have looting, but it missing isn't that much of a problem considering the rest of the game looks gorgeous as fuck.
