is there a reason you can actually see through him and other than the scissors emerging from the water it looks more like he's materializing out of thin air?

I don't think you can see through him, it's just the splashing of the water. But yeah the scissorman has something supernatural about him.

Oh fuck!! Will it threaten you with dark sorceries? Can be purged (although I suspect in this game you will never be able to kill your enemies until very late, if it's possible at all)?

you totally can in that sequence.
just open the images in two tabs and switch between them.
it's just his hands, top of what could be a head from above the scissors, the scissors, water splashes roughly forming a butterfly, and black dots forming the outline of a human.
you can clearly see the background through where the rest of his body should be, though without seeing it on the snes, it might just be an emu error.

I may try CT3 or Haunting Ground (something like a spiritual successor to CT as I understand) for the PS2 though, they seem ok games.

CT3 was fun, until the third boss or so, when they really ratchet up the difficulty. The bosses before that are fine, but it's the mechanic that is annoying. You have to shoot them with arrows, and depending on the how long you charge the arrow, a chain may or may not hold them in place, and the charge length determines how strong the chain is. Actually hitting them with these arrows does very little damage. So you have to shoot them with three or four fully charged shots, to get them chained in place. You have to do this quickly, as they fairly easily break the chains after some seconds. The annoying thing is, when charging your shot, you can't move. If you get hit, you pretty much have to start the chain making over. This is fine until they start throwing very fast bosses at you with ranged weapons.

If it wasn't for the boss fights, I'm sure I would've beaten the game, as it won a special spot in my heart when the one psycho dumped a guy and his blind elderly mother in a vat of acid. After watching a let's play, the final boss also looked unnecessarily hard, game endingly so.

Hey, that's what LP's are for :)
I thought it was all for the lulz. Was I mistaken?

Yeah that too, but for me it's mostly about forgotten gems I want to play and share with others.

NO TEARS FOR THE FALLEN

Welcome back to another episode of "Let's try not to be chopped to pieces by the maniac dwarf with the giant scissors". Who the hell is this guy really ? Who were those two children/things in that photo in the bedroom ? Is Ms. Mary one of the bad people ? Where is Ann and Lotte ? Should I be afraid of the guy that crops my lawn ?

Let's see if we can find some answers...

Code:
     __ _____ ___ _____ _ ___ _ _
  /\ \ \___ /__ \___ __ _ _ __ ___ / __\___ _ __ /__ \ |__ ___ / __\__ _| | | ___ _ __

\_\ \/ \___/ \/ \___|\__,_|_| |___/ \/ \___/|_| \/ |_| |_|\___| \/ \__,_|_|_|\___|_| |_|

Since we've found the west wing key, let's use it and get to the other part of the mansion. I wonder what's in that room...

Clock-Tower666.jpg

Mannequins ! Mannequins and horror games go together.

Clock-Tower668.jpg

Jennifer admires them...

Clock-Tower672.jpg

Jeniffer_1.png
They look nice...

But the dolls don't like the attention. The first one drops down, the second gets decapitated and the rest of them start twitching and moving.

Clock-Tower678.jpg
Clock-Tower682.jpg

We're getting the hell out of here. This room may be of significance in another playthrough but right now there isn't anything else of importance (I think). I say this, because many things play differently according to the order you do things and also there's a degree of randomness which translates to items appearing in different places (or not appearing at all) and rooms changing location. That's pretty awesome actually.

SO...

Why don't we check the next room down the corridor...

Clock-Tower691.jpg
Clock-Tower692.jpg

It's a library ! Hopefully we'll find some wisdom here.

Clock-Tower702.jpg

" Hold the demon idol with great care. A tree in a forest, a person in crowds, the idol is on a statue."

Aha! we'll keep that in mind. Something's on the floor...

Clock-Tower708.jpg

Hmm... what's this crack on the wall ?

Clock-Tower713.jpg

Jeniffer_1.png
There's something shiny in there.

Shiny ? Me-wants ! But Jennifer is afraid to reach into the darkness. We'll come back later. For now let's check the bathroom next door...

Clock-Tower721.jpg

I wonder what shocking revelations we'll come across this time.

Clock-Tower726.jpg

Crap ! An Evil Black Cat appeared from nowhere !

Clock-Tower730.jpg

Stay back, dark creature !
I won't succumb to your black magics and your strange linguistics !

nya.png
...

Eh, ok. She just stands on top of that box and she is merely observing us with her red eyes. Everything seems normal. NYA

Clock-Tower736.jpg

OK... Let's get back to the main corridor that connects the two wings of the Mansion. There's a door here leading into the inner garden but it's stuck.

Clock-Tower638.jpg

You know, things have been very quiet lately... what the hell is going on ? Hey, maybe it's a sign of better times. Maybe Jennifer will finally get a break. Maybe everything will be alri-

Magnificent job so far good sir.

Rather surprising how many high-quality adventure games we get LPs of.

CROOKED PATHS

Poor Ann...

Actually, from what I've seen in the internets there *is* some way to save her, but it's obvious that the game's main plot flow intended for her to die... and not just in a single way. From my experiments I've found that:

- If you don't go straight into the bathroom (where Laura is) and continue to the second hall ...

Clock-Tower1631.jpg

Clock-Tower1640.jpg

Clock-Tower1647.jpg

Clock-Tower1649.jpg

- Also, if you get out to the inner garden --where there's a pool-- early in the game (we'll see later how this can be done) , then...

Clock-Tower1578.jpg
Clock-Tower1586.jpg

Clock-Tower1595.jpg
Clock-Tower1613.jpg

Clock-Tower1616.jpg

So, yeah. RIP dear Ann.

Well, if there's any consolation there is a way to get rid of that satanic parrot. (as it has been mentioned by Drah). We can wrap him in the sheets.

Clock-Tower1681.jpg
Clock-Tower1683.jpg

AT LAST ! REVENGE IS MIIIINE ! MUAHAHHAHAAH hah ha ... eh ...

Code:
   ___ _ _ ___ _ _
  / __\_ __ ___ ___ | | __ ___ __| | / _ \__ _| |_| |__ ___
 / / | '__/ _ \ / _ \| |/ // _ \/ _` | / /_)/ _` | __| '_ \/ __|

\____/|_| \___/ \___/|_|\_\\___|\__,_| \/ \__,_|\__|_| |_|___/

No time for grieving, there's still Lotte to be saved ( I hope ). So let's keep on exploring the west wind and head upstairs. We find a study :

Clock-Tower806.jpg

While examining the paintings...

Clock-Tower810.jpg

Jeniffer_1.png
This person looks familiar...

Hmm. The fire is still going. Someone was in that room not long ago. On the desk we find a lantern and stains of blood.

Clock-Tower817.jpg

Jeniffer_3.png
There's a red blotch all over the desk.

The window is broken. Damn ! So, this was the room Ann...

Clock-Tower825.jpg

Don't think about it dear Jennifer, just move on to the next room.
It seems like a child's room.

Clock-Tower829.jpg

Great. That probably means trouble.

Clock-Tower831.jpg
Clock-Tower832.jpg

Jeniffer_1.png
It's hung from the ceiling. I feel like it's looking at me...

But what's important is that underneath the clown, we find...

Clock-Tower839.jpg

It's the "ceremony" key, whatever that means, it can't be good.

When SUDDENLY-

Clock-Tower844.jpg

Oops, the doll just fell on the ground.

Clock-Tower847.jpg

And then she got right back up...

Clock-Tower854.jpg

And then she starts floating around the room...
And guess what. She wants to play.

Clock-Tower863.jpg
Clock-Tower865.jpg

If it's games she wants, we'll give her games !
PANIC BUTTON KAMEHAMEHA !

Clock-Tower876.jpg
Clock-Tower878.jpg

Take that, you French harlot ! You know that wasn't very hard. Either possessed French dolls are fragile, or Jennifer is starting to get the hang of this haunted mansion thing.

Moving on.
Right next to the child's room we find a... slaughterhouse ? Let's open the lights...

Clock-Tower890.jpg
Clock-Tower893.jpg

Jeniffer_2.png
A corpse of a crow. There's a key in the blood.

Another key, and it's not just *one* crow here:

Clock-Tower897.jpg

Jeniffer_1.png
They've been decapitated...

Great, I smell dark magics... But what is that continuous flapping noise ? As soon as we opened the lights, it begun. Let's check the cages.

Clock-Tower900.jpg
Clock-Tower899.jpg

We can't let these poor animals suffer in the hands of maniacs. The key we found will open their cages...

Clock-Tower1260.jpg
Clock-Tower1262.jpg

The bird flies away from those small skylight windows.

Jeniffer_1.png
I hope... I find a way out of here, too.

Let's also release the rats. I was expecting them to attack or something, but they didn't. I believe releasing the animals could have some significance since we may hinder a bit the plans of whoever captured them.

Clock-Tower1270.jpg

:driiiiiiin:

Ok now. One of the keys we found can open the locked door in the second hall, upstairs. Actually, whenever we walk near that door we can hear a ringing sound. If there's a phone in there maybe we could call for help.

Clock-Tower1136.jpg

Hey, it's Ms. Mary !

Clock-Tower1142.jpg
Clock-Tower1144.jpg

Jeniffer_3.png
Ms. Mary... everyone... everyone...

mrsMary.png
Now, now... everything's going to be just fine.

Clock-Tower1152.jpg
Clock-Tower1154.jpg

mrsMary.png
You are very tense Jennifer. I can't imagine what you've been through...

Clock-Tower1157.jpg

No, stop ! Don't drink it !

Clock-Tower1161.jpg
Clock-Tower1164.jpg

Great.

We fell for the old "drug in our gingerale" trick.

But it's not over yet !

We find our heroine regaining her senses in a filthy cell... and she's not alone !

Clock-Tower1167.jpg

Jeniffer_1.png
Where am I... ?

Maybe this rugged creature knows...

Clock-Tower1172.jpg

Jeniffer_1.png

Uhn... hungry... f... food...

Jeniffer_1.png

Ok folks, I got to give props to Clock Tower. I don't remember another game where you can get eaten by a cannibal. BUT, there's a way out of it ! Remember that HAM we've got ? Maybe we should have given it to him... Let's try this again.

Clock-Tower1190.jpg

He takes it with delight...

Jeniffer_1.png
Um... who are you ?

Barr2.png
Simon... B... Barrows...

WUT ?

Clock-Tower1201.jpg

Barr2.png
Heh heh heh...

Jeniffer_1.png
!?

Barr2.png
Right now... it's... watching you.

Jeniffer_1.png
Huh ? Who are you talking about ?

Barr2.png
Watching you... cradle under the star...

Jeniffer_1.png
Cradle... under the star...?

Barr1.png
Heh heh heh... Watching you... No escape...

What the hell is he talking about ? Speak up man ! For god's sake speak u-

WHEN SUDDENLY !!

Rejoice ! Not all hope is lost !

lotte.png
Half a sec, I'll get you out...

Clock-Tower1222.jpg

Now, let's get out of here before Mary comes !

Clock-Tower1228.jpg

Lotte runs ahead... WHEN-

:GUNSHOT:

:SCREAM:

Jeniffer_2.png
LOTTE !!

Clock-Tower1233.jpg

mrsMary.png
Jennifer, don't move a muscle. I will punish you.

FUCK ! What should we do ?
Maybe we can hide in that crate !

Clock-Tower1238.jpg
Clock-Tower1242.jpg

mrsMary.png
There's no point in hiding.

Clock-Tower1246.jpg

mrsMary.png
Hiding in a place like this...

SHIT ! I think she spotted Jennifer.

:BANG!:

Clock-Tower1252.jpg

Clock-Tower1189.jpg

Dead red end and no redemption. I'm not sure if there's actually a way to save Jennifer's teenage ass from this situation, but I couldn't find one. Anyway, next time we'll do things a bit differently...

How about taking the piece of wood on the right, hiding behind the door and sneak-attacking that treacherous bitch ?

(Or using the piece of wood to break the light bulb ?)
