Yeah, crows and seagulls are pretty aggressive. Especially crows which can hold one hell of a grudge. Corvids are basically the bird mafia; you hurt one of them and the whole flock (or murder, rather) puts a hit on you. Australian Magpies in particular like to go for the eyes and do not fuck around.
I think there's one case of a women who's been harassed by crows for like 10 years because she found a dead crow and got too close to it, and the crows watching thought she killed it.
So crows are like jews?

With the celebrations of GOG’s 16th Anniversary, we are thrilled to announce our new initiative.
We’re launching the GOG Preservation Program – an official stamp on classic games that GOG has improved, with a commitment of our own resources to ensure their compatibility with modern systems and make them as enjoyable to play as possible.
This initiative was created to make games live forever and once again bring the utmost attention to what the center of our work has been for the last 16 years: video game preservation.
We begin with the re-release of 100 classic games from our catalog with updated, improved, or quality-tested builds, including masterpieces like Heroes of Might and Magic® 3, Resident Evil, and Diablo+Hellfire.
Visit our website dedicated to the Program to learn more: https://af.gog.com/en/gog-preservation-program?as=1649904300
One of our core missions from the very beginning was to preserve video games. For over a decade and a half, this mission has been our driving force. However, 2024 has made it clearer than ever just how vital this initiative is—and how crucial our role is in its continuation, as shown by the restoration of Alpha Protocol and the original Resident Evil trilogy.
Moreover, The Video Game History Foundation has recently shared that 87% of games created before 2010 are inaccessible today. This is something that we cannot accept, and with the help of the gaming community, we are set on getting that number down to zero.
The GOG Preservation Program is how we’ll achieve that. The GOG store identifies games that are part of the Preservation Program with a dedicated stamp. This stamp ensures that those games will run on your PC hassle-free, and you can enjoy them just as much as you did the first time you played them. These are not empty words – you can understand GOG's work on each game by looking at its Preservation Log.
Expect more and more games to join the GOG Preservation Program, both from our existing catalog and new classic additions.
We’ve made great efforts to make it happen, and we truly believe that with the Program, we can fight the dire situation of video games becoming inaccessible and keep them alive forever.
And lastly – thank you; your support and love for games make everything possible.

This is a good initiative if they are indeed going to stick with it. Messing with the games so they work on modern systems is also great and all, but I'd like them to bundle the original with no modifications along with it for people who want that too.

So that's why I received a bunch of updates for games that've been long "abandoned". Finally GOG doing something that resembles their original vision of preserving games instead of pushing crap like Galaxy.

I would pay for an opposite stamp, gog games where gog hasn't modified them in any way.
Reality is most people just want a game that works straight from the installer. Then again how many people today will actually go back and play these old games is a separate matter.

The originals without modifications are going to be appeal to a very small group of people, but considering the GOG devs literally don't need to do anything besides bundling them with the updated versions I wouldn't think it's that much of a hassle or unreasonable. Not that I'm militaristic about it, this is a great initiative without any extras.

Good stuff, but I still do not like having to pay for "remasters" and "remakes" to get access to the originals.
I already have original versions of the games I want, but new people will not get that chance.

Merida, again
You are getting the originals for free when buying those remasters or EEs. Selling an original game for less than $5 (that may or may not work) is not feasible.

These aren't remasters or remakes, just updated to run on modern hardware and software. But some people have original hardware and software they'd like to run these games on.

Great news, now I just wish they would do away with the Mac OS category and double down on Linux support instead.

I am part of what I like to call the GOG whale discord (an initative they started a while ago) and I suggested they bundle original unaltered versions with each release, but I don't think the suggestions in that discord are really going anywhere.
Most comments from fellow gamers were "it woud be too much hassle for GOG".

What pisses me off is what they did with ToEE for example, using some outdated dll from an obsolete mod that removes, among other things, the level cap in the game. This is not optional and fully ingrained in the gog release.

Ignoring the issue of pure, unaltered versions for a moment, this new initative is commendable, but I hope that don't mess up more than they fix. To be honest I'm sleeping better knowing that I have backed up all the previous versions of my games on HDD.

They are already updating (at least on the game pages) the system requirements of the affected games to Win10-11 even if previously the same pages were showing the games been compatible with Win7+.
Who knows what they are doing (or what they will do in the future) to the actual game executables?
This could be a problem for people using older systems just to play older games (especially older windows games).

They may even introduce new bugs that could even make the games incompatible with fan mods.
These days I have zero trust for GOG!

I know they do this for some games, but would be nice if they kept the old versions available for download, exactly for this reason (playing on older systems).

Why are you folks obsessed with older versions of games?. This isn't fucking Star Wars, if GOG fixes a game it's objectively better, unless they're replacing Geralt with a black man.

As far as I remember, some GOG versions are not working as good as the original games.

Sounds nice, but I've checked and it seems to be literally nothing. Like "verifying cloud saves work" or "confirming compatibility for win 10/11" for games I've played on modern gaming pc previously with no noticeable problems.

I did not notice a single update that would fix an actual classic, good old game, for which the GOG release has problems running properly or where they say it runs on modern systems, but it's a lie (Age of Wonders 2/SM, Incubation, Nox etc.).
