I'll be surprised if it isn't an "informal announcement" of their Kickstarter project.

I know nothing about the Wheel of Time except that it is (probably) round and the series was written by Michael Jordan. I would be willing to catch up on the novels if this game was indeed set in the same universe, but I'm lazy, and I'd rather not bother, so I'm really hoping this is a new IP and the game turns out good.

I will sum it up for you:

Clearly Brother None is being teasingly disingenuous about getting the D&D licence and this is going to be The Black Hound. Which Buck once interviewed Josh Sawyer about on Gamebanshee. I literally cannot see any other possible explanation. The dirge sounds as if it's about grief, which is an emotion, like guilt. You can see where it all fits together with a little self-delusion.

Fuck if it is Wheel Time. FUCK. SHIT FUCK SETTING

If it is the black hound i'm game.
Obsidian, just take a page from KotC and use the Open Game Licence. WTF, no one cares about D&D anymore, fuck them and just go with a homebrew setting inspired by celtic myths.

I don't tend to give myself to this teaser stuff, but one thing comes to my mind:

None of the proposed settings do have a particularly strong celtic/irish connection (maybe with the exception of Family Guy :M ).
Of course, there's always the possibility of an american-style fantasy mash-up happening, but otherwise I'd guess it's a new IP (or otherwise something different from the assumptions here that's unknown to me and/or most others).

You know, I'm looking forward to Obsidian announcing a game someday without doing the teaser thing first.

Nah, BN already confirmed it wasn't Wheel Of Time.

He also said this thread's definitely 'in the right forum', which backs up this article claiming the game's going to be a PC exclusive.

Gee, I wonder who slipped Kenneth that "insider information"? :D

...so when he reported that he had 'insider information', he actually meant 'Infinitron from my Ultima site told me he'd read someone else from Gamebanshee making hints that could be read as suggesting that it's a PC-only game, maybe, in a forum thread, on the Codex'? Please tell your friend he's living up to the highest standards of gaming journalism. In, you know, the mocking, pejorative sense. :P

To tenDernEss, FellowshIp. To fellowship, vigilANCE. ?

EDIT:

we have an older pitch that we really like called "Defiance" which is about a fantasy world where, basically, Sauron won. Everything isn't happy in The Shire, they didn't get the ring in the fire and the hobbits are all dead.

And we actually pitched them an original IP, which was a game called Defiance. (I would love to be able to make it at some point.) The idea behind Defiance was that we kind of took the alternate [route] that intead of like, "happy Lord of the Rings land" in which the evil people get killed and the ring gets thrown into the volcano - what happens if Sauron won? So, [it was the idea of] making a whole fantasy world based off of: "What does Sauron become, and what does the world become, if Sauron won?" We had been talking about that, but it was a big-budget project. And so at that point, as we start to get into late 2008 and 2009, the "badness" occurs with the economy.

- "To fellowship, vigilance." could remind one of the Fellowship of the Ring etc.
- "The Dirge of Eír Glanfath" does sound very Tolkienesque
- "I am the Spindle of Esenath. Know me by my light and stand with me in darkness." could remind of the scene with Gandalf and the Balrog... if you squint really hard.

This will either be major incline or irrelevant meh.

I'm hoping new BG, as the "4" makes no sense for IWD. Also, maybe Fargo has some deal with avellone for making a new Bard's Tale?

If it does turn out to be Wheel of Time, i'll sexually assault Brother None so hard his anus will look like an inflated bin liner

I'm hoping for something interesting, like a pc exclusive crpg in an interesting setting with good gameplay mechanics (fun). Hopefully it won't be some pretentious meta bullshit. And hope for TB.

But it can go either way... Either meh... Or glorious :incline:.

Hm, 4 could be something internal, as well, like "Project 4", e.g. their 4th story driven cRPG.

Although, does that make sense? I'm too lazy to look it up right now.

The 4 is probably a countdown.
