If this will be at 299$ then it will sell good (something like 60-100mln)

They hinted at a new 3D Mario (as in Mario 64) and a new Mario Kart, so that's something.

But yes, the launch lineups for Nintendo consoles have sucked for pretty much every single one of them past the N64. It's not even that hard: Mario, Zelda, Metroid, some party game that's not Mario Party, a racing game (can overlap with the party one) and you're halfway there.

Yeah, after big hits like PS4 and XBOX1 we really need more regular consoles.
The PS4 is selling like hotcakes just for you to know. And regular console or not, I want a machine I can play decent game on after coming home from a long day. Not taking the screen with me with 2 controllers. When I can bring a good tablet which is capable to run a lot of great games.
Can the tablet play the latest Zelda? Because that is what we are dealing with here, really.
I would think it can. I'm guessing their selling point is that the tablet can run all their games on the move, after all they showed Skyrim.

Interesting. Stationary and handheld consoles would inevitably merge sooner or later, it's just that my money was on later.

Sorta reminds me of a realistic Project Ara, not sure why tho.

Question now is price.

If this will be at 299$ then it will sell good (something like 60-100mln)
If this will be more than 299$ like 399 or 499$ then it is KIA
I think it's a pretty safe bet they'll keep it cheap. That's been their strategy for a while.

Also as far as hardware is concerned, it doesn't look like it has anything really impressive. The main selling point is more the concept itself (just like the Wii).

Merging handheld with TV is a good idea, I expect many a mainstream gamer in love with the concept of playing Skyrim on the go. Support from third-party publishers is already a success on its own, since Nintendo was suffocating on mostly in-house development.

Supposedly the CPU/GPU is based on some new iteration of nVidia Tegra and should be more or less as powerful as XBONE/PS4 (not PS4 Pro), but we will see. Maybe the docking station has some processing power of its own. Flash-based cartridges are definitely :incline: , especially if they will have good data read speed.

I'm curious about the cartridges. How much can fit on them? I know the initial change to CDs for consoles was based on storage capacity. Have things changed now?

Wrong. Console makers changed from cartts to disc because of :

a) it is waaaaay cheaper
b) it is easily produced (remember that earlier publishers had finite amount of cartriges to fill vs infinite discs)

As for moder cartriges. They hold up much more data than discs eirther way and are waaay faster than discs. Though like before they are costly to produce.

Well that looks like fun.

Actually this would work for most of Nintendo games. They do simple controls.
Mario cart has 2 buttons + steering (slide and accelerate)
Various marios have basically moving and 2 buttons (run/shoot + jump)

Naturally this won't work for 90% stuff out there.

It's going to be too huge to hold for handheld gaming, the battery life will be really low, the screen will suck, and hardcore gamers won't want to play games with downgraded graphics when they have more powerful systems. That was a mistake.

Love the guy who can't even put the game down for a minute to walk his dog.
At least they abandoned motion controls.

But the best one is the team of dudebros who are playing basketball on the court, and they stop playing just to go full nerd and play Nintendo immediately. Yeah, totally believable that players like them start playing Nintendo.

Lol@Hot girls bringing this to a party
Lol@Competitive Splatoon
Lol@30 yr old dude using this to pick up chicks
Lol@30 yr old dude playing SKYRIM
Yeah, I wonder why don't nerds score better at the hottest ladies if that commercial is true?

So they bought into this retarded fad of mixing shit that don't go together in one system. This is will go as well as Microsoft's tablet (mis)adventure with Windows 8. Hand held is hand held. A console is a console. By mixing the two you only get something that's mediocre at doing either job. The console will be underpowered and that controller looks goofy as fuck. The hand held will be cumbersome and unpractical.

I say it remains to be seen.

The docking station likely powers up the processing/graphics so not sure why it has to be one or the other.

It's a shame that Nintendo's leadership got into this "Nintendo has to be totally different from others" mindset after the Wii. Back int he days they created regular consoles with the NES, SNES and the Gamecube. And their kickass games made them successfull. Now, they try to be successfull through their gimmicky consoles, instead of concentrating on the games.

This. Do you guys really think that you will see tons of people in Tokyo trains playing with this, or with their smartphone? There goes your answer. Who the fuck is going to carry this big ass thing with him all day and whip it out to play a game of Skyrim while he is waiting for the subway to arrive? Are you guys serious?

Would have preferred a more powerful console, but Nintendo abandoning the motion and touch controls is great. Pro controller looks good, regular controller looks cumbersome, split controller on screen looks decent (better than PS Vita), split controller by itself looks goofy and way too small non japs. From the video it looks like Nintendo is going to force you to use the cradle to provide power and to connect to a display (probably some retarded proprietary connector), which is too bad since a portable console that could be connected to a display and powered by standard connectors would have utility. On the upside this being a low TDP Tegra SoC means that Nintendo will have the option of making revision early on, 10nm LPP/LPE will be available starting in 2017 and 7nm for low power should start some time in 2018, with a couple of revision the battery life could double. Overall still gimmicky, but looks better than all of the crap Nintendo made since the Gamecube/DS.

No.

They didnt want to use it for a simple reason, they controlled cartridge production as well so 3rd party publishers had to pay them as well, this also mean they had no real control over releases as they were stuck with cartridge production, only reason of the shift come with PlayStation since Sony was going to do it and so did Sega, Nintendo never wanted to use CDs or DVD or at least a standardized format, today are fucked because of the mode to digital storage.

Being cheaper was only a factor, in the end it was about publishers having control over production.

Loool, Skyrim isn't even confirmed!
PdW9kOM_700wa_0.gif

While Bethesda's much beloved Skyrim was clearly shown during Nintendo's Switch reveal video, the publisher told us today that it's not officially confirming the game just yet. "We're happy to have had the opportunity to collaborate with Nintendo on the video. While we are not confirming any specific titles at this time, we are pleased to announce our partnership with Nintendo and support of the Switch. We look forward to revealing specific games and details in the future," a spokesperson said. Skyrim Remastered is set to launch on October 28 for Xbox One, PS4 and PC; perhaps the Switch will receive a version of the Remastered game at launch?

They have Bethesda on their list of third parties and they showed Skyrim in the video. I'm guessing the remastered version will release on it. Nintendo needs third party support, getting R* will be another step.

I'm excited. I can finally play another mainline Monster Hunter game on a TV and not have to squint and look at giant fucking monsters on a teeny weeny screen.
