Every time some new big RPG comes out, there's always some guys here who complain that there are too many threads on said game. But from my experience with the Bioware forums, I can't see how cramming everything into 800-page threads is any improvement. Trying to find a post which you read and liked is a nightmare when the next time you log in there are 200 more pages.

ME2 is a fun game.

It's more like a B-movie scifi action game, and in that regard I actually had fun with it.

The best things about ME2 are the top-notch Hollywood cinematics, the re-union of Shepard with his old companions (which also has most of its power still from skilled cinematography), good voice acting generally-- with some real standout moments, matched to dialogue that doesn't totally suck balls.

I didn't like ME2. It's not like a cheap Arnie film at all. It's the same boring box popup on every level. And every level is the same - Dodge bullets behind boxes.

And the revolutionary plot oh yes. The keepers, or whatever, are so much better an antagonist than the Geth ever were. It's the exact same plot as the first one, kill a shitload of uninspiring enemies. And I have to say, though it sucked cock, I didn't mind the occasional variety of riding around in a fucking retardedly made tank, to just fucking playing dodge em's constantly. Not to mention, Saren was a more interesting endgame boss than Terminator clone.

It's like when I used to read "graphic novels" when I was about 12 and thought they were pretty cool. Even at that age I could tell the difference between a glorified comic book and a real novel, but the naked pictures made all the difference. When I was that age.

The Mass Effect games, like the KOTOR games before them, are pretty good examples of what they are. Which is the "graphic novels" of the computer game industry. I'd be a hell of a lot happier if Bioware invested the same amount of resources into making more mature RPGs (there are more than enough games for the 12 year old crowd as this list amply demonstrates) but they obviously are uninterested in that. I'd be hoping for somebody new to come along and make classic-style RPGs again, but at this late date I know even if that does happen they'll just do the same thing everyone else has done in the past after achieving moderate success and decide to dumb their stuff down for the mainstream market, anyway. It seems to be just too easy to simplify an RPG and market it to fans of other genres for developers to resist. I really wish they'd at least stop insulting my intelligence by claiming them dumbing their stuff down is an improvement that I should be happy with, though.

There isn't enough "action" in the Mass Effect games for them to be "action RPGs". At least 60% of the game is spent navigating dialogue trees, and another 20% plus is non-combat related questing. I doubt most people get 5 minutes of combat per hour played, on average. On what planet could that qualify as an action-RPG?

What they are closest to when it comes to traditional genres is "adventure games", but I posit that Bioware had created a new genre which is "interactive cinema". Or something.

More like they are incapable in that. There's one thing that one should know about tards, it's that they don't know that they are tards. Just like Volo. They think everything is just fine with them - if anything, the other guy's the problem. Bioware not only think their design decisions are good ones (where all they do is justify their laziness with negative, uninspiring premises like "a player doesn't play a game more than once" and "think about the ressources before writing a game" ) but they also think they write well. Their linear stories are supposed to be the main attraction of their games. I don't know if you quite realise the horror of such a thing. Bioware writing is obviously hollywood shit, their writers have the culture of boots, they find inspiration in Salvatore and Star wars novels. But this shit is hailed as the art of the medium. That is some scary shit.
