Roguey But I thought Sawyer really liked some of the characters he had created in IWD1-2, like Maralie Fiddlebender and Iselore.
Aren't they kind of FR-specific?

Josh Sawyer's NWN2 Black Hound mod wasn't going to use anything D&D related, not even rules. He didn't want to make a Forgotten Realms fan-fic and was always against it being "Baldur's Gate 3." He also likes to make his own systems. Here's a post he made about the changes he was making to weapons and armor: http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/45749-the-black-hound-faq/page__st__260#entry806600

while it's true that he was against the naming scheme of baldur's gate, which interplay had to use because together with iwd it was the only license left to release a wotc product, josh clearly used dnd references. even his module was full of them. the black hound is based in the dalelands and centered around dnd factions.

While trying to track down intellectual properties I ran across this article.

Urquhart also said that Obsidian is at work on a licensed IP. "There actually is another game that I can't talk about at all," he said. "It's a licensed product that when people hear about it, they're going to be 'well you had to do that. There's no option, if I was a developer and I was offered that, I would just do it.'"

Also a reference to the Defiance game that has been mentioned elsewhere.

Infinitron Those were cameos, thus not important.

Semper That's an ancient thread. By 2009 he had decided to excise all FR-related elements.

that's a reference to south park which was later announced. it's not about defiance.

Roguey: could you please quote the relevant posts? in 2009 josh delayed the mod because of time interfering with other projects. never saw something like getting rid of dnd stuff.

@topic: could those concepts from brian menze be related? pic1; pic2
both are from an internal side project. could be xbla or defiance.

My mistake! Soz. I guess I'll find out tomorrow if EPITHETS is way off. :M

don't think so. i have the feeling that it's somehow connected... a story about death and guilt fits the atmosphere of those teaser quotes nicely. they only have to leave faerun behind and step into defiance.

They know nothing about the game and were just trolling.
I can't wait for posting TOLD YOU SO. ;-)

Camelot also doesn't really make sense. Someone over at their forums think the Xs are consonants and periods are vowels. Doesn't make sense any other way, unless they're using two letter words.

There aren't many words that fit if this is the case. Ran an analysis through WyrmAI v0.73, here are the results:

epithets
eyespots
eyeshots
isopleth
isohyets
overbets
overcuts
overlets
oversets
overwets

Of these, "epithets" certainly seems more likely than the others. (It should be noted, however, that Wyrmie's syntactical algorithms were not updated to account for hyphenated words and proper nouns until v0.77.)

I agree that it doesn't make much sense any other way - if we start with the assumption that the dots and Xs all represent characters, that is. Could be, for example, that the other text is a riddle hinting at a word and by removing the letters that correspond to the dots you'll come up with another word. E.g.,

Code:
  LAMBASTE
- .X.XX.XX
= A BA TE

OTOH, perhaps the dots and Xs are a red herring and what we really need to figure out is the significance of "Spindle of Esenath" being an anagram of "don the false penis".

I really hope this is a new IP. What I'm really aching for is something fresh and new.

Black Hound not shoehorned into Baldur's Gate/Forgotten Realms would count. That's my hope and bet, anyway.

I just realized I would absolutely love an Avellone RPG set in the Star Trek universe during DS9. Especially the early years before the Dominion shows up. Political intrigue, racism, the threat of war, all the other civilizations worried about being culturally absorbed by the Federation.

And make Section 31 joinable instead of antagonists. :smug:

wisely, @Feargus brought in two plaid shirts today for filming. #beprepared

Kickstarter pitch?

Well... Josh already recorded a video of something. He posted pictures of it on twitter. Never disclosed what it was.

Guys, Ouroboros is a symbol of an endless cycle or rebirth.

A word that fits the .X.XX.XX '.-is-vowel, X-is-consonant' pattern is 'eternity'.

I'm 99% convinced now it IS the KS Project (which seems odd, as I would assume they would do this after WL2), based of Josh mentioning filming.

Also there is NO publisher on Earth that would fund a single player PC exclusive...Fantasy RPG. None. I wonder if this is possibly parts from the 7 Dwarves project that they pitched but no Publisher would touch with a 100' pole?

An nice find, It probably is called Eternity. This would be the PEFECT theme for the game. It's even called Eternity Ring. :D

All indications are that the Federation does not interfere with planetary culture or governance except in times of martial law. The Vulcans are still allowed to have ritual fights to the death and their own fleet, the Bolians have a sector defining banking system, you can see a number of Federation members insulting other member species' cultures, Humans seem to care about their culture a lot more than they do now, and Ardana even had a caste based system in TOS era (which indicates that the Federation never even bothered to research them). The only reason the Federation seems so homogenous is because the viewer is mostly presented Starfleet, which understandably has its own set of rules and regulations. Even then, you can clearly tell a number of Starfleet personnel are deeply in tune with their own culture. All that we know is required of a member planet is for it to have equality under the law, faster than light travel, and political unity (no warring countries). The narrative of the big, bad root-beer drinking monolith comes from characters who are not exactly trustworthy or well travelled.

It's not that the Federation doesn't have petty or insane tyrants, in fact they have plenty, but they're all Admirals or lost in the Delta Quadrant. There are also some lifeless lunatics who want to be super spies and hold the Federation together by any means necessary, but they can barely hold their marriage together.

I think it's smarter to do the KS project early before any of the kickstarter projects release their games. Wasteland 2 will probably be one of the last ones finished since most other projects got less money. And once some of those weaker games are released and suck, people are probably going to be less likely to invest in a kickstarter after that.

Plus Fargo is probably going to want to kickstart Wasteland 3 after 2 is released.

No idea what 'Eternity' might relate to, mind. I just do cryptography, not market analysis.

There is an Eternity RPG being produced for a late 2012 release from Magpie Games, with a focus on deities and religions: http://www.magpiegames.com/eternity-rpg/

Also, .X.XX.TX could be (and this is a real reach) 'onyxpath', referring to Onyx Path publishing, a company related to White Wolf Games - who, among other things, sell books for Exalted, another RPG about deific champions and weirdness.

But I'd be very surprised if either of those had anything to do with this. Neither feel right.
