I don't blame people for liking Underrail more, it's a great game, and AoD has some flaws that can be really off-putting.

Right, and some people could say that no maps, tinny unreadable fonts, awful amount of backtracking, and bad writing are also off-putting.

Like all the things it has its own ups and downs, but the ups make this game public favorite

I don't get the Underrail vs AoD sperging. I voted for both and I won't put one above the other. Both deserve a place with the classics and both games' developers are worthy of praise for what they managed to acomplish. If it was up to me I would give both joint custody of the Codex' prestigious GOTY award. I'd even do a poll about that but I'm too lazy.

In comparison, Twitcher 3, PoE and SR:HK are garbage and need not apply.

At first I voted for Underrail too because I was unsure between it and The Age of Decadence and believed both were equally good in their own ways, then I started going through the Deep Roads... Caverns, and changed my mind. Considering how much Underrail's endgame is banal, shit and boring in its release version, The Age of Decadence definitively is the best RPG of 2015. At least in AoD there are multiple ways to do things in the endgame and no MMO/MOBA bullshit like cooldowns and infinite respawns.

"I'm voting x game for GOTY because it's the only game I've played this year." You people are a special kind of retard.

The alternative would be to simply not vote at all.

Which do you think is a better poll: A poll with contanimated data, or a poll with no data at all?

Until someone twist's felipepe's arm enough to organise another poll, any polls like these are gonna be biased towards games that have been played by the most people. Just have fun and take it with a grain salt.

FWIW, I've only played 4 of the games listed and I didn't bother to vote.

Now, Underrail - it seems Fallouty, is it like Fallout (focus on dialogues, CnC, roleplay) or is it combat focused ? I do not much care about combat in games.

The writing is terrible and the game has almost no reactivity, but the combat is great. The only Falloutish stuff in it are the post-apocalyptic setting and the perks.

Bubbles is right. If you want a game heavy in C&C with solid writing, try AoD.
I have tried AoD, finished it in fact, but for me the problem was that all this C&C and writing is presented in a "choose your adventure" format, together with the obnoxious teleport feature. And that killed all the fun for me in the end.

Neither Underrail nor Serpent in the Staglands are without their faults (and some of them are very annoying), but I enjoyed playing them, which is why they get my vote.

This may seem the most sensible option, but in the end its between these two so you should at least think if you don't truly prefer one over the other. I voted for both at first but then resolved to change my vote to AoD only, simply because I like C&C.

False choice. No data at all is not a likely scenario here. Why contaminate a poll on purpose if your opinion is not informed, do you get a cookie for participation ?

Obviously no one has played every game on the list but there are degrees of perspective and it should be common sense when to lean in with an educated opinion and when to hold your vote. This should be self-evident. The fact that I have to explain 1+1=2 only proves my original point.

Because we are being asked and most of us are interested in seeing (and contributing) to the outcome, not to mention that this is just a simple poll and not a academy-level process of nominees being considered for a vote before we get review copies being shipped to our door. The people "out on the streets" are being asked, so you'll get all kinds of answers.

The fact that you saw a reason to comment on how some voters were "retarded", and not the poll in its entirety, tells me that you completely missed the point: You're never gonna get a monocled consensus on this, so why bother tearing into other people and their votes?

You think too highly of gamers, even Codexers. If given the chance we will spout drivel, nonsense and get into pointless internet arguments about which games are better and why.

All I wanted to do was tell people where my vote was coming from, nothing more.

Grab the Codex by the pussy Divinity: Original Sin Torment: Tides of Numenera Shadorwun: Hong Kong Pathfinder: Kingmaker Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag. Pathfinder: Wrath I'm very into cock and ball torture
I cannot vote yet since I feel I haven't played enough of these yet (only finished Madman, ICY, Shadowrun Hong Kong and Pillars of Eternity thus far). Really looking forward to completing AoD, Underrail, Serpemts in the Staglands, and Undertale. Kind of curious about Hard West, Invisible Inc and Telepath Tactics.

Oh wow.... what a great year for RPGs.

I'm disappointed that a game with no c&c whatsoever and apparently (haven't played it, since no c&c) bad writing is the favourite of the Codex.
But hey, as long as y'all can shit on PoE for made-up bullshit reasons be sure to continue down the edgy route.

Underrail's writing is indeed quite horrible, but that's part of its Slavic charm. I don't think it's anywhere near as good as AoD either, but a lot of people really dislike CYOA-type gameplay.

Underrail has decent CNC, fairly complex and interesting quests (due largely to the excellent system and gameplay design), and the writing is miles ahead of Fallout (but not as good as Fallout 2, PST or Arcanum). A lot of Codexers have no idea about what writing is good, to the typical Codexer that likes Pillars of Shitternity:

Spot typographical error = bad writing
Overly descriptive text filled with lots of stupid and pointless adjectives and metaphors = good writing

Most people's dislike for the writing stems from the awkward sentence structure which is abysmal at times. The concepts are often quite good but the writing itself is generally bad -- even for a video game.

I did not play any new games this year, except PoE. I got everything else on Steam Sale or GOG.
