1. What the fuck is Fig? Why not use Kickstarter?
Faggots in Gaming

What are you homophobic?

Kickstarter is full of racists who hate white people and that's why they don't use it anymore.

Guys, spare your money, if this is successful, and it will be, Fargo and Obsidian are next, maybe you want to save your meager savings for them.

It's pretty weird that they decided to bring Tim's game as the first big project given all the drama from Broken Age and the Spacebase game.

Hardly. As usual with this sort of thing, most of the drama comes from concern trolls and outrage farmers who didn't even back previous DF games anyway.

I know this for a fact, because most of the edgy whiners are so hellbent on proving BA and Massive Chalice were scams, they evidently don't realize that both games did eventually came out, to decentish reviews, and delivered on what was promised.

Spacebase obviously was a scam. But anyone with 2 brain cells would realize, that it was cancelled simply because it bombed financially to such an extent, that nobody even knew it existed before the cancellation and shiststorm that followed.

GGers are mostly butthurt at Schaefer because of that sockpuppet joke he made at GDC. You know this because they don't even bring up actual morally suspect moves by DF, like waiting for the Massive Chalice KS to end before admitting to problems with Broken Age's development, or putting Spacebase DF-9 on sale right before announcing ending its development. Just more proof they care more about people insulting their precious little tribe than ethics or SJWs or whatever the fuck else the claim to be about. :smug:

Giving Schaefer money is still a risky venture to say the least, though.
People constantly talk about Spacebase DF-9 when it comes to DF, that's what completely killed any trust on Schafer.

Also, nobody even knows Massive Chalice existed.

Funding today between $100-$200/minute during peak hours, compared to $500-$1K/minute yesterday. Still haven't hit the halfway mark.

Bard's Tale 4 Reduxx.

What?

Well they did, didn't they? BA was supposed to be classic point-click, and they've done that. Massive Chalice was supposed to be wacky-turn-based-whatever, and they've done that. User reviews for both games are pretty solid. You'll probably say most people are idiots and couldn't tell a turd if it hit them in the face, but objectively speaking most people actually got what they wanted.

I don't know if you are being serious or not, but what I written in this thread is how I really feel and what I really think, I wasn't trying to "impress" anyone nor was I trying to anger anyone. That is just what I thought, however little or no worth my thoughts might have. Just since it was obvious that I am one of those "tryhards" with recent join dates you were talking about...

BT4's goal was almost three times smaller. Even if they're twice as successful as BT4 overall, they won't hit the 3.3 million goal. And so far they are making significantly less than 2X Bard's Tale numbers.

Dexter's probably right about angel investors stepping in if crowdfunding isn't enough. But isn't it generally accepted that 'just reaching the goal' actually means 'severely underfunded' in crowdfunding?

It's pretty clear in the videos that they have multiple external funding solutions and that crowdfunding/small investments is only a portion of the money that they will be receiving for the campaign.

Sounds like they currently have a single external funding source:

Double Fine will be putting up a significant portion of the development funds ourselves, and getting another piece of the budget from an external partner. This Fig campaign will make up the third piece of the budget. None of these three parts on their own is enough, but together they add up to a sequel worthy of Psychonauts!

At some point today the figstarter sprouted another 5 days to hit is goal.... Fig is so fucking shady it's unbelievable, they keep moving the goalposts around and adding mystery money.

I'm guessing it's to buy more time to get their shit together on the unaccredited investor thing. Quite why they had to rush to get the Figstarter out there before they'd figured that out I have no idea. Would Double Fine have gone bankrupt if they'd waited until after Christmas to get money?

No way I will give money to Tim. Not in this life. Not for another scam.

Anyway, the worst thing from this pitch is the artist Nathan Stapley. That retard will never be able to create something even remotely good.

Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin was announced today at PlayStation Experience, as a standalone PlayStation VR game coming to PS4 next year! It tells the story of what happens immediately after the end of Psychonauts which, as you know, was always left on a cliffhanger...

So it will be doubly exclusive, console and VR platform.
That's a different game, but yeah, I read that too.

Well I love Psychonauts, really love it, but I won't give any money for this after DFA. Best of luck to them then in creating a follow-up to something so ridiculously creative and unique.

His "KS shit" is nothing relative to real KS horror stories of developers going bankrupt without delivering anything at all. If that was the thing, you'd expect everyone to be at Neal Stephenson's throat for the disaster that was CLANG, not to speak of Yogsventure. Schafer comes off as really full of himself, which rubs people the wrong way, but he did deliver what he promised, albeit with delays and in two pieces. What he delivered was also a bit on the meh side, but honestly, so was Wasteland 2, and you don't see people line up to exclaim just how horrible Fargo is.

Being someone who actually releases shit, Schafer also wins by default over a certain Sargon of Akkad, whose kickstarted game continues to languish in development hell. :smug:

There's a lot of problems with Timmy. The main one is that he did a big bait and switch, constantly talking about Full Throttle and Monkey Island while planning all along to do something closer to Costume Quest or Stick Of Truth retardation.

The other is that he got way more money than Fargo did for example. He has a dev team and plenty of money, but what we got is basically shit in a sack and a slap in the face. I think WL 2 was not as good as Fallout but it is better than the original WL and it's about as good as can be expected for the time and money.

I was very pleased with the result, I think the people who were not pleased were expecting another fallout made for 90s budget by a company that had not made an RPG in ages and that's not terribly realistic.

But guys like yogventure etc. did even worse, true, but they got less money and had less real experience so it's not unexpected. And it's certain these guys won't be getting more money from insane retards.

After all the shit, somehow Timmy still gets people lined up to accept his load on their face.

Eh, Yogventures wasn't just a screwup, it was a borderline scam. They told their fans to donate so they could make this awesome game, and that they'd be teaming up with a company called Winterkewl to do it. Then when the money came through, they pocketed a big chunk (~$150k if I remember right) for "licensing fees," and told Winterkewl to make the game with the rest. Then they decided that they liked what they were seeing from another game, TUG, better than what they were seeing for Winterkewl, so they ordered Winterkewl to stop production (over Winterkewl's objections). Then they said that they weren't responsible for the game, since it was Winterkewl's Kickstarter (technically correct, though they didn't present it like that in the pitch), and kept the $150k in "licensing fees."

As for Clang, that was like DF-9 but worse (even more unplayable, and didn't release the source code last I heard). Also similar to Yogventures in the way that Stephenson was presenting it as his during the Kickstarter, and then disowned it as soon as there were any problems.

Molyneux actually comes off pretty well (I mean, given the absurdly low bar). He's gotten much more hate than a lot of these people, yet Godus is still being worked on and had it's focus changed to address criticism from the fans. The Double Fine Adventure Kickstarter also comes off decently well (again, relatively, and given that there was about once sentence regarding the game in the initial Kickstarter pitch). Of course, DF-9 showed that DF was happy to screw over fans for a quick cash grab.
