Although "Thus Ever to Decline" isn't necessarily a good motto, since what half the Codex usually does is run out and purchase the latest pissbloom brownshooter, then get mad when the rest of the Codex calls them retarded. :hero:

He's still getting money from this ?
The guy should just stop any development and just post a couple of news items once in a while ; money keeps on coming anyway !

All crowdfunding projects should do it, in my opinion. The initial burst of funds is great, but why stop there?

Maybe if you can dedicate a person to work just on that, but otherwise it is an overkill.

Crowdfunding has also quite a few negatives that come with it.

It turns out that the perceived value of limited-time pledge ships is skyrocketing. My RSI forum inbox is full of these offering $600-$1,000 for a ship that cost me $300:

I also purchased two Idris Corvettes and sold one for $2,000 almost immediately after Kickstarter pledge consolidation, meaning I got the Idris Corvette I have now essentially for free. Grey markets are fun. If I sell my Scythe also, I'll have actually profited over $400 on this game and also come away with a Constellation pledge package and a Corvette to show for it.

That can't be condoned by Chris.

He's definitely not thrilled, but it's not disallowed, either (I checked). There's no feasible way for CIG to regulate such trades even if they wanted to—backers are able to gift whatever packages or add-ons they please for any reason, be it to siblings, friends, an extra account of their own, or a guy who just happened to send them X dollars via PayPal. If the seller (or buyer) gets ripped off, then it's not CIG's problem. When I sold my other Corvette, I checked the buyer's forum history and had him call me on my cell for a chat. He paid half up front before I gifted him the ship, then the second half after delivery, and was happy to do so.

Personally, I don't see a problem with it. From CIG's perspective, all the pledges are doing is changing hands.

If I do sell the Vanduul fighter, I'm thinking of buying 9 Colonel packages, keeping one for myself, gifting a couple to certain friends/family members, and will likely raffle off the remaining five to Codexers. So, CIG's actually going to get a cut of the profit. I'll also be using a portion of the $1,000 from the Corvette sale to buy multiple basic Aurora pledge package for my "spying" accounts.

Steam trading cards are fun and all, but space ships are where the real action is!

Hey Blaine, if they do get to, say, 15 or 20 millions, does that only mean that investors will have less/zero influence on the game's development or will they still take their money? I think Chris said that he was holding them off but I don't exactly remember if he really meant taking less money from them.

The consensus on the forums seems to be more crowdfunding money = fewer/possibly no investors, and I'm assuming they got that from somewhere, but I haven't seen where Chris Roberts has actually discussed it.

Thanks bros ;)

And well, no investors meddling with the development sounds cool, but honestly 20 millions doesn't sound quite enough for a game which promises to offer that much, though then again they don't have to waste anything on console versions and marketing, and hopefully they can squeeze some money from the MoCap thingie, we'll see...

In the early 2000s, I never figured that being an obsessed superfan, spamming 20,000 posts on a fan forum, running a fan site, and generally ingratiating oneself with veteran developers at every opportunity (I'm hyperbolizing and generalizing a bit here, yes, back off) could actually get you onto a development team.

Turns out I was wrong, and not just regarding Star Citizen. That said, Ben Lesnick is a pretty cool guy and interacts with the community daily on the forums and in live chat.

Over there.
I may have missed if this was mentioned before, but does anyone know if the game/s will have realtime planetfall transitions or if it's a loading screen set up?

Atmospheric flight would be awesome but unfortunately it's going to be like Freelancer/Privateer.
