Lets find this Lysle Rigger!

But first we pop back into the pub to buy that stuff people forgot in Queen's Row.

i-qfRTBm2-M.png

We don't actually get like a bag where we can loot things out of...

i-CT7s2X7-M.png

We're forced to try to figure out what we got by looking at the inventory. Seems like there was a light crossbow string, some Aventurine and... a second book of Dala. The book was originally over 200 gold, so I guess this was a good deal.

i-Pd5zqKB-M.png

We head back to Darkmoor to look for Lysle Rigger. The book shop there happily pays us more than what we paid for the whole lot.

i-jBdcmM3-M.png

None of the houses in town seem to trigger anything new. But it seems we missed this barn the first time.

i-GLSH2LV-M.png

Hah, I guess Ivan had it right. Perhaps the grandma was trying to lead us astray.

i-Zw828Cw-M.png

Is that a staff or just a walking stick?

i-CPcqbk8-M.png

Are they really that identical? Maybe...

i-5XCkDKj-M.png

What are the chances this dude really is clueless? Pretty low...

i-ZNrgZ3n-M.png

A few months??? It's been like 2 days. Maybe the interlude between the acts was a lot lengthier than it seemed. And I thought James said they were fake Nighthawks?

i-dwBbwLt-M.png

Upright Man again. Maybe these two are his children or something - James was definitely raised as a mocker. Now Lysle seems like the Upright Man can order him around as well.

i-5tJzDkn-M.png

To be fair - Lysle does not look particularly Keshian.

i-823cQ2N-M.png

You of all people? Seems like Lysle knows a lot more about James than the other way around.

i-WxFKRw9-M.png

A reward sounds good. Though I wonder where Lynn is - we didn't see him on the way out of the sewers.

i-9zmBhp9-M.png

Sucks to have divided loyalties.

i-JQDSPhJ-M.png

Thieves Guild War - this is starting to sound like BG2.

i-5Z93wxS-M.png

Maybe this is why the Krondor sewers were full of large groups of rogues and rogue mages.

i-KSd2gHG-M.png

Mages are definitely dangerous for us. It doesn't matter how high your defense skill is if you get frozen in place.

i-LWNH3md-M.png

The only glory thing I know of is the glory hole...

i-2rHQF4X-M.png

What is it supposed to do? Seems like carrying around skeletal hands would be a terrible experience.

i-7F948ZR-M.png

So Glover is not involved.

i-4qHbSrh-M.png

Like you encountered a ghoul and cut off his hand?

i-FrcbXpN-M.png

Some shenanigans are going on near Sethanon. Wasn't the IRS quest involving someone trying to scare people with a corpse?

i-xwVns5X-M.png

What a unique way to acquire a rotting hand.

i-KKzWgRf-M.png

I wonder if Glover would like to purchase a bridge from us.

i-PJx5X5z-M.png

I'm confused as to how Lysle is so famous and yet James has never heard of him.

i-WvLbfnK-M.png

Seems like a quick topic... why not ask now?

i-7R6tZNP-M.png

So how would one explain all of this? Maybe half-brothers then?

i-tCCZtnr-M.png

The world before cell phones was rough. You just had to hope you'd run into a person you've never met before once again.

i-c7w4kmm-M.png

OK, we're not too far from Krondor now, so I guess lets just see if we can get that reward. Sure enough - an encountered is triggered shortly after entering the sewers.

i-j8XCckX-M.png

Don't the mockers have someone more threatening to guard the entrance?

i-b95vNd6-M.png

You should know the answer to that James...

i-bqg9qJf-M.png

Once the thieves guild is this well entrenched its pretty tough to burn it out...

i-4DktC2P-M.png

Can't say that about the job I worked at 14 years ago. I understand they've been sold twice.

i-67VXdCM-M.png

Its kinda funny how all the citizen of a city unite to face an outside foe despite their normal skirmishes with each other.

i-pHBhKdv-M.png

Seems like Mockers in power know a little something about what James and Arutha have been up to.

i-BTNRSNX-M.png

If there was a way to meet with the Mockers in power. But no - Lynn is our only way to communicate with them.

i-ST5Tqqh-M.png

Lets tell him about Lysle's adventures in Silden.

i-45SKG8D-M.png

Or not get into details...

i-8NfHGj3-M.png

And that would be from where?

i-nwDNDwb-M.png

Yes he did!

i-LxrGBfm-M.png

Strange reward for sure.

i-6R9Bhjn-M.png

What items are we asking about?

i-7v3JxBL-M.png

One would think they'd be stripped to their undies by the time the Mockers are done with them.

i-M4Vr5x9-M.png

I guess that's a different use of the word "tumbled".

i-GzKsRwW-M.png

Second opportunity to buy a loot chest coming up?

i-J7v2rcj-M.png

Hmmm, that's steep.

i-rCgKZfP-M.png

Plus if they really carried something expensive - Limm could just remain quiet about it being part of the loot.

i-2CmFRDs-M.png

Kid could make a killing as a merchant.

i-6XcHR4n-M.png

Given Codex's unanimous vote on previous loot crate - we buy this one too.

i-LdgLfD2-M.png

Yeah - it works the same way as the one from Ivan. We have to guess from our inventory.

i-8P89CqJ-M.png

But first - here's our reward. Seems like it would have a very specific use.

i-49WLNpZ-M.png

And the items. I can see whole lot of restoratives, torches and... a note?

i-7rvRnMs-M.png

The story gets more complicated by the minute... Funnily enough we have such an amulet and it did not seem unique. No idea about the Idol.

I believe the Idol of Lassur is something that comes up in a later chapter in a quest that you're about 99% likely to miss because there's no obvious reason for you to revisit the sewers at that point. That's one thing I love about this game. It really does let you choose where you want to go and you'll find a story there. Like in this chapter, if you insisted on taking the scenic route, you could have gone way up north before you turned east. They didn't put as much effort into that route, but it is an option.

This is something you wouldn't see in a game made today because they feel they can't justify wasting resources on content that most players won't see, but I always liked that feeling of freedom to choose how I want to solve a problem. I guess it's probably something that came from the tabletop roleplaying background that all of these designers had back then.

The Crawler is a rather weird part of the plot. He seems really important, but you never get to deal with him. I think that one of the books that Feist wrote later has him play a significant role.

Upright Man again. Maybe these two are his children or something - James was definitely raised as a mocker. Now Lysle seems like the Upright Man can order him around as well.

In one of the first two books, Arutha is told that Jimmy the Hand is indeed the son of the Upright Man, though he doesn't know it himself.

Yeah - the fact that this game is in the middle of the existing books made it such that the writers referenced a lot of plot points in the books without resolving them in game as - the books resolve them at a later date.

Its time to return to the road - towards Romney!

As we head up the road past Malac's Cross a cast of Eyes of Ishap finds something!

i-MpNV676-M.png

Its unusual to find a body next to a chest. Perhaps it was trapped?

i-bRhCkzh-M.png

The rations were still fresh. Must be a recent death.

i-4TQxRHK-M.png

A word lock? Maybe the dark brothers are still around. Or the Nighthawks are using word locks as well.

i-5Mt4kxC-M.png

The possibilities for this one were:

SASSU
TLILT
CREOS
AHRIE

If you're stumped the answer was:
The last letter of every word.

i-RMMfGJR-M.png

The loot was so-so. I wonder if the spade is to bury the guy next to the chest.

i-wGcqr7q-M.png

I think we've seen this before - but in case not:

i-JpSHmBp-M.png

Eventually we come to a side path that contains a barn, a house and a cemetery.

i-fH7XJ4S-M.png

Good things come to those that inspect everything.

i-wpLCmCj-M.png

Lets see if we can get similarly lucky with the house.

i-8prj5b2-M.png

That doesn't sound good.

i-FPXqX4q-M.png

Apparently the moredhel do not use the same symbolism for this.

i-dLJbVd2-M.png

How does he know someone ransacked it?

i-XDCLF82-M.png

Apparently Gorath did not learn his lesson from last chapter.

i-GPCGGDC-M.png

Sometimes its better to leave these things alone. I remember reading about an incident in Ukraine where some metal scavengers found some metal barrels in the field and decided to take them apart for scrap. Everything within 100 yards died. Apparently there was something toxic in the barrels.

i-mXhCk95-M.png

I check our guys for Plague anyway and notice good news instead - health went up.

i-42G5mm8-M.png

I assumed James would not by synchronized with everyone else as far as health level ups go - but apparently that's not the case. Still his Stamina seems a little out of whack compared to Health - you'd think Sta would be 49 instead.

i-Hxp8Bt7-M.png

Like for Owyn.

i-hp2gH7M-M.png

The side path continues to a sign. Who is this Malac? First he has a cross - now he has a dragon!

i-XJSWzZQ-M.png

A gray dragon? That is stationary enough for a road and a sign?

i-NHRQXBp-M.png

This is all very extravagant for a random statue in the wilderness.

i-hgSgq2x-M.png

We are allowed to inspect it - but doing so...

i-ZVFpGRL-M.png

Eeeeek! Well. Wait - I suppose its good that the dragon knows Owyn's name.

i-KCkK2HW-M.png

Seems like Owyn keeps most of his wits about him.

i-HnZZV3F-M.png

Was this because Owyn's a mage? Or he special in some other way?

i-V4Ss6tk-M.png

Never mind about Owyn's wits.

i-p3hfXj6-M.png

Apparently Owyn IS special!

i-BbsQfRg-M.png

Rythat and Mythar do not ring a bell. But the bit about everything dying is a bit worrisome.

i-z3cTdg2-M.png

Yes, the dragon might as well be speaking moonspeak.

i-BbqR7pT-M.png

This almost sounds like something that would come up in the sequels. Originally BaK was supposed to be a first game in a trilogy that would follow Owyn's ascendance to a prominent role. But the second game never got released and the third one did not include Owyn.

i-3FwP7NR-M.png

Either one of those is a pretty terrible burden.

i-48z78NV-M.png

Dayum... This dude has been floating around in cosmos for millennia or something.

i-zZB9n9P-M.png

This is probably the most extraordinary creature in this world. I wonder if the statue is a portal or just a way for the Oracle to pull in those that he wants to warn about something.

i-vKR4VJk-M.png

What are next weeks lottery numbers???

i-52V338p-M.png

Still sounds like a burden to me. But hey - if we've got you here - lets use this "gift".

i-bpP9zVL-M.png

Seems like Owyn's taking this pretty seriously. I suppose I would too.

i-pZB9kb9-M.png

Yeah, there's a lot resting on Gorath telling the truth.

i-9hq4j4k-M.png

So... he's lying - possibly to himself - but we can still trust him? I suppose if he becomes the leader of the Moredhel there could be a lasting peace between the kingdom and the dark brothers.

i-JmL2GJK-M.png

Time to ask about the big bad.

i-KqcVt2n-M.png

Aka - the other way to ask if Gorath is telling the truth.

i-GnjZgct-M.png

This is an unexpected twist...

i-XLC9q55-M.png

It's true. This dragon's vague allusions will not help Arutha prepare the kingdom at all.

i-FpHTJBM-M.png

Well... At least 6 magicians should be a little easier to defeat than a whole army of moredhel.

i-jPJD9Lk-M.png

That concluded our conversation with Dragon/Oracle - so we get back on the main road and notice a temple we almost missed by taking the side road.

i-GnxWp2J-M.png

Lims-Kragma is the goddess of death.

i-SC3H5QG-M.png

Its interesting how the temples are spread out in the west side of the kingdom - but there's such a clump of them down here to the south.

i-JZwVQR4-M.png

We talk to the head priestess. She sounds like a badass.

i-WgbF77D-M.png

Hmmm, once again there's something with Nighthawks...

i-kw942SJ-M.png

And Final Rest. We haven't seen such a spell for sale yet.

i-P5dD8Pd-M.png

Soon after the temple there's another chest on the side of the road.

i-tN9SK9R-M.png

I have no idea with this one. The letters are:

KLICBTR
TERTOIE
AIDECES
INOLKST

i-4PstD3D-M.png

Very soon after the chest a little bird tells us something.

i-Cvsts45-M.png

And that something isn't good.

i-hzDXF77-M.png

One the plus side - multiple characters learned the value of little birds.

i-VQxmF44-M.png

Namely Owyn.

i-MFFNNzP-M.png

And Gorath.

i-s2LZWKF-M.png

We try to sneak - but get jumped on.

i-bgffxWN-M.png

Owyn is hit for 11.
James misses.

i-7fBz3qQ-M.png

2 Nighthawks pull out crossbows and shoot. One misses and one hits his friend by accident.
Owyn charges the closest archer and hits for 4.

i-Hn9qBFZ-M.png

Gorath charges the same archer - his simple thrust hits for 32. New weapon hits hard.

i-2VR3BD4-M.png

James charges the second archer - misses.

i-h6gj5n3-M.png

Owyn defends. Seems like enemies are converging on him.
Gorath finishes the first archer with another thrust - for 34.

i-LmWV6Z5-M.png

James's thrust hits through parry! For 16.

i-wprSrFF-M.png

Unfortunately that enemy retaliates with a swing - hard - 18 damage back to him. Perhaps that enemy has an advanced weapon as well.
Gorath tries a swing at a close enemy. Hits for 42.

i-LCS3WHM-M.png

James lands a second thrust. 17.

i-7TbZ6PL-M.png

Owyn tries to finish the guy Gorath just evicerated. Hits - but 13 damage is not enough.

i-zGpQgRK-M.png

Gorath switches targets as Owyn can probably finish this enemy - hits with a thrust for 31.

i-fSHWSpk-M.png

Enemies start fleeing. James chases the further one and hits for 19 - but that guy is still up.

i-mX2SctX-M.png

The last guy fighting chases James and hits for 16.
Owyn takes the opportunity to rest.
Gorath finishes the really hurt guy with a thrust for 37.

i-Ls6gG8t-M.png

James comes back to his nemesis and lands a thrust for 17.

i-SsvG9QB-M.png

Owyn decides to show off his new spell at the fast runner.

i-G7QKnNZ-M.png

There's a lightning animation and he gets hit for 40. And... is still up!

i-Dgjs5pd-M.png

Gorath can't catch up - is forced to shoot a bolt - he hits! But the 9 damage is still somehow not enough. This enemy took 31, 40 and now 9 and is still standing.

i-3HdXVNv-M.png

Fortunately James catches up and hits. 19 damage is finally enough to put down this tank of a Nighthawk.

i-PvZBW6H-M.png

Owyn rests - thats unfortunate as the last guy starts running.
Gorath can't catch up and James is in the way of the shot.
James hits for 18.

i-3LFvQgH-M.png

Owyn blinds.
Gorath finishes the fight with a thrust for 35.

i-NqK9Gtj-M.png

James got better at hitting!

i-FkZdssF-M.png

And so did Gorath!

i-xRpVGwt-M.png

Poisoned arrows AND crossbow boosting consumable.

i-LcBLRJN-M.png

More flame root oil.

i-DGFbXSK-M.png

We loooove gold.

i-xGkbNTT-M.png

More poisoned arrows! We got lucky neither hit. Otherwise we'd be back at temple of death - getting healed from Poison!

i-jfFxchH-M.png

Here's our progress. It's tough going.

i-3BvbSFQ-M.png

Please leave suggestions for the chest and we'll see whats inside next session!

to summarize today's episode: this James fella slipped Owyn some LSD so talking dream dragons were chased, priestesses of death talked ominously but said nothing much

Lyton is next:

But first we find out what's in the chest. I wonder how the Knocker demands many answers.

i-hzvqbnt-M.png

I don't believe we have that key yet!

i-bRFjWKR-M.png

I guess Tsurani don't have much access to metal - how else to explain such focus on wood?

i-Wkt8zSq-M.png

A little further on - we find a little side path.

i-MgpCtXG-M.png

That ends in a chest. How convinient!

i-tK58jzb-M.png

The chest is unlocked and... empty? First time I've seen this.

i-jbjhN3k-M.png

As we get closer to Lyton we find an inn or a tavern. Looking forward to a good night of sleep and some gold from barding.

i-W6q4NtW-M.png

Bah! Maybe those tax collectors out of Lyton drove all the business away?

i-PJVTXpN-M.png

As we get even closer - we get within range of the road towards Sethanon.

i-qXbWtkD-M.png

So close that we can see it in the distance!

i-xtdzfCq-M.png

A few steps further and we find a house and a well.

i-vLGgxns-M.png

Hmmm, not a magician but can carve magical symbols?

i-R7nVSWK-M.png

That's kinda expensive. Staying at an inn runs less than 10 gold a night and normally tops us off or gets us close.

i-Kk2rccc-M.png

Right as we approach the Lyton entrance marker...

i-ZGZr9gX-M.png

We meet the infamous tax collectors.

i-4xg9wPJ-M.png

Ivan mentioned that the merchants found some way around these guys - so we "leave".

i-P96BRR7-M.png

Trying to sneak in through the north does not work - but going over to the east before turning towards the town...

i-phQbRdq-M.png

Works like a charm!

i-2QFSr3S-M.png

We start checking houses and barns.

i-dCfwck8-M.png

Nothing here.

i-TmQ5vk9-M.png

This house was super close to where we met the tax collectors - I half expected to run into them.

i-6MHs3rW-M.png

Aha!

i-kvxL64T-M.png

Bah, this is worth a few silvers at most.

i-rhz79R3-M.png

Lets see what farmer lives here.

i-ZX9Vw6s-M.png

Apparently one that sounds like a beast!

i-nscWrJW-M.png

More barns...

i-bGzLxpD-M.png

Huh, tax collectors. Commies. What is this place?

i-LwhnDK2-M.png

We have yet to meet anyone but the tax collectors in this town.

i-KPD5x9d-M.png

Maybe this is why... Seems like this Lord Lyton isn't just harassing those passing by.

i-PRX7nXr-M.png

Perhaps we'll have better luck here.

i-7LcW8V8-M.png

Hmmmm, seems the ladies of Lyton are not as thirsty as those of Darkmoor.

i-RBnk9mb-M.png

We kinda run with a lot of stuff nowadays - but it would be nice to sell what loot we have picked up.

i-9qMxCQ3-M.png

No such luck. All those taxes can't be good for business.

i-gQdF5wC-M.png

Hmmm, its not quite enough to pay the tax, but its nice.

i-w2jqwnj-M.png

Is this place closed too?

i-swNQdpn-M.png

No! Full of people too. Maybe I had the wrong impression of the town after all?

i-cGDrVLb-M.png

And there's quite the payout for a good song!

i-Xq49zHj-M.png

Lets see what this gentleman has to say.

i-jHb2VkQ-M.png

Hmmm, could this be Crawler's doing? Crawler sounds like something out of a Glen Cook novel by the way.

i-JFQrqp9-M.png

Max Feeber again! Seems like the IRS quest has connections with trouble in Romney. Murmandamus was the leader of the last dark elf invasion. But apparently he was a pawn of darker forces.

i-9VqNgdP-M.png

This inn is full of chatty people.

i-LgKPfhL-M.png

Or not...

i-nPvKGxW-M.png

After resting for the night we go to visit the last house in town.

i-HsXJ99T-M.png

And its empty. I think they missed an opportunity here - we could have used some interaction with Lord Lyton to try to resolve this tax collector business.

i-S79WHsN-M.png

Time to make a choice. Do we A) Continue towards Romney by the way of Silden and investigate what the Crawler is doing there?

i-PRpttQk-M.png

Or B) Go West towards Sethanon to see what in the world Max Feeber is doing. And possibly some corpse thieves if its not Feeber.

I could have sworn one of the houses around there belongs to Lord Lyton and he does send you on a quest that will make it so you don't have to pay the tax anymore. Maybe it's a little bit away from the town.

I guess I'd vote B. This quest is kind of convoluted but things will make more sense later if you do it.

To Sethanon it is!

But first - Nutria is currect - I did miss an out of the way house on the other side of the highway from all the other buildings in town.

i-RMvSwnb-M.png

And it IS occupied by Lord Lyton.

i-V8FcStQ-M.png

So... we're supposed to just get him 6 suits of armor? It's like he knows we're randomly assaulted by enemies wearing them left and right.

i-k8LgWrk-M.png

We proceed West and suddenly a fight starts! Once again I did not see them but I'm not sure that's an ambush text.

i-VDvfcgR-M.png

One Nighthawk shoots and misses.
James hits one for 17.

i-HbmJ7Dp-M.png

Gorath gets shot point blank for 5.
Owyn is forced to counter charge - hits closer archer for 4.

i-DX67p4g-M.png

Gorath misses.

i-gQKtTt6-M.png

He then gets shot for 7.
James finally gets in range of last archer - but misses.

i-J6KLSCQ-M.png

Owyn can't connect with a swing.

i-hVFnZbz-M.png

But Gorath can - 43.

i-ZQcMkMd-M.png

James catches up to a guy and gets a hit for 18 in.

i-xJpmSHg-M.png

One of the enemies is already running. Think he only got hit for 17... a little quick to run.
Owyn misses.

i-LpqH2wg-M.png

Second guy is running. Gorath kills one of the runners - think the hit was 35.

i-tqDhDL6-M.png

James gets a swing in - despite his enemy blocking - 26.

i-DJCgbv3-M.png

An enemy runs off.
Owyn isn't as lucky with his swing.

i-fCMHHzG-M.png

Gorath finishes last guy with a hit for 34.
And so we get to loot only 2 out of 3.

i-sQJkgq3-M.png

Everything Tsurani seems higher damage than basic kingdom stuff, but less accurate.

i-CGXqsZq-M.png

These elven armors sell for more, but they don't help fulfill Lord Lyton's quest.

i-3LvVpn3-M.png

We proceed some more and then there's a side road leading to a house.

i-MvS7Z49-M.png

Hmmm, more Nighthawks?

i-SHdk7Zk-M.png

We flush them out.

i-x5m3CQ9-M.png

James tries to shoot the pirate to the left - he misses.

i-C7vgv6f-M.png

It's a decent time to show off this spell.

i-nVf7sqC-M.png

76%... not sure how accurate that number is. Manual stated something about that percentage being the estimate at a certain range.

i-Q6VBHvK-M.png

It nails him! The pirate goes down after taking 60 damage. 2 pirates to both sides of him take 13 each.

i-ckvhSZZ-M.png

Gorath tries to shoot one of the slightly burned pirates but misses.

i-7JTPgXZ-M.png

James charges the archer and hits for 17.

i-dfzBg7R-M.png

Owyn rests.

We notice that Gorath finally got better at shooting.

i-vdcRGht-M.png

Gorath hits one of the approaching enemies for 32.

i-rHMdTpG-M.png

James can't get a hit in this time.
Owyn rests again.
Gorath finishes the enemy he hit before. Think the hit was for 34.

i-Dr6x2Dh-M.png

James gets hit with a swing for 24 damage.
His thrust back is a miss.

i-K3pSL8f-M.png

Owyn rests again.
Gorath one shots a pirate with a swing for 41.

i-HVjfsF8-M.png

James continues his new missing streak.

i-G9sF2Tf-M.png

Owyn helps him out by blinding the last guy.

i-Tx6pZRT-M.png

And Gorath does by getting a thrust for 36 in.

i-kNWv7GL-M.png

James and Owyn rest.
Gorath ends the fight. Think the thrust was for 38.

i-xrCjmG5-M.png

Yay, more Kingdom armor.

i-xfngMb8-M.png

Seems like enemy equipment quality went up a notch.

i-zp6MvB8-M.png

For those that don't remember - the blue thing increases weapon damage by 50% if applied to a sword before a fight.

i-mRb8HNL-M.png

And more Kingdom armor. But that brings the total to only 3.

i-9wXtHr5-M.png

Tired of full packs and this dumb quest I make a run to Malak's cross to sell good stuff from this fight and pick up the last 3 armor sets from the Nighthawks we killed on the way to Lyton.

i-Zk3hkcf-M.png

Our first Virtue key eh? Unfortunately there are no locked knickers in the game.

i-ZRVfBp6-M.png

I think the main reward is not having to go around the stupid tax collectors.

i-DFzW2fv-M.png

Hmmm, these chest answers could be useful though.

i-tCkNpDn-M.png

As we restart our way towards Sethanon we notice a dirt pile.

i-B7wpprD-M.png

Who buries food? I really don't get that part.

i-N9PJ64z-M.png

A little further on - we find a chest.

i-W84xSQC-M.png

Its unlocked and holds a pricey item. You'd think the owner would at least lock the chest...

i-x5445F4-M.png

Not too far from the ambush house - there's another farm house with a barn.

i-hswdsFn-M.png

Looks like James likes to relive his thieving days.

i-Hq6Zznk-M.png

What's this? Didn't someone say Max Feeber was dealing with some guild types our of Romney? Come to think of it - this is the same number of seals as the Pirates in the ambush house.

i-Q5C7prH-M.png

Let's have a chat with Feeber.

i-ffkS9RZ-M.png

Dangit.

i-mGsmBTW-M.png

As we get close to Sethanon we notice a series of houses. This is strange - Sethanon shows up as a dark dot on the map - meaning its supposed to be a drawn city - not a jumble of in-game houses.

i-L67TF55-M.png

First house does not offer much in game info - though the man is kind to our characters.

i-ZqKzPKt-M.png

This looks like an inn.

i-bPLTT2V-M.png

Ah, a tavern. No resting here.

i-dQ7DJLC-M.png

But we can still earn a buck with the lute.

i-785qZmQ-M.png

Lets see what this gentleman has to say.

i-R8qrVLQ-M.png

We haven't played you dude...

i-tgCdbCL-M.png

And who's this lady?

i-7X9RxBc-M.png

Usually bartenders are marked as such...

i-ScBmfGr-M.png

That tree outside is foreboding!

i-ZDPqcgM-M.png

What? But... Nia sounds familiar. Didn't the IRS quest guy mention Feeber scared Nia somehow?

i-HTzPm2N-M.png

Guess picking up ladies at the pubs works the same way in this world.

i-S86n3CR-M.png

Its kinda funny how she completely rebuffed his offer by not responding to it directly. Anyway - since when do hermits make swords?

i-824j6xd-M.png

What things started happening in her store?

i-Hs6LvHR-M.png

James does not seem to recall the results of getting that guy in Krondor completely wasted. But I suppose Nia has not introduced herself.

i-4dfKnjh-M.png

Then why did you close the store? That sword sounds like a big deal.

i-ZCXWbTX-M.png

Careful with such promises... Sometimes its hard to hold a chuckle in on demand.

i-3Bg2Wkk-M.png

Ever the businesswoman!

i-znfRhHP-M.png

Wouldn't the man follow her to the tavern if he was some stalker?

i-FtBmCNL-M.png

This conversation just went sideways - except we kinda know what's up from out alcohol poisoning of the Krondorian minister of finance.

i-XC4Vrts-M.png

James is reeling from the whiplash of the revelation.

i-32NgD62-M.png

Galon Griefmaker? Sounds like a badass sword - and James does need an upgrade to remain relevant in the fights.

i-PBN338t-M.png

Well, looks like we're going along for the James the White Knight ride - if only to get an awesome sword.

i-HCjkLZx-M.png

Her shop is next.

i-4dwSH6c-M.png

Not so strange since we just found out why.

i-Pbtr5nF-M.png

There's one last house here.

i-xKt2LxT-M.png

Hmmmm, is this in any way connected?

i-9fDTsr4-M.png

Doesn't seem like it.

i-Bf84tw8-M.png

So... the quest doesn't really give us anything to go on - her shop is just closed without any prowlers. I remember IRS guy mentioned something about Feeber scaring Nia by digging up a dead guy. So perhaps digging up a grave or two would give us a lead? Perhaps Nia's father's grave since it sounds like it might be fairly recent.

i-qTz7BsW-M.png

Other than that - we could go back to Feeber's farm in hopes he's back.

Lord Lyton's quest drove me nuts because I'm always a hoarder in games, so clearing out space for 6 sets of armor almost brought me to tears deciding what to give up to free up that space.

Luckily I used Locky's inventory as a stash and let Jimmy have at it.

Sic semper tyrannis.
The Haunting of Lycrow Shoppe is upon us!

First we find the relevant headstone. It's positively splendid!

i-DHgzXPq-M.png

Unfortunately we have to do nasty things to it.

i-mXHZvVn-M.png

Looks like James did the work himself. What ever happened to using the giant strong foreigners for manual work?

i-THrJJFm-M.png

Seems like this is the body... Now that I think about it - the haunting might actually be real - missing a body part could lead a spirit to become restless.

i-BRQ6kt7-M.png

So... James's twin mentioned selling the hand to someone named Glover is Lyton. We head that way - but decide to double check on Max Feeber's farm first.

i-hnznrWg-M.png

What the hell is that? Some kind of freaky tower shield?

i-vzs77N4-M.png

Yuck. Why would he keep this? Well this is for sure - he's the bastard that dug up poor old Jared.

i-B85H2DL-M.png

Well, he's not home again. So I head towards Lyton directly by going through the field behind the house. But luckily it turns out to be Feeber's location!

i-Ljg9twr-M.png

Guess James does not assume things.

i-qs9BWfF-M.png

He's our man.

i-GxsFhR2-M.png

Heh, James must be setting up some kind of verbal trap.

i-Q5CHp2m-M.png

I gotta give it to Feeber - that's a good response.

i-PM7QC94-M.png

Don't think he expected this follow up though!

i-VQS6BF7-M.png

Its too bad we can't see his tone and mannerisms in this reply. He could still be a cool bluffer - or perhaps he's visibly cracking and we just can't see it. It's a while before L.A. Noire comes out.

i-n5Zfgws-M.png

He could have made that a little heavier by identifying himself as a knight in the service of Prince Arutha. But I suppose our mission is secret.

i-rBVtT2r-M.png

We don't need a warrant when you left the front door unlocked :p

i-5trtW8C-M.png

Trust us Feeber - you don't want Nivek's long nose up in your shady business.

i-8JkTm64-M.png

Makes us wonder what he did to get the rest of the neighbors to sell to him...

i-6ZGkZWD-M.png

Guess James was never interested in the IRS part of this.

i-XLV9D3t-M.png

Well, we know Hershel's house is a false lead. Maybe if we never met James's twin - there's some kind of trigger there to lead us back to Lyton. I don't know.

i-G4v9zFS-M.png

Yeah, like why did you keep the shroud?

i-5dLznnv-M.png

Yeah, I'm sure that's why your barn is full of guild seals.

i-ZjKBpk2-M.png

I'm a little surprised there's no follow up on the seals in his barn. Oh well.

i-bHnzLXw-M.png

We head back to Lyton and try the tavern. There was a gentleman here that refused to speak with us before.

i-sC8CMbb-M.png

Right... So Glover is somewhere in town and but not in the tavern.

i-Jcqvh4J-M.png

We try the next house to the East and get lucky! Heh, James is acting like he doesn't know his lookalike.

i-dTsDdZZ-M.png

I'm not sure if we're supposed to get it from the well ourselves - so we simply say yes.

i-4ZCcvzt-M.png

We are now proud owners of this ghastly piece of equipment.

i-L5htz9t-M.png

We head back to the grave of Jared and dig it up again. Looks like Gorath does the work this time.

i-HWdf4Vf-M.png

Or maybe all three were working both times. We only have one shovel though.

i-npxHqZR-M.png

Time for James to grow in his White Knighthood.

i-zS2sphF-M.png

Once again - nice guys finish last. But to be fair a good sword is probably better for our collective health.

i-L6sLC88-M.png

James tips the fedora on his way out.

i-tsQB9ZB-M.png

That's a fairly unique design. There must be a reason why swords are not made this way.

i-FXQTxB4-M.png

Oh. My. God. Those stats! And elf again! Why is everything made for elves?

i-B2c8vjh-M.png

Just compare it with our current best weapon. This is quite the upgrade! Nor only is more likely to hit. But its also extra 14 damage on a thrust and 13 damage on a swing!

i-d5LqDTC-M.png

We go to check out her store.

i-RwR2W6c-M.png

Looks like a mess.

i-wQM6jLZ-M.png

Seems like a standard general store.

i-RffjFPp-M.png

Though with some alchemy.

i-npRxTx9-M.png

I learn a lesson from Lord Lyton's quest and sell bunch of 'just in case' items we've been carrying to make more space in our packs. The dog summoning horn is crazy money! We make over 1.1k overall.

i-bjxHWjc-M.png

Sethanon is close by - I head that way to check it out before returning on our way to Romney. There's a small house just off the path leading towards it.

i-RmfCwb4-M.png

Maybe this is where the constable lived.

i-ghrTL8s-M.png

As soon as we set foot on the step towards Sethanon - Gorath notices something.

i-PpZF9nF-M.png

Evil? Well with our shiny new sword I'm sure we can rearrange some evil insides.

i-FNF3p5c-M.png

The back of Gorath's neck somehow taught James and Owyn how to scout. Maybe they're going to listen to the backs of the their necks more from now on.

i-cFpP4T6-M.png

Owyn still needs to trust the back of his neck quite a bit more.

i-PXtLWdK-M.png

A step later. This is a dramatic fight intro - what did we run into?

i-4bdZPwB-M.png

What the hell is that?

i-4rTX3jp-M.png

Owyn tries to blind it.

i-FqXpccQ-M.png

Gorath inspects what we're dealing with. A shade - huh? Its strong, but not special in any other way - seems bad at hitting. Maybe it has a different type of attack?

i-rpKfgcw-M.png

James misses.

i-Mbspx2J-M.png

Owyn rests and Gorath tries to close.
James misses again. It may be bad at hitting - but its defense is alright.

i-fRCc7vs-M.png

Owyn re-blinds.

i-w4DsZHt-M.png

Gorath hits - but only 22 despite the new crazy good sword. At least it seemed the shade does not have that much stamina.

i-7f7F2Cm-M.png

James gets a hit in. Only 11. These things are difficult to injure with steel.

i-tF8LVjC-M.png

Owyn rests.
Gorath hits with a swing. Only 28. With Gorath's strength he should be hitting for like 70. This thing is resisting good 60% of the damage.

i-xw3ZL77-M.png

James misses.

i-mxcbWKQ-M.png

Owyn re-blinds.

i-nKjG5Dc-M.png

Gorath reverts to thrusting as I think the Shade is almost dead - but he misses.

i-FQ7qQQ9-M.png

Unfortunately James misses too.

i-LTHLv9w-M.png

Owyn rests.
Gorath finally hits - 25 damage is enough to finish the shade as it disappears into the ground.

i-46cGnJK-M.png

Clearly Gorath was using all his might as this fight increased his strength further.

i-MscnnQV-M.png

Next time we'll continue our approach towards Sethanon now that we've defeated this evil.

Speaking of Feistian Elves, didn't the Valheru put some Power word command into them to enslave them?

Which is why Tomas could so easily conquer Aglaranna
