Actually, with a cruiser it might be better to put torpedoes aft. I had a fight where I forgot to decrease speed and constantly had enemies on my tail, unable to turn properly to fire head-on. They got quite a few torps in the kisser though. One advantage of this is increased distance from enemy ship when it goes critical. Of course, this is untested, I'll try it out once I'm done researching my new ship gear.

By the way, speaking of daily Dilithium gathering so far I've found:
1. Starfleet exams - opposite duty office recruitment
2. Explore strange new worlds - some admiral dude hands that one out, goes hand in hand with collecting research components
3. Satellite repair - down in Pi Canis block, Xarantine sector

That's almost 1500 daily with minimum effort. Haven't tried user made maps yet.

Once you start getting the 'Investigate Reports' (the daily for Community Made Missions) follow this;

Easiest way is doing the Daily Quest (not sure if it starts after level 10 or what) where they pay you to play three Community Made missions.

Now this would be a hassle, but there are Community missions made solely to take advantage of this. My favorite are a series of quests involving worshiping/serenading the info-console across the hall from the transporters at Earth Space Dock. You can do all three in under a minute.

When you go to the Community missions screen, change the filter at the top from 'Top Rating' to 'Hot'. The esd series are near the top (first ten choices). Cheesy as hell, but this way you can save the good player created stuff for when you've run out of official content.

Well the 2800 event is ... kinda broken.

I liked I had Diplomacy options but once again, you need Rank 4 for them all, also the game failed to recognized I completed the mission.

Valkar has reached level 50, and is now the commanding officer of U.S.S. Gombe Stream.

This is the key to fighting the Borg.

The Defiant is in the game since I joined, its a Captain rank ship (along with the Galaxy class and the Intrepid class) and then there is Refit (with clock) at VA rank (C-Shop only).
They added the Defiant interior, I suppose the rare was the Defiant bridge that was not exactly like the Defiant but the Interior (named Belfast) is close to the show.

It's fun, and the free to play is handled in such a way that you're not crippled by playing for free unless you spend your skillpoints like an ape because respec is money only.

I've been sticking with my fleet escort since I hit 50. Been having more fun with fast pewpew than big fat cruisers. Mostly been picking at the romulan series of missions and flying around duty officering a bit, but I dumped hundreds and hundreds of crafting materials on a bro who leveled up to max on that, then he's gonna make himself an aegis set and I'll probably end up picking up one since from what I gather that's the best you can do until the borg loot. Then again I might not bother since I don't really PVP or anything, so eh. Even though I thought I'd be burned out on the game a few times I've kept poking at it.

Fuck the romulans though. Klingon ships are pussies compared to asshole romulans. Annoying escort ship that zips around and recharges shields and takes longer to kill than it should, and then jerk battleship or whatever it is that holds you with a tractor beam and then launches 5ish torpedoes. Only way I can survive that is either hit all my shield boosting powers at once and focus shields on that side, or make sure I'm presenting him my ass so I can trigger fire at will with my ass phasers to take out all the torpedoes.

Actually, what I heard was that the Aegis set is superior to the Borg set.

Also, to fight the D'deridex (the Romulan battleship), you'll need one of the following skills: Polarize Hull (science) or Attack Pattern Omega (tactical). These are the two abilities that can disable Tractor Beam. Fire At Will can take out the torpedoes, but you can just Tab target them if you're fast enough. Evasive Maneuvers can buy you time to fire at them.

Depending on what your class and play style are, it can be. The Borg set is attractive for Sci-based ships, those who want the sector based speed boost, or those speedy buggers who go for Regenerative Shields over Convariant.

My Federation Engie qualifies for none of those (Trans+QSD gets him there quick, and he likes big shield caps and he cannot lie...especially in conjunction with Engie shield abilities), so Aegis is right up his alley.

The key to fighting this bugger for me was fairly simple - keep your distance. 5km or more and you're golden. The only time he managed to whack me was when he decloaked right on top of me and unloaded before I could react. Otherwise, fire at will or tabbing individual torpedoes (a turret comes in handy here) and pummel him from a distance. He couldn't outrun my cruiser.

It's pretty cool. As far as I can tell, Jaesun is butthurt over nerfing klings so they don't roflstomp starfleet anymore. I don't care about PvP so that's not an issue. Your mileage may vary.

Anyway:
Pros:
- don't need to grind levels, advancement through story missions is quick (I'm lvl 45 - 50 is the cap - and I've only gone through 2,5 story arc out of 6(!)
- don't need to find teams for story missions, you can solo them
- no f2p grind to advance required
- f2p play crippling is very subtle (LOTRO is my point of reference)
- geek rush at getting new ships is awesome
- some story missions are quite good
- switching ship classes offers a very refreshing change of pace

Cons:
- some things feel somewhat unfinished/unpolished
- VA is uneven, or sometimes curiously absent (see previous point)
- beginner area doesn't do much to tech you about the ropes, you might want to read up on stuff on the wiki before you go dumping skill points here and there
- they seem to be doing a whole lot of server maintenance
- space feels a bit crowded

I'm probably forgetting a whole bunch of stuff I should have posted here but tl;dr the pros outweigh the cons by a large margin.

Speaking of me being lvl 45 and shit - WHERE'S MY GODDAMN PROMOTION?!

I can build Aegis stuff (well, and any other craftable), but finding the resources for them is tough. Any advice on how to collect this shit easily?

The B'Tran Cluster drops what you need. I already built an Aegis set for myself, and it roxxorz my soxxorz.

Anyone know how to deal with the fucking Breen cone of cold attack that party wipes if you aren't spread out?

I see the issue with Aegis stuff...Uncommon unreplicable parts for 1000 dilithium each. 54 of them are needed for the set.

Ouch. That will take awhile.

Yeah, it takes quite a bit. Fortunately the day before I'd resold all the Cryptic Points I'd managed to acquire through the Dil Exchange. Thanks to prices being a full 60-70 per point above what I initially traded (that mad rush for keys to open the Lock Boxes), I made a huge profit and had a surplus to buy the Common and Uncommon Unreplicatable stuff.

It really was worth it, though. Your ship looks awesome, the equip itself is very good and the powers can save your ass.

Btw Genma, I'm willing to finance your Spacejew's dream: Latinum Pile trophy.

Also, Vlad needs promoting above recruit. Similarly, I was thinking that it'd be good for our organization to promote me to one of the leaders of the fleet, since I'm in charge of the chat channel and am online way more than I should be.
