Speaking of the freelancer, I have to admit that's the ship I lust after the most when I glanced at Star Citizen. Obviously the connection to Serenity, but also to the tarsus class ships in Privateer. Just looks incredibly pleasing for space trading and space adventure. No idea how hard working toward one of those in-game would be, but that'd probably be my ultimate goal. Though I also have to admit if the MMO-side of things pans out as good as they say, doing "Crew things" on a ship and taking space suits/battle armor for boarding actions would be cool and sorta unique. About the only game that comes to mind that really encouraged "Crews" working on a ship was the Air Buccaneers mod for UT2K4 (No idea how the retail game stacks up to the mod).

And speaking of "Crew things", have they explained how that's supposed to work? Are there character-skills, so you'll level up engineering and can make repairs faster? Do you run around tapping the use key on sparking panels inside the ship, or is there going to be a minigame associated with it (Pipe Dreams or match-3?) or what? I heard about the multiple people crewing a ship thing, but I haven't heard anything on what that actually entails.

Could care less about the MMO/ P2W part of this thing... I pledged to (hopefully) get a descent Wing Commander-like single-player game. Unlike Garriott's monstrosity, Star Citizen seems to have kept the MMO and single-player games separate so I never need to see/play/experience the MMO/P2W part.

If the MMO/P2W stuff creeps into my single-player game then all go all :x!

Assuming it pans out like they say it should be the best of all worlds. You'll get a branching Wing Commander-like campaign, a single player/player hosted MP sandbox like Privateer/Freelancer, and a company-hosted MMO. At least to my understanding.

There will be absolutely no character skills or stats whatsoever, only player skill. As the pilot or helmsman of a multi-crew ship, your skill at maneuvering the ship and using the main weapons systems will be a deciding factor. As a turret gunner, your ability to track and hit ships accurately will be important. The performance of snub/launched fighter(s) will depend on the skill of the pilot(s). NPCs will be able to stand in for actual players, and they will have varying levels of "skill" (at greater cost to hire them), but even the best will probably be much worse than a decent player.

How in-flight repairs will work is still not entirely clear, but Chris Roberts has said that for ships with walk-able interiors, something like a crew member repairing sparking panels with repair kits is a very likely feature at launch. He compared it to Han and Chewie fixing the warp core on the Millennium Falcon. There will also be auto repair bots. EVA suits and performing repairs outside of ships is much less likely to be in at launch, but Chris mentioned it and it's something they're considering. Finally, he also said that in order to perform full repairs, a ship has to land in a starport. In-flight repairs are patch jobs only.

The largest ship we know much about at this point is the Constellation, which is crewed by only four: pilot, two turret gunners, snub fighter pilot. The Corvette and Destroyer may have multiple stations for tasks normally handled by a single pilot in a small ship. For example one player may be the helmsman, one may regulate power distribution and shield strength, another may handle radar and electronic countermeasures, and another may be the weapons officer. That's pure speculation, but it's a decent possibility. I'm sure it's been discussed in some thread or another on the official forum.

That's correct. If the persistent multiplayer is terrible, there's single-player and user-hosted, mod-able multiplayer.

As an aside, I think the comparison of Star Citizen to what Lord Yiddish did with Shroud of the Avatar is a bad one. Garriott sold exclusive titles of nobility such as "Lord" and "Baron" that will adorn players' avatars in-game, and he sold limited-availability plots of persistent virtual property for far more money than even the most expensive SC pledge ships (all of which will be readily available to purchase in-game for credits). Yes, both of them bribed people with goodies for extra cash, but Garriott's literally made his biggest spenders landed nobility in a persistent world before the game's even begun. Having a few fighters or an Idris Corvette isn't even remotely comparable to that.

As for Squadron Names, the Neverwinter and RIFT guilds are called Knights of Codexia. For this squadron however, I like Warriors of Diversity (or something similar but spacey) :smug:

Although Lionheart Fansite Syndicate certainly has appeal :lol:

Knights of Codexia and Warriors of Diversity are absolutely terrible, sounds like some dorky LARPing shit (though rather fitting for WoW clones).

Ultimately, we'll have to decide whether we want the Codex squadron to remain an obscure club peopled by a handful of grouchy 90s nostalgia sufferers, or if we'd like to grow it into a respectable and formidable (albeit small) organization at some point. This will involve recruiting some peasants to do our bidding, and/or allying ourselves with other organizations. Even if 50 Codexers enjoy the game, that will translate into 4-5 people online at any given time after launch excitement dies down, and will probably be even fewer. On the other hand, if the game turns out to be awesome half the Codex might jump on the bandwagon.

Choice of name, image, and ethos are thus important considerations moving forward one way or the other.

Just something to consider. I'm not trying to send a "oh my god it'll be so small how will I dominate the galaxy, BRB joining Redd Squadron" sort of message.

The Codex Diversity Squadron gets my vote. Even if we grow it, I don't see anything wrong with it having the Codex in its name - it should. And I agree that growing isn't a bad idea.

Why are my pledge tiers different to yours?

I can hardly await for all the massive pain in the nether regions when someone exploits some of the several bugs in the game to obliterate one of those expensive ships.

Though I guess the insurance/whatever lessens the hurt somewhat.

Blaine i am not devoured by jealousy because you have bought a capital ship and i dont, i just discovered the outrageous price, i probably missed the mail from RSI i am not reading them anymore.Unlike david braben's elite dangerous whos sending gameplay related info ,when i get a RSI kickstarter update its about a new sale , ive just noticed all the upgrade packages possible; so there's the different level of pledges plus extra upgrades , skins etc for the ship. Lot of cash grabs for a game that may be good.

The whole system is perverted and seems more directed to get the most cash from me than even trying to entertain . So you start with the aurora ship with the 30$ pledge but wait i see at 60$ you get the I300 wich is the BMW,they clearly state it, while the aurora is just the starter shitty student ship no ? is there any point to upgrade it ? Will it be the equivalent of wolrd of tank light traktor? I kinda feel forced to get at least that BMW now ...

If i was sure it will become a fantastic then i probably go get the pirate kit at least, but as of right now it may turn out like peter molyneux latest games . Molyneux was a great designer too .

Now you say its a little drop int he sea , maybe i worry for nothing , but life insurance for a ship in a game like eve would be something very important, i hope its way cheaper to insure a ship in star citizen. I would hate to be forced to do intense grinding as most pvp players are.

Most of the pledge tiers and add-ons have been available since October. The alien fighter and the Corvette were introduced in mid-November for a final push as the campaign wound down. In the seven months since then, there has been one special event for the Aurora LX, which is a super-cheap starter ship.

What the fuck do you think a crowdfunding campaign is? They want as much money as they can reasonably get, and not for charity. None of these crowdfunding campaigns are charity organizations. For $10,000, absolutely any one of the Codex's savior-of-the-decade beloved godlike RPG developers will throw a special party for you. THAT is a true cash grab. For a few hundred thou under the table, they'd probably let you fuck their sisters up the ass.

I'm getting tired of defending Star Citizen against ludicrous hyperbole and the Chicken Littles of this forum. No, everyone doesn't get a free Battlestar Galactica just for showing up, yes, the game will cost you more than $5 and, naturally, you can't know if it'll be the best game since the Big Bang until we're closer to release. Fucking FUCK.

P.S.: I also backed Elite: Dangerous for a substantial amount of money and am looking forward to it.

Oh maybe i exagerate about every mail being sales but its unpleasant to be sollicited for that . I know its a business , never expected anything else but theres different ways to do business. Other kickstarters offer you gamedesign options like design your own npc, or in case of elite dangerous, name a solar system , ships are much more affordable its 70£ at max , thats ok for me . RSI offering in game priviledges but on a bigger scale , you already have 1rst rate citizens, 2500+ $ with all the goodies and capitals then second rate(around 35-200$) with slighter better hull and pledger ships and finally the guys who will discover the game at release will be third rate, i cant wait to read the forums by then . I suspect while everything is available to everyone it will require massive grinding, something similar to world of tank, why change a recipe that work. Except you add a monthly subscription on top of that, wich means they really have to make you play the longest amount of time possible , aka grinding .

Here's a very rough mockup I've knocked together of the general style and format of emblem I personally have in mind (regardless of name), with Codex colors, Incline Inc., crappy placeholders (in Tacticular Cancer colors) on the sides since space would need to be taken up by some elements there, and the troll up top.

I was thinking that too, but I'm "borrowing" (copying wholesale) from glorious potato coat of arms:

In any event, more details/elements/filigree can and will be added and tweaked, and something that looks as polished as any government or military insignia or emblem is possible with enough free time spent screwing around in Photoshop. There are plenty of months left. Also might just chucked an improved mockup over to a drafting artist to get something truly spiffy.
