The burden of defending Normandy
Theme
Another tripod attempts to break through Argentan, strangely and fortunately without any other kind of support. A battle thus happens, but it seems certain that the enemy will lose due to the well positioned anti-tank and numerical superiority of the defenders.
Meanwhile, Air superiority is sought deep within enemy territory, as an entire wing of strategic bombers is throughly annihilated, having no escorts and being outnumbered.
With all the soldiers and armors of Ghent properly evacuated, plans are traced to push them even deeper behind enemy lines, with the goal of drawing away the attention of the enemy.
Multiple Tripods are driven away from Perpignan, the Southern France front lines will soon be merged with the Iberian ones.
The struggle for Gafsa carries on, in spite of the small chances of victory. However, a new problem arises. The plans of opening a new front in the heart of Germany are interrupted, thus the fleets are ordered to run for the English Channel while the last remnants of the battlefleets prepare to make their stand.
By then, the Battle of Gafsa was already taking a near entire week. Reinforcements were coming to support the defense of this region, but would they arrive soon enough?
After weeks of struggle, Gafsa is at last secured, and thus, with this key victory in North Africa, it will now become possible to push forward all the way to Suez. The AfrikaKKKorps once again prove their worth.
In the mountains of the Pyrenees, a bloody battle begins for the town of Pau. The Tripod is a very difficult enemy to dislodge from mountains. Things were simpler in the Atlas Mountains only because of the organization losses from their long marches through horrible infrastructure conditions. Meanwhile, with great sacrifices, the chasers of the transports which evacuated Ghent are stopped. May the brave sailors never be forgotten.
In 24th of June, everything was ready to exterminate eleven enemy divisions, including several tripods, in the battle of Brest. The UDMS-KKK soldiers did not have a staggering numerical advantage, only the advantage of the brave flyboys who risked themselves to attack the dreaded tripods with thermobaric bombs.
Meanwhile, as a vulnerability was shown through recon, an attempt to break through Cholet begins by predominantly South Kwanzanian soldiers among the UDMS-KKK expeditionary forces.
However, the enemy forces, commanded by Vault Dweller, pose an unbreakable barrier, and the front stagnates while men lose their will to fight, but mindless alien war machines don't. The situation becomes much worse, but there is still a glimmer of victory.
In the southern European front, while the battle of Pau continued, the tripod division refusing to retreat in spite of suffering heavy losses, the Ultramarines secured Saint-Etienne.
In 25th of June, at 20:00 hours, the Battle of Brest was over. Brittany has been completely liberated from the alien, and now, all left to do was for the attackers to regroup to the primary front lines in Normandy. However, not all were good news. With the arrival of a large swath of reinforcements, any dreams of victory in Cholet were crushed.
While the forces involved in this attack would now be vulnerable to a counter offensive. For the burden of defending Normandy was a heavy one, against such a powerful and numberful enemy force. Scary legions marched through the ruins of Paris, and the enemy seemed to have incredibly massive numbers all through the Northern front.
Battle of Angers
As predicted, the enemy immediately attempts to crush the front lines by launching an offensive against the weakened Angers. With no better option, a flanking counter-offensive is the only way to have a chance of preventing such dreadsome legion of tripods from ruining the entire operation.
Aerial recon confirmed that the enemy advances on Cholet left Le Mans, one of the areas from where the attack against Angers happened, relatively poorly defended, thus, rather than waiting, an immediate flanking counter-offensive begins to hopefully not only break the attack against Angers, but also ideally expand the front lines towards Le Mans while they can. The situation seems favorable, for not so soon the enemy forces end completely encircled, in spite of five tripod divisions. This was still a very difficult offensive, and casualties were high, and if Angers fell, it would be for naught.
Led by Mascarenhas de Morais, one of the men who commanded the unified South Amerikwan forces defending their countries from the alien invasion that started in Buenos Aires, during a time South Amerikwa was the last hope of humanity, these men were a true proof of the truly multinational aspect of the UDMS-KKK, for among them at least five different languages were spoken and twenty nationalities existed, with, after a arguably polemic decision of the military, Latin becoming the "official language" of the UDMS-KKK military forces due to its complete neutrality in regards to modern spoken languages.
Of course, such small detail would lead to much greater ramifications in the grimdark far future, but for now, it was just a detail along many other quirks of this unique force that fought with much bravery and determination, in spite of the enemy have advanced through more than half of Angers.
Two hours later, both battles reach a stalemate, while the weaker enemy divisions begin to become completely disorganized and unable to fight. Angers is bravely defended, but unless a decisive push is achieved, they won't be able to keep firing forever because unlike the enemies, they were human beings. And thus the enemy began to push them further away from Angers, and the situation was worsening. Reinforcements were on the way, but would these brave, mostly South Kwanzanian soldiers hold the line for long enough?
Finally the first reinforcements came. Leman Russ tanks from the 1st ITZ Assault Corps, they bravely advanced under fire and struggled in the most vulnerable areas of the front during the battle. Could they make a difference? Would victory be ensured in Angers?
Meanwhile, other Leman Russ tanks advanced towards the desert of Sahara as part of a plan to completely encircle the tripod division whose attempt to break through Gafsa has failed after a long and bloody battle. The advance also continues through the North African front, and soon it shall resemble the same front during the 1940s of the Second World War from another timeline. Would there be several Tripods awaiting in Tobruk? There is no way to know before ITZ comes.
June 27, 1946. In spite of several reinforcements, the Battle of Angers continued undecided, and still had equal chances of victory or defeat for the UDMS-KKK. The outcome would decide forever the fate of Normandy. Thus, once morning comes, this could be the end, or the beginning of the road to victory.
