Hard pick. Todd is high up on that list since his games have apparently become the prime influence on the whole industry. FPS with stats is the new platformers. While it's not really his fault, I can't help but feel that he should be locked up because of his achievements. Fallout 3 and Oblivion have single-handedly decided how the cRPG genre is going to evolve in the next couple of years. With great power comes great responsibility, douchebag.

David Gaider, because even BioWare fans rage against him on the DA boards themselves.

Relatively speaking, we on the Codex have treated him nicely.

Like I said, my vote is for Peter "RPGs should be so dumbed down that a 5 month old can beat them" Molyneux.

In fairness, Moly's 'rpg'-endeavours were more overtly console-arcade-kids'-adventure than the proclaimed replacement for fallout. And Molly didn't claim that Fable 2 would be anything but a casual-focussed console game. I just can't put him in the same league as Todd; ultimately PC gaming would be no better or worse if Molyneux hadn't done the Fable games, whereas Todd's Bethesda proclaimed themselves to be the 'hardcore rpg' guys and killed / dumbed down that end of the market.

Not to mention that Moly made some truly fantastic games before he went senile - Todd doesn't have a single good game to his belt, let alone something in the league of Dungeon Keeper or Populous.

I gotta see this. Where? My common experience of Bioware forums are people asking whether or not the character can jump and swim.

I don't hate anyone, and Peter Molyneux seems like a very nice man with ideas. Some ideas are great, some are not, most of the ideas don't really turn out well but that's okay. I like Lionhead's games because although they're very shallow they're not boring or terrible to play. If you think they are, I think you somehow miss the point of games.

Heck, while I'm outside of my Andyman-persona, I want everyone to know that I really like The Witcher and Mass Effect! I even like Fallout 3 when it's raining and there's nothing on TV! Yeah! Take that!

While Fable I was moronic, Fable II is one of the worst games and indeed one of the worst narratives to ever be unleashed upon mankind.

How the fuck do you get through a game like Fable, let alone Fable 2? I trudged through the tutorial and made it through a level until I hit a 'big boss' that was smacking the ground. I had to look up a walkthrough to find out that I have to 'deak and dodge him'. So I did, and it worked, and I also drank about five resurection potions that I didn't know I had (must have been the big chests).

I uninstalled it.

Anyways, carry on.

Real men don't hate. Real men love.
Young man, there's a place you can go.
I said, young man, when you're short on your dough.
You can stay there, and I'm sure you will find
Many ways to have a good time.

It's fun to stay at the Y-M-C-A.

Herve doesn't have mush of an influence now, but what matters is what he has already done. Without him, Black Isle may still be around and be releasing quality rpgs to this day. Fallout 3 would have actually been released. Think about that.

Maybe.

That's implying that Black Isle would have survived nextgen.

Of course it would have.

As if there isn't a market for those games. Commercial constraints are not an excuse. Many so-called niche games sell very well, and previous generation computer roleplaying games are hardly "niche". They have far more of an audience than what Paradox games have.

Turn-based combat games most certainly do sell quite well enough, and the last few RPGs with turn-based combat which tanked were Ruins Of Myth Drannor and Temple Of Elemental Evil. Was it really turn-based combat which hurt those games? Or was it the bugs, and many other issues that hurt the overall package?

Really, I don't think there is any mystical barrier that indicates that a combat system well accepted in other genres is uncommercial for RPGs themselves. Or that the conventions of BIS era games, which anyway formed the conventions of even recent RPGs anyway, would be out of place in this generation.

That sounds more like a best case scenario. I'm pretty sure if Black Isle was still around they'd be making third-person shooters just like Obsidian Ente--oh wait. Arcanum, the last great attempt at a classic crpg sold, what, 250 000 copies? Face it, the audience that like turn-based combat and 2d graphics are a dying generation.

edit: I'm not insane. I like to think of myself as a depressed pessimistic optimist-cynic unicorn pirate.
