But it's a stupid and ineffective argument to just tell people they don't remember IE games properly.

But that always works for the target audience of this game and of this review. hurr durr u only like old games stop living in the past old games suck etc etc

Higher difficulty levels are for subsequent replays. Otherwise, there is no point of having higher difficulty in the first place.

I always play games on Easy the first time around. It makes it easier to enjoy the story and presentation without having to spend all your time micromanaging things.

I love POE but I have no idea what this review was meant to achieve at any level. With respect / apologies to Decado I'd like to learn what he was trying to even communicate.

That steel is heavier than feathers.

You mean 1kg of it vs 1kg of feathers, put on a scale?
It is. :smug:

Another question to make your brain melt:
What if you put a 1kg helium balloon on the other side of the scale?

"80% of the game is fighting. Lucky for us, the combat is mostly well done" No its the same all the time all over the game,no effort at all in encounter design.

"I do not agree with some of the Codex complaints that encounter design in PoE was uniformly terrible, though I will say that my above formula with Eder up front made most encounters start -- and end -- the same way." You dont agree with the complaints but reading that and all of the review.. you think the same way!

I notice too its the only review linked by the rpgcodex curator , the evil roxxor review was never linked curiously . This new version is more sugar coated and suitable for advertisement. You could find something similar on any mainstream site. Hope staff got a nice paycheck for this, or enough game keys, its cheap to bribe the dex .

a) someone liking a mediocre game is not a conspiracy. it's more or less to be expected. that's what bell curves are about.
b) no one but Codex readers reads Codex reviews, and I'm quite sure everyone on the Codex who's going to buy PoE any time soon already has
c) posting anything positive about anything on the Codex is a great way to get a bunch of people crawling out of the woodwork to shoot it down, as we have all participated in in this thread. the snowball of vitriol that follows any compliment is sure to outweigh any cognitive impact of the compliment itself.

Review sounds like a fanboy desperately trying to find something good about the game.

Rpgcodex curator ,25 k followers, evil roxxor review not linked ,so it does not exist to the 25 k followers. Nice decado review , linked on rpgcodex curator , 25k followers now see its a good game worth purchasing. No conspiracy, just common sense there's an agreement to show POE under some positive light in exchange of some (meager likely)compensation.

Best POE review I've read yet.
It's honest and critical without being cranky.
It examines the psychology of how and why we like certain games.
And refuses to trash it in exchange for anal pounding.

I felt similarly -- I was more excited about it than any game in the past few years, I played Chapter 1 with starry-eyed wonder, but by the end I was wishing that I could just read it more like a book than actually play it. not enough to stop playing, and the story felt like when an author pads a fantastic and focused shortstory into a wandering 600page epic....I want to know more about this world and I want to take down the gods and its political systems, but if they keep the same narrative pace over the sequels it'll take 4 games to actually get there.

I love the fanboy accusations. I own two Obsidian games.
WHAT DID OBSIDIAN PAY DECADO?

HOW MANY DORITOS DOES IT TAKE?
He did it for free. I remember seeing a tv documentary on prostitution that some russian teens were doing it for free, just to be with wealthy guys. Its a bit the same the review is for free , just to be pal with obsidian :) .
Now i am not sure everyone here do it for free!

Now that I actually finished it and spent over 150 hours I can say the game is great. Great presentation, solid world if a bit bland, and sturdy combat. I got bored wit DivOS in the first town. PoE is a great base to build upon even if the future is not another isometric rtwp game.

Its like an Egyptian sculptor making the best profile statue ever and pondering what he can make to improve.

Deep in your subconscious mind spreading lies.
....silly bugs in the first few days of the game’s rollout, the experience is mega solid and highly polished. I run a custom rig with a lot of silly nonsense running in the background and the worst bug I ever had was the loading problem at Raedric's Hold which was fixed within two days. I am not exaggerating when I say Fallout 3 and Skyrim were more buggy in their initial releases than this game. Solid work on that, Obsidian.....

:hmmm: I swear this must be a troll review? "Hey guyz this game had less bugzzz than Fallout 3, must be 10/10 goty most solid, bestest release ever!!!"

The fuck is this shit. Comparing the amount of bugs on release to a Bethesda game is like comparing a some normal person with the handicap at the asylum. Who fucking cares if you are smarter than him? Christ sake Skyrim had dragons flying backwards, you would have to try pretty fucking hard to beat that.

guys. it's normal for people to have different opinions. you don't have to agree or even respect different opinions, but saying "if you claim to like something I didn't you're being paid" is absurd.

Grab the Codex by the pussy Divinity: Original Sin Torment: Tides of Numenera Shadorwun: Hong Kong Pathfinder: Kingmaker Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag. Pathfinder: Wrath I'm very into cock and ball torture
Um.

Why do we have a Codex reviewer who plays the game on Normal? Who thinks Normal in any RPG is a reasonable difficulty? Most Codexers play on harder difficulties, and more importantly, RPGs are traditionally so easy that you get a distorted view of mechanics on such a low difficulty.

I would disagree with you there. I think most games should be reviewed on the Normal Difficulty, since that is the default difficulty meant to be played by the general public. It would be a plus for the reviewer to also play through a second time on other difficulties, but Normal should be the default for a review.
