You people know that the Blood War is over, right ? Well, according to 4e, anyway. :)

Apparently, all it took was for the Lord of the Ninth to devour a weak-ass FR god and bamf ! he gained enough power to end the whole thing instantly.

I thought that Asmodeus simply pushed Abyss somewhere else? Anyway as I wrote gods gain power from worship in DnD and Asmodeus has a LOT of potential worshippers thus his ascension should make him impossibly powerful.

Choose your side and ally with either Tanarri or Baatezu.

Or go neutral with Yugoloths. :P

I'd buy it. Plus it would be a massive troll to make a sequel that was only combat focused.

As long as combat was like JA2.

TNO reunited with his mortality and made whole wouldnt be able to stand against more powerful demons, thats because his final act actually made him WEAKER. Now he is in domain that is not his own, without prepared components and spells, without weapons or even a mortal body. His knowledge alone wont be enough.

What evidence do you have that merging with TTO makes him weaker? Aside from becoming mortal (which is mostly a moot point since he wasn't immortal to any sufficiently strong enemy before, all that has changed is that he has regained his soul) he seems to have gained immeasurable power. Absolute (seemingly) power to raise anyone from the dead at will, maintain his own plane, teleport his allies to safety, etc. He doesn't speak in ALL CAPS for nothing. He gained a ton of power just from merging with a few of his incarnations before the final battle, his full powers from merging with TTO can only be greater still.

I think that's the delicious, morbid irony of TNO's perdicament. He's a God. He's infinitely powerful, yet he's not concerned about saving the world or righting wrongs. He just wants to die.

Such a great story.

After the merge TNO goes to hell, in a quite literal sense. He dies. Doesnt strike me as very powerful. Plane creation is merely an epic level spell (judging by 3ED and Genesis), resurrection-at-will is minor deity power and considering he had their bodies nearby its barely 6th level spell equivalent, dimension doors and other teleportation spells also are not exactly rare or powerful, all caps is what? Greater shout at best ;) Judging by his inability to change his own fate he is weaker than Lothar is. What powers did TNO gain from merging with his incarnations? Stat boosts? Greater gods have INFINITE stats (basing on the immortal handbook, dont think they were stated in 2ED). His ability to use rune of torment is a weak damaging spell.

TNO was able to defeat his mortality because it used to be a part of him but he wouldnt be able to defeat Lady of Pain. And Asmodeus is probably as powerful in his 9th circle as is Lady in Sigil.

TNO is God-like to any normal being encountered in a DnD-session. That means that an encounter with TNO and an encounter with a God is going to go the same way - wtfpwn before you knew what happened. But that doesn't mean that TNO is on the same league as the gods or greater demons. The 'all-caps-speak' and list of things he's done: in particular Ignus's description of his mage-power and his letting the demons/devils into Sigil probably puts him a fair way ahead of Lothar - the latter is some pretty epic stuff considering that no-one has managed it, and everyone is constantly trying.

But DnD mythology has a very very high heirarchy above the level of ordinary adventuring. TNO is at the top of the chain of things you'd find in the prime material plane and other common adventuring planes. But there's plenty of things out there that are more powerful, once you start including greater demons and gods. And by being so powerful, TNO would attract more attention - he's much more likely to have Demogorgon or an equivalent personally minding him, making escape a little tricky without outside help,

The Blood War was one of the eternal and iconic elements of Planescape, like the Lady of Pain ; it wasn't meant to ever end. But some D&D designers apparently enjoy raping the setting. The "Die Vecna Die" adventure made the Lady of Pain talk and give the PCs a quest, and now 4e has ended the Blood War.

Here's what Wikipedia says about it :

4th Edition's Forgotten Realms Campaign Guide states that Asmodeus killed the power Azuth and consumed his divine essence. He then proceeded to use this power to push the Abyss to the bottom of the Elemental Chaos, thus ending the Blood War with the victory of the Devils (Law). Some question this, though, saying that Asmodeus didn't win the war, but rather ran from it, since the Demons weren't destroyed or enslaved, just "pushed out of the way". Regardless, this explanation only applies to the Forgotten Realms setting; the default 4th edition books are vague as to the Blood War's status, and as a Forgotten Realms deity, Azuth was not present in these.

:mob:

Now only thing to do is to make demons return led by a new power and assrape Asmodeus by surprise. Who could achieve something like that? ;)

That's the problem with Tanar'ri... they can't be organized enough for such a thing, but if I had to choose... Graz'zt. But Abyss being in the Elemental Chaos means the only thing they can achieve... is killing some heroes.

By led I didn't really mean commanded. More like used... (Pragmatic incarnation FTW). How about landing with the abyss on Devil's hell, in consequence of your/Ravel'/FFG's (or all of them combined) machinations. The resulting rape would be glorious. :smug:

But you have to keep in mind that whatever TNO's original sin was, it was something so utterly abhorrent to the gods that every one of them damned him forever. Most every event in his past we actually hear about in game is mere peanuts compared to what he did before and what he could do again after merging with TTO. IIRC there was something mentioned about the planes themselves dieing because of what TNO did, and it's not even clarified if this is the original sin, merely a side effect of it, or completely unrelated. Just mildly fucking with any number of gods may make him enemies but just as many friends elsewhere, the only reason I can see for him to literally be beyond redemption in everyone's eyes is for the gods to have been threatened by him somehow.

Is the PST items being "transported" to BG2 world considered canon? If it's a yes, then it seems our mighty TNO either failed in his quest, or didn't get the merge with TTO ending (which means he isn't THAT powerful in the end), or he's simply a stuipd fuck who forgot to revive his friends.
