Don't get me wrong. When viewed as an RPG, ME2 is complete shit. I just can't view it as an RPG, though. It's more like a B-movie scifi action game, and in that regard I actually had fun with it.

I don't want ME2 to become the new standard for RPGs, and it sucks that Bioware has decided to go down that road, but I refuse to hate ME2 just because it isn't an RPG.

Although I will agree that ME2 recieves far too much hype, and much of it is outright bullshit. That does piss me off.

I have experienced one "cover shooter" already and I hated every second of its gameplay. It is not the implementation. It is the entire nature of this kind of game that is unfun and simply disappointed me. And there is no major difference between Gears of War, Mass Effect or Alpha Protocol or any other cover shooter for consoletards in regards to the basics. When the basics suck, anything derived from them will suck.

If I wanted an action game I'd rather a classical TPS or FPS, but those are also extinct. Of course some people enjoy shit games just as some love to see the "sex scenes" in ME, and they are currently the majority here, but I don't, and if I hated one game that follows a specific style of mechanics because of this style, I don't need to play all other similars to know I'll consider them frustrating and unenjoyable. Seriously, does a person that tried a game that is considered the representative of its subgenre and disliked it have to play every other variant and ripoff to know he'll equally hate them?

Sometimes it seems the Codex is as full of retardation as Bioware Social Forums. Funny how many people feel a sort of drive to justify themselves and defend game x or y every time someone criticizes them, usually with very idiotic "arguments" like claiming Stealth in AP is as good as in Thief III, and then pretend they aren't a bunch of retarded fanboys.

There are people on the codex who will go out of their way to constantly point out that any game they don't like is retarded and has no redeeming features whatsoever. To me that's just as bad as blind fanyboyism because it quashes any actual critical discussion about the game, but since hating things is cool around here, people get away with it.

Games like ME2 and NV have many flaws we could and do discuss, but some people around here not only refuse to see that, they also seem to think enjoying such games is a sign of retardation or "decline". If you have a problem with a game, that's fine. I don't much like military FPS games, but I don't shit all over ArmA every time someone mentions it.

It's a matter of balancing. All positivity needs an equal level of negativity to balance it out; the content or constructive quality of either matters not, all that matters is that when someone grudgingly admits that something has one or two good points, someone is there as soon as possible to bring balance to the Codex by calling them retarded cocksucking fanboy retard faggots. The best things about ME2 are the top-notch Hollywood cinematics, the re-union of Shepard with his old companions (which also has most of its power still from skilled cinematography), good voice acting generally-- with some real standout moments, matched to dialogue that doesn't totally suck balls.

As an actual game, the playing instead of watching part, you know; it's like its predecessor: thoroughly-- even masterfully-- mediocre.

And the plot is inexcusable. ME2 turns ME1 into a sort of game-long teaser trailer.

It does virtually nothing but introduce narrative superfluities and tread water for 30 hours so that it can re-introduce itself as a franchise to those who might have missed the first game, with the hope of creating a bigger potential consumer base for ME3.
