...someone just shared this shit into the refunds reddit, no clue how legit this shit might be, but holy fuck.
I know that marketing takes a huge chunk of the video games budget, but I had no clue this would also apply to crowdfunded games?

The money train doesn't drive itself. Choo choo!
It can't be done without the community's first-person full-throated embrace of CIG's not-so-secret sauce!

Meanwhile, Squadron 404 is still developing backwards in time, going from (can't find it at the moment) the "grey box or better" quote from 2016 to the infamous:

Soon they'll have a vertical slice to show off and then it'll shrink into a tech demo and then disappear completely!

Publishing I think also covers militance of servers, websites etc. There is a reason why devs look for publishers instead of releasing on their own. Also if you read company financials never take it at face value. There are plenty of tricks in accountant books to make stuff look dire in order to be taxed less or receive bigger grants.

Those numbers come from UK office where all companies in UK have to state publicly their financials.

There's nothing stopping CIG's marketing department from buying their own jpegs to investment-signal to the more pliable of society.
That was how most of these crowdfunding things started out, with the creator putting down a good chunk so the cup wasn't completely empty when they held it out to beg.

The only thing I've noticed for 3.18 besides a generally less stable game is all the hospital robes that are now persistent and littering the ground. I don't even understand what the PTU is for at this point.

Fun fact: Back in the Kickstarter days, one of the first claims CR made was something along the lines of

"Game publishers use up to 30% of the funding on marketing! But Star Citizen needs no marketing, so we'll use all those resources directly for developing the game!"

Marketing so far has produced the most results. :mixedemotions:

Evocati - closed access to select few users. Literally barely works. Missing features that are added gradually.

PTU - Once some patching on evocati goes and game starts to get playable it gets released to PTU. It is semi closed as it requires subscription to get into PTU.

Live - currently best stable build they have before they decide to move on to work on another patch. IT doesn't mean it is 1.0 release game stable. In general Live was pretty stable for past 2 years but recent major change to networking has some kinks to fix over few patches.

And yeah recent stability is dogshit but that was expected imho.

I'm surprised it's only 33%, expected it to be like CoD, where more than half the entire budget goes into marketing, lol. Especially when the whole thing seems to run on perpetually convincing people to buy space ship .jpgs.

Anyway, here's hoping that, someday in the distant future, this might become a fun game. I'll be content letting others fund it's development :smug:

Star Commander is delayed until all the actors die to save on royalties.

Indeed.

https://www.dualshockers.com/star-c...es-2020-beta-window-no-release-date-in-sight/

Back in 2018 Cloud Imperium announced that the Star Citizen single-player mode Squadron 42 would be getting a beta release sometime in 2020. However, recent statements from Roberts Space Industries founder and Star Citizen creator Chris Roberts revealed otherwise, which coincides with the RSI project roadmap deleting any mention of the release date on the site back in December 23rd, 2020.

Ah, apparently CIG innovated what "grey-box or better" meant, as otherwise taking 7 years to go from there to release candidate is pretty insane.

What marketing does SC do?

They operate more like Tesla where Elon deliberately shitposts constantly to keep himself and his companies in the news all the time. Tesla spends 0% on marketing.

SC marketing is just shoveling money into family and friends' pockets.

Squadron 42 is the name of his megayacht, it's taking the shipyard much longer than he was quoted to construct.
