  • 10-15 h for main quest, 50-60h for side quests
  • 4 chapters
  • half open world with obstacles such as level of a river or road blockade
  • no play after finishing the main quest
  • 5,6 game ends, about 10 falloutlike slides for states for of the a world
  • main quest is quite linear
  • only few quest are fetch quests
  • exploring single map takes 20-30 minutes, and walking from side to side 1 minute

So, speaking of planning characters (Sensuki and similar), how does the cipher work mechanically?

I understand you need to do melee/ranged attacks to get focus and that these attacks do extra damage but my question is how. Is it a fixed damage increase or a scaling increase and how does it relate to grazing hits? And how does the damage done relate to focus gained(if at all)?

Should I be dual wielding daggers or swing a massive warhammer for optimal results?
I think you are going to want to go ranged (since you want to prioritize might and intellect). The focus generation is a fraction of damage done (I think). I'm not sure about the second part, it might be covered in one of the threads on the official forum.

Yeah, saw that coming. Even the world map has linear progression like Icewind Dale, except with a couple of paths off to the side. Not a fan of that personally.

Use a gun lol.

It's a percentage. There's a talent that gives you an integer +2 bonus to Focus per hit which is amazing with a Blunderbuss, because it applies on every blunderbuss shot that hits (Blunderbusses fire 8 bullets per shot)

Not sure if I should pick GoG or Steam version. Steam is more Decline, but is it better for patching?
Steam is much better for patching. Not only can it patch automatically while you're at work or whatever, GOG often takes days to publish a patch at all.

Steam has issues GOG doesn't, of course, but for patching convenience, Steam is by far the way to go.

Focus gained is based on damage done (1/4 or 1/2 depending on who you ask). Arquebus makes a good focus generator I've found as it's very high damage per shot. You only need to use it once or twice in combat to keep you going...

Aren't you breaking your NDA as you say this? :P

Can you access Defiance Bay right after Gilded Vale?

Not sure what to make of the short main quest length, if it is accurate at all.

I think the embargo is lifted now...

This post says 2 pm CET. I think it's 4.52 pm CET right now.

I haven't even got past Gilded Vale. I got there, saved my game and then I've been doing my guide.

I believe I've said a lot less than any press outlet :P

Didn't Anthony Davis say on his stream that one Obsidian dev ran through the main story in 25 hours by skipping all the dialogue and rushing through it?

Infinitron Zed it's neither of those...I meant that I've seen something very similar somewhere else before but can't put my finger on it where.

It's written in the article that those 50-60 hours for side quests are only if someone explores and reads much.
Also exploring single map takes 20-30 minutes, and walking from side to side 1 minute
