"This is super super early code, we're way way pre-alpha, and what that means there's loads of features, not just in terms of the graphics but also in terms of the combat and the animations, that actually aren't in the game yet, so the final game is actually going to look way, way better than this" - James Russell, demonstrating pre-pre-Alpha footage that is far more graphically impressive than the final game( Battle of Carthage as a prime example).

I have to say - I have not experienced any crashes, graphical glitches, lags or anything - turn takes rather small time and battle loading takes 5-10 seconds.

Graphics are kind of off ,had to disable shadows to even see what's going on. Loading times are way,way better. My average loading in S2 was minute and a half to two at least ,now is 25-30 seconds.Had one CTD and I think that is because of alttabing a lot,in Empire I CTD every time when alt+tab.
But on the campaign map I'm actually surprised how different is from Shogun 2 in the positive way.Conquering provinces have that Paradox's EU/CK feel when you just want to grab the whole region so you can see it in your coluor on the map in naturally shaped borders.

My motivation for conquering the world in RTW was to build highways everywhere so I could watch more of those cute little wagons roll around from city to city on those nice purplish roads, pretty little trees bobbing back and forth like some super mario bros 3 shit.

Also, are Roman troops still voice-coded? Like in RTW where the Hastati had little girly voices, Principes had burly manly voices and Triarii had these-guys-will-fuck-your-shit-up voices.

  1. Played it for a short while, here are my impressions:
  2. I like that they have line of sight, I like that the campaign maps is much more detailed and have much more choke points and possibilities for ambush and how decisive one can be, as well as the stances, which are great.
  3. Units are fast as fuck, but this is no different from the first rome which was basically an arcade game, I think you can turn this off.
  4. Optimization is shit, I hope they fix this.

  1. yeah, and the AI seems better than ever, especially the battle AI. Though it's still to early to say.

UI in the campaign is the only thing keeping me from enjoying this. Battles are enjoyable though.

Also, turns become slower and slower the more you play. Fucking end turn takes 30 seconds after a while.

Why bother making a good AI when even people that should know better...keep lapping this shit up?

People that should know better aren't lapping this shit up.

Reading the reviews it becomes painfully apparent that retards are now legion in the audience. They being more bothered by the apparent game's ''complexity'', and ''significant'' learning slope for newcomers than the AI itself.

So far the UI has been my biggest issue. It just irritates me. Is this the Shogun2 UI?

I dont have the graphical problems like on that screenshot earlier its quite prettty although even on extreme nowhere near the impressive advertisements video we seen before. i dont know how to say it, just zooming out it looks messy and pixelated. The big problem is the AI, i am doing a sparta campaign atm, i've just been able to take a city by walking inside litterally just a fight with some archers while the bulk of the enemy huge army was standing 100m of the victory point . It did not even intervene when i seized the point, i am not even speaking of a fortified city with hard pathfinding issues.. just one of those open village. Souds like i paid for an early access again.

I usually don't trust reviews that can't come up with their own screenshots and have to use the generic marketing snapshots that CA gave everyone months ago.
You start to wonder if they even played the game.

Jim: Do you think they’ll ever attempt something different? We’ll see Warhammer Total War, of course. But I wonder if they will ever tread the path that so many want from them: The 20th Century.
Adam: When I spoke to them they said the one thing they didn’t wnat to do was anything with a three in it. I can see an American Civil: Total War working. I’m sure that used to be the only wargame setting around. Back in the day.

Yeah they're definitely dumbfucks. Probably don't have a fucking clue about what the franchise is all about.

I'm really starting to believe they haven't played this game at all. They probably just read other reviews and saw a bunch of videos at best.

'RPS' said:
I am not sure that’s always the case, but Arma 2′s great power was the scenario editor and scripting, which allowed all kinds of antics I can’t think of a strategy game that provides that sort of access, and I am not certain there is one.

It's like they're doing it on purpose.

Another good one :

Adam: (The Old Gods allows for vast pagan empires!) At the core of the Total War situation is this – Empire and Rome II are the most ambitious and, I’d argue, interesting Total War games. But they’re also the most obviously flawed. Total War works best when it’s performed within a sort of civil war scenario – contained, controlled and directed.
Jim: Agreed. I suspect this is what has kept Total War from ever doing something radical, like WW1 or Space War, something like that: they know if they stray too far that it breaks down.

Simplistic reasoning level.

The whole point of this article is for them to share their ''superior'' insights, in a pseudo conversation mimicking some Greek philosopher's treatise.

They are that pretentious. Which makes their retardation even more comical.

Jim has always been a dumbfuck. RPS is just Kotaku without the feminism, same level of retardo.

You can find tons of dumbfuck feminist articles on RPS, example: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2013/08/27/impressions-skullgirls/#more-166144

I feel sick.

I played the Prologue campaign for about 3 hours last night.

I am digging the battles more than in Shogun 2 - cavalry is actually effective again! The campaign AI seems to be pretty sneaky - with boats offloading troops to your rear and so on.

I had no major graphical glitches and everything ran quite well at Max settings on a GTX680.

The UI is not very intuitive but I was getting a handle on it after a while. Settlement management seems to have taken a step back in the sense it seems a bit dumbed down compared to previous titles. Not sure how I feel about provinces having multiple settlements yet.

Looking forward to starting a full game soon.
