Ok so three news:

1- Mercenaries mode has been datamined and the playable characters are confirmed through renders (Leon,Luis,Hunk,Ada,Wesker,Krauser). Maps are unknown though. Free DLC, releases April 7th

2- Data regarding the Assigment Ada has been also found, so there's a DLC in the works almost 100%. It's unknown if it will be a pay DLC or not.
3- Ada, Ashley and Hunnigan models have been extracted from the game. So you can start to find good smut on the internet. :positive:

watched someone play it and there's absolutely no atmosphere. the original was oppressive and creepy, nowhere to be seen here
Original RE4 was oppressive and creepy? I must've missed it.
Eh it kind of was. It starts off you vs an entire village. That starting sequence really sets the tone with swarms of them coming for you, even a dude with a chainsaw if you hide in a house, before you get saved by the bell. There's an air of mystery as everyone goes to play bingo then creepy plaga starts bursting from people's heads. The music that plays in the village as it gets dark is pretty memorable despite the simplicity of composition. If the devs were slightly more stingy with the checkpoints as per prior RE and other 90s console classics you'd have definitely felt the oppression, and fewer would complain that it isn't survival horror enough. For how action-oriented it is it does still have a pretty respectable survival horror base, but it is all undercut by the generosity of the checkpoints. Typical game design decline of the 2000s.

Also, how does a RE4 thread get to 34 pages without this masterpiece getting posted?

The section between Leon's waking up (After monstruo del lago bossfight) and until you reach the castle with Ashley is my favourite from the original RE4.

Right now I have the remake saved in that point (I just rescued Ashley).

You can't talk about creep level and not mention the regenerators. You guys might be some pipe-hitting motherfuckers ain't 'fraid o' nothing, but I still remember every almost encounter with those assholes.

Codex 2016 - The Age of Grimoire Grab the Codex by the pussy RPG Wokedex Strap Yourselves In Codex Year of the Donut Shadorwun: Hong Kong Divinity: Original Sin 2 Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag. Pathfinder: Wrath I helped put crap in Monomyth
Just got to the castle and I'm enjoying it a lot. Feels harder than the original. Ganados seem to react much faster and be a lot more aggressive.

In particular, the cabin siege with Luis took me a few tries to get past.

I had heard the Regenerators get overhyped by e-celebs for years before I had ever actually played the game, so unfortunately they didn't strike that much of a chord with me. They are really cool enemies, though. Their theme, the noises they make, their animations, all of it's really great and creepy.

For me, the scariest part of RE4 was trying to 5-star every level in Mercenaries mode and having the giant chainsaw guys chase after you. Seeing one of those fuckers barrel towards me from across the map made my ass clench more than anything else in the series, even if it's mostly because I knew they would instantly ruin my perfect 5-star score attempt.

Am I the only one who has never cared for the Mercenaries mode in RE games?

I mostly remember playing them just to get the cheat weapons.

Yeah most things lose their edge when you expect them. Horror games need to be something you go in blind.

They're pretty fun. You should give them a shot. RE4, 5, and 6 all have great combat. I never got into RE3's mercenaries mode, though, despite it being the first. There are some people who are really good at that one.

You know what Resident Evil really needed? MMO tier side quests. Sure shooting the blue medals to get that pistol in base re4 was pretty stupid but here they've really improved on the formula. On your quest to save the presidents daughter don't forget to kill 3 rats!
I blame the zeitgeist. There's the idea in videogame communities and media that linearity in games is a bad thing. So everything now must have exploration and backtracking. Fuck this nonsense, RE4 was good because it was linear.

Does Verdugo still wave his finger "No" in the remake? It only happened to me once on the PC port. I had to look it up just now to make sure I didn't imagine it.

I'm playing it and it feels like RE4 but improved. Can't argue with that. If you enjoyed RE4 there's absolutely no reason you wont enjoy this unless you're some kind of spastic retard. This is exactly what a RE4 remake needed to be.

I still say RE3 looks better.

Lol I never seen that before and I probably played through the Gamecube version 4 or 5 times.

Anyways I seen enough to review it.

I've found it to be easier than the original so far especially due to the more responsive aiming and movement.

Except for the regenerators. It feels like they've made them a lot more dangerous.

"Capcom did a good job" This has to be satirical? RE4 remake is just Laziness of the highest order. There's no innovation to be found here, it's just business as usual for the gaming industry and you give them a free pass by saying "It's RE4, this is all we needed, Capcom did a good job".

And to add insult to injury it's just another 3rd person action shooter, just like every RE game in recent memory has been. Do you just like eating the same flavor food day in and day out?

If Crapcom actually made the effort to make 8k resolution pre-rendered backgrounds using the RE engine that would actually be something impressive and a bit innovative at this point. But why should they bother to change direction when they can churn out the same thing over and over again and you Fanboys just eat it up and call it a masterpiece?

Fans of the originals have absolutely nothing to look forward to anymore except for this endless slop that somehow wins awards.

Not counting Dino Crisis, Haunting Grounds, and the dozens (hundreds?) of other RE clones that were churned out over the years

None of those games are younger than 20 years old and one of them isn't even Resident Evil.

But nice try.

And I don't give a shit about RE clones. This topic is about Resident Evil, stop trying to get Crapcom off the hook.
