I like how he says they're gonna tweak AI and balancing because now they have data from thousands of people. Which is pretty much an admission that they are so goddamn stupid that they couldn't see this shit right in front of them.

Can't wait for that MOBA to fail because no one is able to install it due to every antivirus software declaring it a malicious trojan.

ah once again, Release is another name for Beta Test :)

i LOVE the Elephant AI, i feel much much safer as a loyal Roman, that this new Hannibal will not even FIND the alps let alone cross them :) now i can sleep comfortably in my villa and eat olives every day. As for the driving skilils of the siege tower teams, well with that big ladder (which never did I ever see anything remotely like that in reading surviving texts of Vitruvius,, but their driving skills are nicely deadly to them and no real threat to my cities either...so i will sleep even better.

I fear for our new Rome but hey will have to try it out today...my copy just got here. :)

I have to wonder, who thought it was a good idea to take away the walls from most settlements? They've removed the interesting parts of the TW siege battles (breaching the walls) and kept the tedious part (fighting in narrow streets). Didn't they playtest this shit?

All AAA games are Beta Tests upon release these days, Rome 2 is actually quite decent considering the loose standards of the industry- the game isn't really that buggy and runs quite well once you tweak the settings. On the other hand the entire thing is hugely bloated and not just from a faction point of view. You have tons of abilities/building trees/other micromanagement stuff and the UI just can't handle them properly.

Ya, i agree. I was thinking of that as i read the early returns on this new title. I have had hopes for it, and will still hope for the best.

And the fucking UI. Yet none of these retards really speak about how inferior it is to Shogun's. Probably because they haven't played neither.

The UI is definitely a lot worse than in the previous games. Take technology for example, you have two techology trees that are both divided into three subtrees, for no reason all of them are on a different page so it's a lots of shuffling through them to find what you'd like to get. The game is filled with minor inconveniences like that and they start to add up.

Ok, so I'm not a bit Total War player, I played a bit of Rome 1, and some Shogun 2. Despite that I'm fucking love Shogun 2, it is the perfect Total War game. It is Weeboo mang, nothing beats it. The graphics are very nice, it runs smooth now, nice music etc. But Rome 2 look like a step backwards. Although I only fiddled with it in the prologue, i don't like it very much. The UI is a travesty, the graphics has all kinds of shitty effects, yet it doesn't look as good as in Shogun 2 IMO. The optimization is horribad. I'm curious what will I find in the campaign, but I'm not holding my breath.

Put it away for now, it's a mess.

Just removed the game from inventory half an hour ago, threw a custom battle together and man is this game ugly or what. Shogun 2 was gorgeous in comparison. Even Medieval 2 had more charm than this jagged, piss-filtery bullshit.

Wow... the game is hideously optimised, and as others have said, looks worse than Shogun 2. I am holding out hope for the patch, but I'm really disappointed.

Well the point of RTW2, it's only reason for existence, it's raison d'etre is that it is RTW1 with better graphics. It's basically made for people who can't wait anymore for Europa Barbarorum 2. Entering the game with any other mentality will lead to disappointment.

What a terrific game Europa Barbarorum was. Can't think of another total conversion that beats it.

You can learn more History playing EB than you would taking a college course on the classical period.

Definitely worse than Shogun2, but still I enjoy playing it. Some people said that it lacks "another turn" syndrome, and it's definitely not truth in my case. Few patches and mods will probably adress most of the flaws. I've already downloaded one mod(4turns:1year instead of 1:1 ratio)

Even though it's not really too appealing to me right now, I definitely feel that the game has enormous potential. The campaign AI seems quite aggressive (playing as Rome, Julia family), I just lost a city near Rome when a whole fleet of ships invaded it. It was a pretty impressive sight to see them all disembark and take my poorly defended city.

So far I'd say that Shogun II was better than this, and they've definitely made a couple of decisions that I'm mixed about, the AI ain't nothing to sing about (I managed to kill a Carthaginian General's Elephant bodyguard by putting two units of peltasts next to it and just fucking raining fire onto it while it just scurried back and forth, not really knowing whether or not to charge or run away), and the graphics are somehow a fucking step down from it's predecessor. It isn't Empires bad, but it feels like a step down in alot of areas. Hope patching can salvage most of it.

Guess the best way of saying this is that I'm just content with what I got. Not wow'ed, not extremely disappointed, just content.
