Apart from the sea battles, improved graphics and abundance of smaller factions this seems like a step back from Rome. What really sealed the deal for me is the tech tree. No mention of the importance on roads and infrastructure for Roman conquests? Seriously?
I think the light cav was actually walking towards the archers, so there was a lot of fuck ups in that vid like the archers not pulling back unless the guy purposely put them on don't fall back and the fact that because the cav was walking and never even activated the charge within small range animation it didn't even notice them and just got caught in the walking through and getting diced. So it's not so much battle speed as it is proof that the AI seems to already be more retarded than normal. The powers are indeed horrible. Flaming javelins everywhere(I know they were used by Iberians, occasionally), and "poison" catapults. We had rotting cows/heads in MTW2, but they never did much(slight morale hit) and were insanely inaccurate, only appropriate for a siege really(which according to the other video will last about 5 minutes!). It's depressing that because of the speed of their battles, a group of light cavalry can't charge some javelin throwers before taking 3-4 or more volleys and rout. I mean, that is what light cav is supposed to do, charge down auxiliary troops.

I have never liked the tech tree approach. Individual city "tech trees" was much more involved and a better representation imo.
This. Most of the strategic management and army movement in the TW games Rome I and on feel like 90% busywork and 10% strategic planning. You spend too much time on the campaign map and not enough time fighting battles.Honestly i would most like if they just returned to medieval 1 and shogun 1 type of campaign map.
likely sell like hotcakes.
likely sell like hotcakes.
The average manboon mouthbreather wouldn't know how to deal with the campaign map, classify it as nerd shit and go back to COH 2.
Rome 2 pre-orders “six-times” that of last Total War game, series had 2 million sales in 2012
SEGA has announced that Total War: Rome 2 is the fastest pre-ordered Total War game to date, with over six times the number of pre-orders its first official week compared to Shogun 2.

I would like to add Knights of Honor like campaign map. It is realtime withParadox EU: Rome style political mechanics and CK character building. Alea Jacta Est style supply, movement, fortification and recruitment. Rome: Total War style campaign and battle map integration and city management. Recent Total War battle mechanics. It would be glorious.
